About to watch this but I will say I normally skip this and the next episode... Alexander Siddig made an acting choice in this episode. Well he made that choice and the director let him make that choice. I guess that's something...

Data Cable

But we don't know exactly what that choice was, because the producers didn't like it, so they had Sid dub all his Vantica lines in post.

Nolan

Oh dear lord, I PROMISE Siddig's acting is not usually this bad. Last minute studio notes and ADR sessions, make the last act of this Pain.

Jon Combs

To be fair, he was trying to copy a character's voice that only had one raspy line, he didn't have a lot to work with

Dodgermutt

Wow, considering how poorly that went I can't imagine what it was like before...

Seth Walker

Like the previous people noted... Siddig, well, he certainly gave some kind of performance... he definitely improves over time. This might be on the level of a couple of Shatner's over the top performances from TOS. Still I really enjoy this episode. Lol

Lintrinsic

This episode - I've no idea what the hell happened with Siddig's performance here, because I've seen him do so much better. This is probably in the bottom 2 episodes of the entire show to me. The worst of this season (yes, including that one.) Bashir was a big factor in my not making the effort to watch season 2 when DS9 first aired. He grew on me eventually with subsequent watch throughs and ultimately I became very fond of him, but holy crap, he's irritating early on.

Mark Ten

All Bashir needed was a handlebar mustache to twirl and an evil laugh. Siddig does get to show his acting chops later in the series, but this was pretty... meh!

xeve

the Ferengi as a society in general and Qark in particular (even Nog) will push your bottons, some may find both grow enough by the end, others won't.

Troy Convers

Vulcan synaptic pattern displacement = Kal Tor Pan, aka The Refusioning we see in Search for Spock. At least our man Bahir emerged shaken, but not stirred.

Ben Chan

Based on his facial muscles, I somehow imagine it sounded like Cumberbatch's Khan voice.

Ben Chan

Are you sure they've seen that movie? (the delete button's right there)

Dodgermutt

He should have went with Idris Elba's Khan... Or wait are you talking Cumberbatch's Shere Khan or Khan Noonien Singh?

Ben Chan

1 - You know you've watched a ton of Trek when the *first* thing you think of when seeing the title, "Passenger" is that it's someone highjacking someone else's brain and your second thought is that it's a passenger on a ship! 2 - Trek writers know at this point the way to make a character sympathetic is to have a random new character display some kind of prejudice towards them. I love how Sisko immediately stood up for Odo, (I like the nickname "constable" - too bad Odo doesn't) and I appreciate that the Federation guy (I'm also horrible with names) wasn't just a jerk for jerk's sake. 3 - I love how you're into Odo and Quark as besties. That whole conversation about Quark/Jadzia (yes, it's gross how Quark and Bashir constantly pine after her - and it's based solely on appearance as neither actually know her at all) might as well be about Odo and Quark. Odo doesn't have to be at the bar to keep an eye on Quark, but he looooves harrassing him.

Travis Boyle

Pretty meh episode. Usually skip this one in rewatches. Pretty much just watched this for Kat. ☺️

rocketdave

Durg hadn't been on the show before, but the reason that character looked familiar is because his species has been seen in previous episodes. It's a funny coincidence that yesterday, when this reaction came out, I happened to catch the underrated sci-fi movie The Hidden, which is about an alien criminal who takes over other people's bodies, so the premise is not dissimilar (though The Hidden is much more fun to watch than "The Passenger," IMHO).

Locoturbo

There was some kind of thing where he did a voice, then redid it, or couldn't redo it, I can't remember. But either way the result was not good

Firefly24601

So interesting to watch these episodes I know I've seen before but don't remember. I wonder what I thought of these episodes back when they aired. Because the ones I remember sometimes hit different now.

Robert Ulus

Vantika heard about living rent free in your enemy's head and decided he could work with that!

Carrie Schwent

Completely unrelated to the episode, but the spoon you were using was really interesting! Very spacey!

Rudydemon

If I remember correctly, he originally wanted to do like a Bela Lugosi Dracula voice wasn't it haha. Something super silly like that.

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

A nice premise with some really piss-poor execution. I know full well that Siddig El-Fadil (now Alexander Siddig) is a *MUCH* better actor than whatever he was trying to do with his Vantika persona. Jusssttt .... speeeeaaking..... sllllooooowlyyyyy.... iiiiss ..... notttttt.... impresssssiiiiive

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

But the actor who played him (Christopher Collins) was in TNG. Twice. He was Catpain Kargan of the Klingon ship Riker had been transferred to. He was also the Pakled Captain Grebnedlog who managed to kidnap Geordi and force him to make weapons for them. As a voice actor, he was known as Chris Latta, who most famously gave voice to characters like Starscream on Transformers and Cobra Commander on G.I. Joe
