The noir-esque overtones of Cowboy Bebop really took a front seat in these past two episodes, even with the addition of the science-fiction element added in this one. Hoping the next episode takes us back to the goofiness for a bit. Although I own this entire series on DVD, there are episodes that I feel as though I have never seen - this one especially gives me that vibe. As such, although I expect I will recognize episodes as they show up, so far which one shows up next remains as much a surprise for me as it does Kat. Looking forward to the next episode and the eventual reveal of that fourth mysterious character. Until then...keep it boppin' Gallifreyans.

I do feel a bit iffy about them naming him Jet Black though.

This episode was okay, but always seemed odd on rewatches, like it was from a different show. Feels like them caring about this guy was kinda hand-waved as to why, the reasons for the kid being immortal are effectively magic (not physically aging I get, but why does he mentally age then, and why does he heal from explosions and holes in the head? Would he heal if blown to little bits by Spike's plane?) and they barely even tried to explain it. They frame it like he's this ancient being too detached by time for morality when he's like..60? Why was the end framed like a serious duel that was important to Spike? Spike met this kid once, and no personal connections or parallels were drawn to try give it any weight. Faye did nothing but steal food and complain this ep, haha. Feel like they should have given her a stronger episode more soon after joining the crew to establish her in the team. Kudos to the gals for actually having sympathy for him though. I didn't, his experiences don't narratively support his degree of moral nihilism, imo.

I thought the shot-out driver's side window was a tip off

"no personal connections or parallels?" Considering the flashback we saw at the beginning of the episode, I'd say there's a parallel. (although Spike might not be cognizant ... or he might, since the flashback wasn't just a flashback, it was Spike's dream) Spike's finger gun at the harmonica is telling as well, though it's up to interpretation.

My favorite part about art is that it's up for interpretation and owes no explanation. Plus "if you're wondering how they eat and breathe and other science facts..."
