When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall YouTube viewer grabs your attention, taps your favourite like button up against the screen, and he looks you crooked in the comment section and asks you if you've got the schedule ready, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Colonel always says at a time like that: "Have ya got the schedule ready, Colonel?" "Yessir, here it is."

One week of madness has now become 2 weeks of madness, with the forecast for a third week of madness looking very likely. Honestly, I'm not a fan of putting out more than one video per day, not just because of the time needed to get more videos done, more because it feels like I'm not doing individual games justice. I'm always left with the choice of A: suspending an ongoing series, B: not covering something new and interesting or C: attempting to have my cake and eat it.

I'm an option C kinda guy. I bemoaned on the Bad Company Discord earlier this week that yet another game I wanted to cover had just flung a couple of keys my way. It was pointed out that this was a nice problem to have, and indeed it is, but it's still a problem, which is why this week's schedule looks rather a lot like this:

  • Tue: Soviet Republic and Overcrowd
  • Wed: Barotrauma and Overcrowd
  • Thu: Transport Fever and Overcrowd
  • Fri: Cooking Simulator and Overcrowd
  • Sat: Soviet Republic and Overcrowd
  • Sun: Overcrowd and Kerbal Space Program (backers)

This is not a pace I can maintain, but I've been waiting for Overcrowd for a while, and having recorded the first couple already can safely say that it's a lot of fun. It already surprised me with a couple of its features, and it reminds me a lot of Project Hospital in that it has a lot to do - it is not a forgiving game. The first two episodes have been recorded at 4k resolution and the game (out Thursday) doesn't currently have UI scaling. After editing, this isn't going to be ideal, so I'll drop the resolution for other episodes.

What happened to Interstellar Transport Company? I'm still planning a slight return, along with another 2-3 games I have previously covered that have now emerged from their respective early access foundries.

And Railroad Corporation? I'm intending to do the second mission as it expands on the range of tools available to you, I'm just waiting for a moment to get it done. The same thing goes for Railway Empire, who have keenly approached me to cover their new DLC...

...and I need to take the Class 37 for a spin in Train Sim World.

I now drop in the notion of doing this full time to the conversation. I'm 2/5 of the way to my goal in terms of that being a financial possibility. Expect there to be more mention of this in the coming weeks...

I'm Colonel Failure, buy my merchandise.

Twelve videos is significantly more than the five to seven you talked about earlier today; not a complaint by any means (I have no meaningful life so I have all the time to watch them), I'd just prefer you to not expire while attempting fulfill that number of videos.

Hence it being problematic: I either miss the potential growth that comes from covering a new game, or suspend an ongoing series. Neither of these options are good, so I opt for "work harder".

I've gotten to the point where if you throw your weight behind a game I'm going to invest at least a little time into seeing if I'll like it. That happened with Soviet and Republic: Workers' Resources as well as Railroad Corporation.

As flattering as that is, exercise discretion where train games are concerned, as I'll cover *most* train titles at launch simply because it's the niche of the channel.

Absolutely. There are numerous out there and I had brought Transport Fever prior to discovering your channel. In fact, it was attempting to make Transport Fever "work" that lead me to your Metropolis series. I only say this because I presume your stakeholders read these comments. You're awful good at having fun.

I like seeing more videos. With that said, I do hope you're not over-stretching here, would hate to see you get burned out. But that's something you have to decide for yourself and I don't consider myself anywhere near wise enough to have the answers on what is the right thing to do here. That said, I do hope it pays of - 2/5th of the way to your goal is a good thing, maybe this will help get it to 3/5th ;)

I stumbled across you channel because of Transport Fever. Being an avid rail enthusiast, I bought Railroad Tycoon when it came out in 1990. However, after viewing more of your content, I found you to be very amusing no matter what game you covered. That said, though I do enjoy varied content, it is rail themed videos are what keeps me interested. I will say that what induced me to back your channel was your clean language, wit and honesty about your take on a new game (i.e. you don’t sell your integrity), in that order. Keep up doing what you like and do it as much as you can without burn out.
