Fail Brigade Minecraft is Live (Patreon)
Content
After some discussion over the last few weeks and a lot of yelling at servers Fail Brigade Minecraft is now live.
We're running a modded version of the game that should have something for everyone, but it does mean you'll need to be running the Java version of the game on PC (sorry console folks, nothing we can do there).
To get running with the team, ensure you have Java 8 installed on your PC and that you're running the appropriate version. If you find yourself crashing a lot when trying to load the mod for the first time it'll probably be because you're running 32 bit Java rather than 64 bit which can be found here: https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html
You'll then need to install either the MultiMC launcher https://multimc.org/ or Twitch launcher https://www.twitch.tv/downloads on your PC to get up and running.
After downloading the launcher you may need to increase the memory allocated to it in order to get the mods to run correctly. 4GB or more should be sufficient (if you get stuck with this, please join us in Discord https://discord.gg/46Jh7CW so the helpful members of the team can help get you up and running)
You will need to log into your Minecraft account within the launcher. Once that's done you're very nearly ready to go.
You're looking for the "FTB Presents Direwolf20 1.12" mod pack. There are several ways to grab the pack but the easiest is to download it from here : https://www.feed-the-beast.com/projects/ftb-presents-direwolf20-1-12 The version you want is the latest version for Minecraft 1.12 (indicated by the R symbol at the bottom of the page - you don't need a server pack).
Adding the pack to MultiMC is as simple as dragging the zipfile into the application window. For Twitch you may be able to search for the pack directly.
Once you've torn out most of your hair and questioned why you're going through all this effort just to play Minecraft add the following server into multiplayer:
137.74.101.181:25565
Once the server has been found, come on in!
Server Rules
For now I'm leaving the server open. Once I publish video on the subject I'll whitelist the server so only approved accounts (like yours) can enter. Stay tuned for the announcement of that so you don't get locked out.
This Minecraft server operates with the same rules as all Fail Brigade games:
1. Do not wreck other people's stuff. That includes taking things from their inventory unless they've left a supply box that is clearly signed as "help yourself".
2. PVP is turned on, but should be consentual in nature. If you and a friend want to hack away at each other you're welcome to do so. Accidental pickaxing of another player is fine (although I suggest you apologise) but do not run around the place attacking other players randomly. There may be organised PVP events later.
3. You are welcome to bring your friends or kids to the server with you. You are, however, responsible for ensuring they follow the 2 rules above.
4. Keep your language clean in text chat. Occasional swearing in the Discord chat is fine, but text chat while on the server should be suitable for everyone. Want to be Sweary McSwearyface? Do it on another server.
Specific Rules
Everyone is free to use any of the mods included in this pack until further notice. We'll only outlaw mods if they break the server. It doesn't matter which zone you decide to live in, you can use whichever mods you're like.
Zones?
We're using the classic British TV show The Crystal Maze as our theme. The world will be divided into 4 zones - Medieval, Industrial, Aztek and Future. Those zones are North, East, South and West of the original spawn point.
You can build in any or all of the zones, but please keep your constructions suited to the zone you're in. I've attached an image below with examples.
While you're setting up, obviously the classic mud or wood hut is fine, but switch to zone-appropriate materials once you get going. For Medieval, think stone and wood. Industrial, brick. Aztek, sandstone and marble. Future, metals, glass and concrete. Yes, you can use any material in any zone, but try to match the theme. Want to build a huge glass tower? Build it in Future. A castle? Medieval.
Over time individual buildings will be encompassed into towns in each zone. No idea how. Or when. But it's sure to happen.
That's it for now. If you have questions you can add them below, but again I recommend Discord for real-time advice (and you can listen in on or join the voice chat channel to get a feel for whatever tomfoolery is occurring).
