Lemmy's Mole

Fun fact, Stephen Fry deliberately utters a moan every time he sits down . He said he told Rowan that Melchet has horrendous Hemorrhoids, just to make Rowan laugh.

I think this episode is probably the weakest (for me) in series 4, and it’s still incredibly funny…which just goes to show how good S4 is.

We did have Paranoia from Red Dwarf in this episode

Hi, dont know where else to write this but I think all the current shows will be done by November and Blackadder in particular only has 5 and a half more things. Just wondering if there was a set plan. Anyway great stuff as always.

Ross Nolan

My favourite episode of S4. Some great laughs in this one and everyone in the cast gets a moment to shine. As I said before I think this version of Edmund is - slightly - nicer than some of his ancestors, especially the butler. He's a lot less violent (ironically given the setting) and can even be nice to Baldrick and George when he's in a good mood (compare his 'I could kiss you' to Baldrick with the Regency-era Blackadder's 'what are you doing her you revolting animal?' disdain when Baldrick rescued him from Amy Hardwood.) It's also fascinating that for someone who'd you think would be a coward he's very cool, calm and collected in a crisis.

Troy Convers

Absolutely fantastic writing and dialogue, George and Baldrick are a superb supporting double act to the long suffering Blackadder, Darling is just loving the schadenfreude. But Fry just steals the show with his over the top Melchett, closely followed by comedian Steven Frost as the Firing squad leader. An episode as polished as the Pink Panther that's been left in a trousers pocket and gone through washing machine. And it isn't even the best episode....

James O'Sullivan

This episode has the wonderful Jeremy Hardy (playing the prison guard Corporal Perkins), such a brilliant comedian. More often on radio than TV, but one of my all time favourites, gone far too soon.

Skyrous

There just isn't a bad episode in this series. Next week's is the one I re-watch the least but I'd bet money it's going to be your favorite.

He had an unforgettable singing voice

When this episode was first on my recording cut off before the end so I didn’t find out how it ended for a couple of years.

I think the first two eps lean a little too much into Blackadder being a coward but.... he is the modern day person acting as we would in this insane time. He is a career military man who has seen his world turned upside down by this war and the insanity of events going on around him. The futility of 3 years(?) of this killing with no end in sight. In some ways, he's the only sane one there.... well, at least until the 2nd half of the last ep anyway. So a realist rather than a coward and one who is now resigned to the fact that every new day could very well be his last. You've got to admire his balls (though maybe later) to be so laid back and calm with all of that going on around him.

David Shadwell

Yeah, Lee Cornes third appearence in the show; German guard, romantic poet and now firing squad member.

If I remember rightly, the court scene was a difficult one for Stephen Fry as Hugh Laurie was off camera trying to make him laugh all the time. I think Fry eventually demanded he be removed from the room so he could finish his scenes without laughing. Anyway, this is one of my favourites as it has laughs from start to finish. And a nice chance for some different faces to appear with extra cast that the first show didn't have. We get a few returning names in the next three as well.... and a long awaited turn by the magnificent Ade Edmondson.

Dropping you guys a line to congratulate you on making it to my personal favorite episode of Blackadder. The courtroom scene being the stuff that real comedy gold is made from…and you’re now only 4 episodes away from my second favorite (the BACK AND FORTH movie) with my third being the Blackadder Christmas Carol.

Chris K

I remember watching this episode for the first time and just DYING during the courtroom scene
