Starting the new year with a combination Reduced and Satisfactory build tour. This isn't just a cheeky hack to cover two videos in one, the loose topic for this video is learning to build more effectively by taking just a little more time to plan first. I know! Revolutionary concept. I almost certainly won't do it :)-CF

The Colonel Reduced and Satisfactory - January 2026

A base tour in the background of this month's Reduced, as the topic is the attempt to learn from measure once, cut once.

You say the iron forge is taking shape, but based on its outer appearance and its current state, I hope it's not the case that the Emperor is most displeased with your apparent lack of progress. Or is he asking the impossible? :-)

Good morning, Colonel. Good to see you! I, for one, enjoy your long series.

Nice reduced this month. I normally listen whilst driving to work but not this one had to wait till I was home for the visual entertainment.. would moving your live streams off onto there own YouTube channel help with the old algorithm any. I’ve heard a few YouTubers say that live streams don’t help them recently.

There's also the effect where part 32 appears suddenly somewhere in the algo and then: "this bloke has made 32 videos on this, better subscribe! "(proceeds to watch the first video in the series)

Great video Colonel - particularly your musings on design - it's an area where I also struggle so your insights are most valuable. FWIW in Satisfactory I have tended towards a "function" before "form" approach: I start with rail because stations impose such hard constraints on real estate and positioning, then roughly plan out floors - e.g. am I primarily extending vertically or horizontally? am I attempting to meld with landscape features? Only after that I do bother with the look of things. I can't say whether this is the right approach - it could quite well be because I find the appearance part the hardest and often need some element of structure in place to fully suggest an external look. You also touched on the topic of mods. I had similarly steered clear in Satisfactory due to the risks however have recently dabbled with "Curve Builder" and "Infinite Nudge". My justification is that neither introduce any new assets into the game, they merely make the positioning of existing assets so much easier. I have verified that having used said mods, I can turn off mods and my save still loads and continues to work in the vanilla game (note: need to upload save into Satisfactory Calculator to reset the "modding" flag to remove annoying warnings). As their names suggest, "Curve Builder" makes building curved structures massively easier and "Infinite Nudge" provides much finer-grain control over positioning and rotation. The following UTube explains far better than I can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rHy52Wj4sU Hope this is useful.
