Sad you didn't pick "get wormed", but "get deep" works, too. 😁 Odo is an amazing character; one of the best in Trek history!

seagreenfoam

Can't wait to watch this after I get off work! 🥳

dhollanda

Love your reaction. About how many life on DS9, O'Brien will answer that in Episode 6. So, patience. :-)

Seth Walker

My favorite thing about DS9 is that it takes us out of the Starfleet bubble. We get to see our heroes have to operate in spaces outside of the main sphere of influence of the Federation. It goes a long way to expanding the Star Trek universe and adding shades of gray to what is up until this point has been a mostly black and white morality play. The Ferangi are a prime example. So much depth and nuance gets added to their race in this series that simply wasn't there in TNG. Yes they will annoy and sicken you a lot of the time but there is real growth and world building worked into our cast of Ferangi regulars through out the series. I believe DS9 season one is superior to TNG season one. DS9 has a firmer grasp of what it wants to be than TNG did but like TNG season one the characters are still in flux and they all become much stronger as the series continues. Love the reactions Kat. ❤️

Kirk Deighton

I'd forgotten about the Scooby Doo ending.

Dodgermutt

This is spot on. This show fleshes out the cultural background of what otherwise was a one dimensional Ferengi culture. Nog becomes such an amazing character over time too.

Troy Convers

Wouldn't be a bad Idea to change the verb for every season, and a few things happen much later down the line that would be good titles.

Lintrinsic

To answer your question. It varies over time, but there's around 300 regular crew as minimum and a maximum occupancy of 7000. Yes, 26 is an oddly specific number. Maybe it will come up again.

Martyn Hill

Nice to see one of my favourite characters in the show, Nog, start to get some air time

Alexander Caldwell

I always thought the 26 hour day was based on Bajor's hourly cycle; it's a Bajoran station, so they would naturally use the same cycle as their home planet. Though, why they are using Earth-based hours is odd, but maybe that's a compromise they made with having a Starfleet presence.

Bruce Bromley

Kat, that's what I haven't heard in a while. Vibing with your fave outfits from DS9. No doubt Voyager will have it's fair share of looks to add to your closet.

monkeyman

I assumed bajor had a 24 hour day the extra 2 was for the station position in the solar system. For the star fleet people they always use military 24 hour clock in my own head cannon that how they keep a standard time throughout the fleet

Lintrinsic

No, it's because Bajor has a 26 hour day. The station operates on Bajoran time. And so much for me trying to be subtle with my comment in case it's a spoiler.

Troy Convers

A nice solid A plot that puts a bit more skin on the Odo frame, and a B plot that gives Keiko a purpose and *might/might not* lead anywhere (delete as applicable). Oh, we world building. 🛠️

Quark and Odo kiss? Maybe not. But make Star Trek gay? TNG gave us one sort of about that. DS9, well, maybe a little gay? Stay tuned. But unquestionably, Discovery and Lower Decks take us there decades later. And I found it interesting, that while I admit I may struggle from time to time with being as completely progressive and tolerant as I should be, some of my favorite characters on Discovery are a gay couple. And that show is... not my favorite Star Trek, I'll say.

Joe Concepts

I hadn't rewatched this one for years before ANOTHER reaction channel started watching DS9, but I thought Dax's line in here deserved to get a lot more attention over the years: "Learn to be comfortable with your discomfort." What a great, but realistic message about tolerance. You don't have freedom from discomfort. Just deal with it.

LonghillAndy

A certain audience I just came from to watch this episode? 😂

Makhiel

I like that Bashir just casually grew a whole-ass person in his lab and nobody is concerned about like, ethical implications. :) (This technology will of course not be used ever again, probably)

Robert Ulus

Ah, the classic locked-room mystery! 'Killing your own clone so there's no extra DNA evidence' was never something Hercule Poirot ever had to deal with... I would suggest paying attention to Rom, Nog's father. His character is going to change a *lot* over the course of the show. Some of it is character development, but at least in this first episode, I think they hadn't figured out what to do with him yet.

Lizbeth Marcs

The thing that everyone misses is we have an African-American actor in a fictional scenario where he's protecting someone else from a lynching. It certainly struck me the first time I even saw the episode. I have no idea why the original broadcast order had this episode as the third episode. It's certainly weaker than "Past Prologue" (which you saw last week). The Scooby-Doo goofy ending of "Man Alone" does not help. I think the change in order hurt Bashir's character more than anyone else's. In the original order, you had him being a putz in the third episode, and he gets a little redemption thanks to Garak in the fourth. It's so fun going back to see the "baby pictures" of these characters. Tony Award-winning actor Rene Auberjonois (RIP) clearly hasn't gotten Odo's voice down quite yet (in this episode he keeps going back-and-forth between his own speaking voice and Odo's more growly voice). Plus, Odo's make-up is still ROUGH (thankfully it improves). And ROM! I forgot how different Rom was in these early appearances. Different voice. Different way of walking. Practically a different character! (I count Rom and Nog as among my faves.) No spoilers, but how it all ends and where all the characters end up is going to absolutely stun you. And yet at the end you're going to think it all makes complete sense that everyone landed where they land.

TuneIntoSanityFM

Agreed, this episode really shows how the Federation may be taking care of politics upstairs, but the exploration (and danger) is often in the habitation ring. A very wild west feel to this one.

Firefly24601

Kat is not a man alone. He is a man with lots of people watching him!!

JXTN

Same, I thought it would be dermal regeneration or surgery or something, which is usually how they do it in Trek. But nope, it was old man Withers! Would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling officers!

Travis Boyle

Gene Roddenberry did want a gay couple on TNG. He had David Gerrold (Trouble With Tribbles writer on TOS) to write the script. The other producers were against it and it wasn't made. David Gerrold left TNG over it. Gerrold later adapted the script for the Star Trek New Voyages youtube series. It's called Blood and Fire.

Richard Finch

Quark rents those holosuites by the hour and he’s pretty clear that they’re available for more than massages. This distinguishes the “darker and grittier” DS9 from TNG, where the holodeck is only used to pretend to be Sherlock Holmes or Dixon Hill. Well, unless you’re Barclay.

tal goren

I kind of wonder what Ibudan told his clone about his plan. I am assuming he didn't know he was meant to be murdered.

Peter41

"Killing your own clone is still murder." Makes Riker and Pulaski look up in horror.

Hell3Quin

39 minutes yeh, Rom was only supposed to be in this episode as a throwaway. So glad they kept him.

Jon Combs

The thing that irks me about this episode- they set up a locked room murder mystery and never explain the locked room. "He murdered his clone!" Ok, great. How did he get out of the holosuite? They specifically said door didn't open other than to let the victim in (presumably with the murderer) and then again when the body was found, and no one transported in or out. It wasn't just that Odo may have had motive, it was also that he was the only one who could get out without opening the door. Oops, guess they forgot that part :P

Nico

Nope if you rewatch, its explained 16min in that the killer walked in at same time, then the killer left 13min later with ibudan dead. door opened twice before starfleet starting investiagting

Ben Chan

You are not alone -- I know it's not like having Paula beside you, but we're in this together and from where I sit, your natural reactions are just right! (when I got my broadcast license in college, on my first solo test broadcast I turned on the mic and realized I literally had nothing to say. That wasn't good.) Your solo DS9 reactions thus far are more than enough - just be you.

Carrie Schwent

So here is the limerick for the episode, it was inspired by Dr Bashier. What is this thing I'm growing in my lab? It's a copy of the man on my slab Ibudan learned how to clone For that, he'll have to atone To set up Odo, "himself" he did stab
