Big ole caveat time - in today's topic I'm talking about art, in something of a beginners' guide to reading kinda way. If you've studied art or art history some of this will be slightly wrong, some may even (unknown to me) be staggeringly wrong - please feel free to post corrections. Equally, it's a topic designed to create thoughtful debate. To which end, your expert or rookie "reckon" is entirely valid and warranted in the (YouTube) comments .Also, some stuff about games, supermarkets, the internet and videos.-CF

I remember looking at Rothko when I studied art history about 25 years ago. What I was struck by was how I instantly liked them despite the "simplicity" - not even imagining the real thing at its impressive scale and how it envelops you. I think it made me start realising that I am emotionally reactive to colours or juxtapositions of them. Definitely generated some meaning for me even seeing them for the first time. Also yes, correct on lace making being a major Nottingham profession (Notts resident).
