Yep... that's the note this series is ending on... well, positivity is what I wanna spread but after that how can you?

Ben

Paula mentioned (now that you know about all the behind the scenes issues) on discord about doing another video discussing it all, just wondering if that will be happening? Don't know about anyone else, but I know I would be interested in hearing both your thoughts on it!

Alex Bennett

The omega stuff makes less sense as they changed his backstory originally he discovered time travel only to be lost in an antimatter universe and presumed dead. He turned into a baddie due to living alone for 1000’s of years.

Hardly RTD's fault if Yasmin Finney isn't available for the reshoots tbf 😂

michael moslin

Belinda was stuck in a box for half the episode and her character wasn't the same from episode 1. It felt like her life had been rewritten. Poppy was mentioned 56 times but I still couldn't give a crap about her. Anita spent the episode holding a door open for some reason whilst pregnant, prop it open and give the poor woman a chair to sit on fgs. Omega and The Rani were wasted. Why did Conrad get a happy ending? Ruby was laughed in her face by such an uncaring doctor. Ncuti regeneration I felt nothing because it really wasn't earned. Ncuti's run was bookended with Tennant and Piper, RTD's pets and quite frankly Jodie appearance was the only thing I really liked, even though it made no sense. New audiences wouldn't have a clue who Ernest Borgnine is, an actor who has died 13 years ago so why the hell he get mentioned. There was even a line from Mrs Flood from a show that ended 40 years ago, The Two Ronnies. RTD should be nowhere near the hotseat from now on, he has completely lost his mojo.

Jade Ellis

I have such a hard time rating this one. In my head I have to split it into two parts. The part right up to the scene where Poppy disappears and then the regeneration part. The reason why he was regenerating aside I really like the scene especially with Jodie appearing. But I was also left disappointed because I wanted more of Ncuti's Doctor. And Billie coming back doesn't excite me although I'm curious to what that means. I'll speculate below. The first part. Yeah I liked it for the most part. I think there is a lot going on especially with the focus on villains from classic Who and it doesn't explain things very clearly for example Omega appearing as himself but a creature distorted by the legends surrounding him .However I hate that they reinvented part of his story. If you're bringing back villains from classic (and I assume for old viewers that know of them as new viewers won't) then at least keep it consistent with the stuff we have seen. That said I like how the Rani is just dispatched easily. The scene with the coat getting smaller and Poppy disappearing is heart-breaking and I wished they had been able to leave it there. Speculation time but yeah the strong feeling is that due to not knowing when the next series would be filmed Ncuti wanted out, understandable as he is an up and coming actor and is having to turn down work due to his commitment to Doctor Who. So it's believed there was reshoots earlier this year to put in a regeneration scene. The theory I have seen is this starts when the Doctor. Ruby and Belinda exit the Tardis after Poppy disappears. This may be why the scene with Ruby pushing for people to remember Poppy feels a bit off. It's believed that the original ending would have been a big celebration party with Susan reviled to be watching from afar with Poppy who she then calls mum indicating that Poppy is the Doctor's daughter and Susan's mother tying into the scene between the Doctor and Kate in series one. So we wouldn't have had the whole Belinda as a mum part (although that would indicate that those Tardis scenes were also reshoots) It's also been discussed that we don't know if Billie is the Doctor or something else. It seems likely that she's a placeholder until the future is decided. Maybe it leaves room for Ncuti to come back (that's my hope) or to then go onto a new Doctor. As much as I was left disappointed I can give RTD a little leeway as he did get pushed into a corner although one of his own making as he left story lines open for the next series. Ultimately this is all speculation put together from different things. Would the oringinal ending been better even if it had left a problem if the series returned without Ncuti, I'm not sure. Don't know if I'd been keen on Poppy being Susan's mother but I don't like how it wrapped up Belinda's story either. and had they just ended and had to start again with a new Doctor if Ncuti wasn't available would at least allowed other media to pick up story strains such as Rogue. I think I need give some time and see how things pan out before I can really rate this.

