The creator of Lower Decks actually used to be a writer on Rick and Morty. It actually took me a few episodes to warm up to Lower Decks, but I could see it's potential from the outset, and it's just kept getting better and better!

This show is made by Star Trek fans who love all of it. Even the bad stuff, which they reference anyway. I know some fans hated (or hate) the idea of a Star Trek comedy, but there have been comedy episodes, so why not?

I resisted watching Lower Decks for the longest time. I wasn't convinced that a Trek animated comedy would be for me. I'm pretty sure I was half way through the first episode before I realized it was the most fun I'd had watching Trek for quite a long time! I had just as much fun on each episode after that. The writing is sharp and quick, the stories clever, and they clearly are steeped *deep* in Trek lore. But by far it's the characters and the acting that hooked me. It's such a fast-paced show that you often don't notice what they're doing, but after the show is over you can think back and it's clear that if they weren't bringing their A-game, the whole thing would fall flat. My heart will always be on Deep Space Nine, but Lower Decks is excellent!

They also did The Venture Bro's which is definately worth a look up. It was on adult swim, i dunno how easy it is to find in the US but in the UK you can only view it on the channel 4 app which, ugh has a pretty bad ui but does have a hige amount of channel 4 content going back decades including a mid 90's Craig Charles pirate sitcom (its not good).

Love this show, glad to be back on Patreon! There are potential spoilers in this series for the TNG movies, if I recall. Also, I know you are not planning to go past First Contact, but the events of Nemesis are somewhat important if you get to Picard.

Yeah I saw like a 2 minute clip of that show once and it was... it was bad. I like Craig Charles, but not enough to suffer through that!!

If you care about spoilers I wouldn't look up the casting lists. The four main characters of the show are Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi. I don't want to spoil anything for you but T'Lyn is a character later in the series

I am new to this show but I am enjoying it so far. It seems that they do all the "filler" plots that the new trek shows doesn't have the time to do because of their short seasons.

Paula's opening Christmas story was creepy. Liked this episode. The Rutherford story was funny but was also a cool way to show the main bridge crew personalities. Also not much mean spiritedness in this show.

T'lyn is a different character - which you haven't met yet, the Orion ensign is called Tendi. What helps me remember is subtitles, seeing the names in writing helps me remember them 😜

One of my favorite things about this show is how they go out of their way to canonize a bunch of stuff from the old animated series.

That would be cool. And if they watched the crossover Strange New Worlds episode and with Season 5 it would be 52 weeks/ year of content.
