WICKED CHILDREN! Posting a Blackadder reaction just as I'm supposed to be doing some work.

Jakob1978

Ah, another good episode..it’s always good to see Miriam Margolyes. Would be fun to see you react to A Bit of Fry and Laurie…they both also star in the comedy/drama “Jeeves and Wooster”, which would be a good reaction too.

Troy Convers

That one moment when Miranda Richardson played Elizabeth I seriously is just fucking mesmerising. I would LOVE to see her do this for a short play! ❤️

Matthew Hanlon

Yes, please do A Bit of Fry & Laurie.

Mark Ten

I was going to suggest A Bit of Fry & Laurie or their Jeeves & Wooster - both classics

Troy Convers

Just a perfect half hour of comedy. That is all.

Skyrous

You love Hugh Laurie? Your going to love the rest of this show.

Chris Neumann

Fry and Laurie is a favourite of mine, used to watch it to help my fall asleep since I've seen it so many times. You'll love it, though the format might make it hard to edit for YT (and as for the full-length versions, I haven't been able to sync right with your reactions for a while, I don't know if anyone else has been having that problem).

Sparky's Joint

I have the same problem. It seems like about every 30 seconds or so their stream gets ahead by a second. I just tap the space bar for a second and then do it again. it's like they are running at 1.03 speed or something.

Nolan

Probably a PAL vs NTSC issue. PAL runs at 25 frames per second, NTSC, 29.97. Depending on the release, one is converted to the other for regional distribution, because PAL is standard for the UK and NTSC for North America.

A Bit of Fry and Laurie reaction would be great. Even better though would be Jeeves and Wooster, in which their comedic genius is noticeably more developed.

Sebastian Bodine

I love that you gals have finally accepted this series' greatness! I can't wait till you get to Series 3. Please finish Series 3 before you get to the specials. I know that Britbox can get weird with where they slot specials almost arbitrarily.

Jakob1978

I’ve not had any problems watching uk versions along with it…I watch the versions available on ITVX in the uk and they sync up fine.

SnabbKassa

I have to speed up my video player by 3 or 4 % for many reactors if they are watching NTSC versions. It's quite a common issue.

SnabbKassa

Jeeves and Wooster is still pretty funny and the stories are well adapted and pretty timeless because they are set in the genteel interbellum world. But A Bit of Fry and Laurie, especially the first two series, are still going on about the Thatcher and Major governments in ways that I suspect will be baffling to the GGs. Their parody of Eastenders with Clive Mantle and Imelda Staunton is spot on, but if GGs have never seen the original, it's not going to make sense.

Hell3Quin

I went & got the box set off vinted for £4. Baffling that its not on the iplayer really

Hell3Quin

Trust me Paula after that family guy episode where they fundamentally misunderstand what a row of houses is & somehow choose to conflate one of the longest running shows in the world with britains reputation of short runs, your interpretation of an english accent can only by endearing and complimentary by comparison. Honestly "Row House"? Was your researcher pissed at you?

Hell3Quin

Yes same, its especially bad with lower decks & it doesn't help that the opening credits are different on other platforms. I do suspect as well that newer shows expecially get re-editted after launch.

clara trevlyn

Kat and Paula are professional actors, while I am not. So - caveat - they will know far better than me on this. I think Hugh Laurie's success in a drama is unsurprising. This is because I think that a performer with a background in comedy, who has mastered the art of comic timing, is very well trained to apply that skill to drama and tragedy. Look, for example, at Robin Williams' outstanding performance in The Dead Poets Society and many other non comedic roles. Also Emma Thompson, who of course began her career alongside Hugh Laurie as a comedy performer in the Cambridge University Footlights, but whose Academy Award wins and nominations are in dramatic roles. I'm sure there are many others.

Ashtara Levin

I think it's the same problem we had with Pride and Prejudice - I stream the episode through Britbox and it is synced fine.

Ashtara Levin

I watched Blackadder first, and STILL didn't recognize Hugh Laurie in House, MD... he transformed so completely for the role that my brain just didn't compute it, it was only until I saw his cameo in "Friends" (Ross's wedding episode in London) where he plays a grumpy brit that it clicked in my brain 😅

Kieran B

I think you'd enjoy Jeeves and Wooster

Was there any reason why Hugh Laurie was cast in Beer and then as a completely different character in Chains? Just seems a little odd. Like maybe the actor who was cast in Beer was suddenly unavailable?