Mark Ten

OK, the ending was heavily reshot & redited because Disney & The BBC couldnt negotiate a third & fourth season (RTD said he was already in the middle of completing the scripts so regeneration was not part of the plan). Ncuti is too big a star to lose a year from his career waiting for a possible go ahead that might not come so it appears he needed to be written out of the show early. Thats why so much of it doesnt make sense. Ncuti had often said he wouldnt leave before fighting the Daleks... didnt happen. Poppy is clearly older in some scenes and Belinda's hairstyle & eyebrows are different in the same scene in the Tardis. We saw Belinda's father in the previews but he was cut and so was Susan to make room for a regeneration that wasnt the plan! Argh! Omega is the great tragic anti-hero/villain of Classic Who. Wasted here as was The Rani. And the whole Mrs. Flood thing was a disappointment. Omega should have eaten her & left Rani Prime. And dont ask about Billie! She did this as a favor to RTD at the last minute probably as a"placeholder" because no one has been cast... and who could follow Ncuti!?!

michael moslin

The ending had nothing to do with the waste of the Rani and Omega

Paul Flux

yeah, it didn't work for me either. Overblown, poorly plotted. Omega was entirely wasted, barely differentiated from Suhtekh. The Rani reveal didn't go anywhere significant, and the obsession with Poppy came out of nowhere and disappeared again just as quickly. I'm hoping Billie isn't the next Doctor either. And I agree that Rose Noble doesn't make any sense in UNIT HQ. When she was introduced she was a schoolgirl, but apparently she's now a tech genius, despite having 'just let go' her share of the Doctor Donna power at the end of The Starbeast. I suspect that RTD has become more interested in casting actors he likes than in writing good roles that justify their casting.

Mark Ten

Well, we had a good run 2005 - 2025. never thought Id say this, but its time to put the show back on indefinite hiatus until a new showrunner can figure this who thing out. Not sure how anyone could follow Ncuti, but I have these words for the next showrunner. ... DONT plan a 4 season arc if you only have the budget for 2! ... KISS, Keep it Simple, Stupid. Lots of great ideas, poorly executed, overly complicated that went - no wheres!

Makhiel

Assuming there's even going to be next season I expect Billie Piper to stick around (as "a Doctor") for an episode or two, then being handwaved as "The Doctor wasn't fully done regenerating" and they give us the actual next Doctor. Otherwise I'm with you, seeing Anita back was great, seeing Jodie's Doctor was even better. And the rest absolutely sucked. I don't think you mentioned it but they brought back Susan back two episodes ago so I expected that they would "at long last" explain how come the Doctor can has a granddaughter but nope, not doing that.

Lintrinsic

So we went from Brazil, Stepford Wives, the Truman Show last week and got the Crimson Permanent Assurance from the Meaning of Life this week. I can't begin to describe how frustrated I am with how they left Conrad. He broke into Unit, shot someone, got broken out of prison and now he gets to be happy. As for his world being "nice" Maybe it was nice if you're an able-bodied cishet man. If not you're either vanished, un-housed, a tradwife, forced into the closet in hetero relationships or if you're single, on days when others celebrate you get to spend time in quiet contemplation because apparently you have no friends to be with. Nice work Ruby, you gave a transphobic, ableist homophobe an entirely unearned redemption arc. He's now a happy bigot who escaped justice. Omega was a waste of time, yet another Classic villain rendered as CGI for a finale. While it was funny the Rani got eaten, why the F he threw in a Two Ronnie's joke you'd only get if you were over 40 and British is anyone's guess. RTD is running out of ideas. If it goes forward it's time for new blood. Rumours abound about what the hell went wrong, but indications are all the scenes after the Doctor, Ruby, Belinda and Poppy entered the TARDIS were reshoots, likely in February. It's also rumoured Billie Piper was added in to an open ended fade out regeneration as late as after Robot Revolution aired because RTD basically shat his pants that the franchise needed a face. Who knows, it was just a clusterfrig of an episode. I'd like to think they do something interesting with Billie Piper, like make her the Valeyard and bring back 14 for a showdown. It seems suitably fan-wanky for RTD2. But it's probably going to be Bad Wolf flirting for an episode as a continuity/novelty regeneration with some half-arsed contrived peril going on. It's a shame, overall it was a strong season, but it didn't just not stick the landing, it sucked worse than Orphan 55. Any latitude I gave Wish World as being a set up episode evaporated, making the whole arc feel like a waste of time.

Karl Ward

I'm kind of heartbroken. I was 33 days old when Doctor Who was born so I've literally spent my whole life with the characters and series. I'm sad because I don't care anymore, I'm sad because I think Dr Who is FUBAR and I'm sad because I want it to fade away and not come back. I think your reactions have been so on point and these last two episodes have been such an omnishambles that I don't know how it can come back. I desperately wanted to feel again what I used to feel with Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi and Whittaker but I've had to admit to myself that it's gone and I don't want it back, at least as it is. Its a tragedy for me that the incredible stories I loved have had their memories sullied by whatever this was. And please, don't assume that I'm some kind of fossil that's stuck with outdated attitudes, I'm a huge fan of diversity, after all I also grew up with the Star Trek IDIC philosophy. The series is tired and it needs to rest, please. X

Lintrinsic

Unit has form for hiring child labour in RTD2. They had Morris last season instead of Shirley. IIRC Rose was working there last season too. Maybe they couldn't afford Catherine Tate as Donna was the one offered a job there in the Giggle.

