What is/are Electrosports?

The concept behind the name is an over-exaggerated sense of their own importance. This is ESPN Monster Truck coverage combined with 10x the normal number of fireworks, convoluted scoring systems, the WWE, reality shows and the volume turned up to 12.

It's a video series. Massively edited, fast paced, with every last shred of production quality I can throw at it.

It's stupid and takes itself far too seriously. It's making fun of esports while basically just making fun.

Anything competitive can be an Electrosport. Yes, it can be a digital representation of a real sport (baseball, football, skateboarding, whatever) or something utterly nonsensical with arcane rules and a means of tracking winners and losers. It can be a real sport turned on its head - the winner is the team who completes more passes. There's no hard an fast rule here. Moreover, an Electrosport doesn't actually need to be played. As part of the first season I have a racing series where no races are run, and yet there are still results... you'll see.

This is sports as storytelling, the cast of characters providing narrative and continuity. They have daft names, sometimes what they do is funny, sometimes the commentary is funny, the basic aim is that it's all just jolly likable. And slick. And bombastic. Overproduced nonsense to leave a smile on your face.

Would you like to be involved?

As time goes on the number of ways you can be involved will increase, right now however I'm looking for people who'd like to run an Electrosports event. This can take you anything from 30 minutes, done and dusted, or many months of regular updating. Your choice.

If you want to replicate the entire league, all the team roster, uniform colour schemes and logos can be found here. Small copyright note: you may reproduce the logos within an Electrosports project only, ask permission if you want to stream the logos, players and teams in the game you're running (I'll almost certainly say yes). None of the logos may be used outside this project - I have the license, you don't... It might land us both in hot water.

Then what?

Record me some footage! If you've done uniforms and names, great, if not, that's fine too. If you'd like to handle scoring of a league for the League of Fantasy, great, if not, great! The event can be absolutely anything - how far can the contestants blast someone out of a cannon in Sea of Thieves? A clay pigeon shoot featuring a tank and a motorcyclist "clay" in GTA5. It doesn't matter if the result cannot be measured, I can make it up to suit the overall story. I can turn any of these into a story. Each story may end up being 2 minutes or less in length. It might be so much fun that it ends up being a featured event, running for 5 minutes complete with scoreboards, factoids... don't worry about any of that, I'll deal with it. All I need from you are the events.

Filming guide:

1. Footage should be 1080p or 4K at 30fps or higher.

2. No commentary (if you'd like to audition to be a reporter, let me know).

3. As little HUD and UI on screen as possible - ideally none.

4. Try to keep the camera movement slow and steady - like a real camera, not like an FPS.

5. Record more than needed. If you're doing a fast event (think high jump, shot-put, that kind of thing) give me 20-30 seconds before and after the action to help with editing.

6. B-roll is very helpful! A flyover of the pitch/field/arena. A look at the competitors before they start. Too much footage can be edited down. Too little footage can be unusable.

7. I'm here to help! If you have an idea and want to talk it through, hit me up. Between us we can do something great.

Right now I have 2 team sports (baseball, soccer) from which to draw highlights, one racing series in Farming Sim to make the featured event of the week, and another racing series in Wreckfest that will turn up every week. I can handle 20 more sports with 5 at a minimum to make the series work. The same teams and players across every sport, all of which will be totalised to make up the League of Fantasy, which (if this is successful) will be spun out to many many more players. At the end of each season, every team will pick 5 players to go back into a draft pool to overhaul the lineups, and Fail Brigaders will get the chance to helm one of the teams for a season, making roster moves, deciding lineups in regular contests...

It's a whole thing.

Between Motorsport Manager and Super Mega Baseball some of the commentary I've enjoyed listening back to the most has emerged, so this is my swing for the fence to see where I can take it. It's not replacing other series, this is additive rather than a replacement.

Right, here's the link again in case you missed it before : https://www.dropbox.com/s/efo8t276rgfcc51/Electro.zip?dl=1

Open to comments, suggestions and bafflement as always.