Aaron Funnell

The weird cutaway to Belinda and Poppy in the box created by far the biggest laugh in the cinema screening for this episode.

Karl Ward

Oh yeah, and the Doctor who never uses guns, guess what? Uses a gun on whatever the heck Omega was, like the reanimated bones of Scooby Doo? The worst CGI monster since the Scorpian King, it swallowed The Rani without seemingly having a throat and spoke without a proper mouth!! And as for the lame joke "The two Ranis, well it's goodnight from me" was pathetic, referring to a show only known to a certain generation of people from the UK. I was embarrassed by this show. Sorry for ranting again but I'm so terribly disappointed because after nearly 62 years, it's over, done, finished.

Robert Carson

Some fans might know Borgnine. He worked up to his death. With movies like Red and his voice in Spongebob. Just don't throw shade at him, yes it is a line that made no sense but it isn't like if it was an actor everyone knew the line still would not have worked.

Keith Goodnight

Time to resume your journey through Classic Who. Even in its worst eras, it will never disappoint you as badly as this. And I'll put my money where my mouth is: I'd pay extra for a dedicated Classic Who Patreon tier on your channel.

Lintrinsic

To be fair, the "Doctor who never uses guns" has used a fair few guns over the years. It's more "the Doctor who doesn't like using guns but often does if the plot requires it" in the broad overview.

Troy Convers

War Games please, then straight on into the UNIT years.

Paul Flux

Yeah, I'm not sure that UNIT employing *other* children is a good excuse for this instance of child labour! I'm pretty sure that pleading that this isn't your only example of breaking employment law wouldn't be an effective defence in law!

Paul Flux

And Morris is another example of RTD giving roles to an actor he likes rather than having a meaningful role for them. That clearly came about because Ruth Madeley wasn't available to play Shirley, so they simply gave her lines to a differently disabled scientific advisor with a different wheeled transport with built-in weapons, who we've never heard from before or since.

Paul Flux

There are just too many UNIT scientific advisors kicking around with not enough plot-wise for each to do. We have Mel and Shirley (or Morris if Ruth is busy, apparently) and The Vlinx and Rose and now Susan Triad. How many characters do the script writers need in order to deliver technobabble exposition or have a bright idea when the plot needs it? Even when the Doctor is not present in person?

Paul Flux

This is a case where a less generous budget would help tighten the scripts. Because they just wouldn't be able to afford all these actors that the showrunner has taken a liking to.

Paul Flux

See also The Council Of Geeks take on this, which is intelligent, informed, and balanced.

Paul Flux

As is Who Culture TBF, but there's plenty out there that aren't.

Paul Flux

Not sure I agree with the indefinite hiatus, but definitely agree with the KISS philosophy. At this stage, a smaller budget would probably be a blessing, as it would focus on tighter scripts, smaller casts, more character driven plots, and good acting, rather than size, spectacle and SFX.

Mark J

All i can think is _______ deserved better. Ncuti was a brilliant Doctor and deserved better. Varada deserved better. Anita and Archie deserved better. The characters deserved better. The fans deserved better. SOOOO much great Doctor for it all to be kinda gaslit away.

Paul Flux

Did you really go back and count how many mentions of Poppy there were? Respect!

Paul Flux

In my case, although I really didn't like the way it ended, I'm taking a couple of positives from Ncuti's era. The highs were properly high. Episodes like 73 Yards and The Well were better than anything in Chibnall's era. And TBF I think RTD has done a good job at nurturing new writing talent. Some good stories from new writers, and again more successful than the new writers in the previous era.

michael moslin

I just found it funny how RTD changed the sonic to not look like a gun then gives him a gun.

Jonathan Giles

Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't lie. Wasn't really a fan of his 1st Season. However S2 was incredible. Absolutely Gutted. Prediction time lol. Some specials will get the greenlight for 2026. (Hopefully Christmas 2025). Then we'll get a new Doctor and series in 2027 🙏.

Jade Ellis

And to be even fairer to a bad resolution he's not actually using 'a gun'. He's basically proton streaming Omega back into the hell dimension. It's really no different a resolution then the 10th Doctor using a gun to destroy the control link and sending Gallifrey back into the time war (back into hell) in The End of Time.

Nicole Mazza

Don't blame her, though. She's only ever there as decoration. Which is so frustrating.
