Edward is such a funny, quirky and beloved character! I had forgotten we don't meet them until this far into the series!

Mark Ten

Peter Lore was a great Hungarian actor with a distinctive accent (often parodied but never equaled) , with breakout roles in the classic "M", Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, Arsenic & Old Lace. He often played a villain but could play comedy as well. Lore's distinctive features and Jewish heritage marked him in Nazi Germany. He played a child killer in the classic "M" and Nazi propaganda used his image from that film as the "typical evil looking Jew". Ironically, Propaganda Minister for the Third Reich Josef Goebbels was a fan and secretly warned Lore to leave Germany before Hitler put him in a concentration camp.

I legitimately didn't remember how late in the series we actually meet Edward and she joins the crew. Edward is my favourite character of crew - Spike and Jet are their own flavours of cool and Faye is walking femme fatale fanservice...but Edward is just FUN. Looking forward to seeing how the show goes forward. As a note, I've had the entire series on DVD for *years*, but I've never watched the whole thing all the way through and my memories of the show are mostly fragmented and out of order as a result of mostly watching reruns of the show on Adult Swim years ago. So...a lot of this is almost as new to me as it is to Kat. I did not expect to fall in love the show all over again in an entirely different way. Entirely aside from anything else, I did not remember Spike being such a grumpy twat about the various additions to the Bebop crew. Typical emo edge-lord behavior from our Bruce Lee expy. LOL ...see you next time, Gallifreyans!

The character of Edward is supposedly based off of Yoko Kanno and her personality. 😁

This episode has my favorite song from the soundtrack "Car 24." It's the song playing when Edward is remote controlling the Bebop, I think. (haven't watched it with you guys yet) When I played it for my mom back in the day, R.I.P, she said, "Now THAT'S bebop." The album has a mix of jazz styles and western music, but that one, specifically, is in the bebop style. Just finished it and yes, that is the song Car 24 when Ed was piloting Bebop. Oh, and Ed made a copy of MPU and sent it to the cops, but downloaded the original to be with them on the Bebop.

Kat: "I love, it I love it, I love it. It's immediately up their as one of my favourite animes", And its about to get even better 😄

The quotes from director Shinichirō Watanabe about Ed are amazing "like a cat out of control" "Its gender is meaningless, we don't need it." "I wanted to create a character that surpasses humanity."

Faye's exclamation, "Hey you're a girl!" And Ed laughing was not originally here in the original run. It's been taken from a later episode where Faye kisses a very tired Ed thinking they're a boy to get them to give her some info. As you can surmise its a problomatic scene so its been cut down and the line moved, easy to do as it was always off screen. Speaking of, this is the 2nd time Jet has mentioned Fayes past which we havent gotten to yet. So I think some scripts and even finished scenes got moved around prior to release. Thinking of it, the scenes with Ed in that later episode arent directly to do with with that plotline so could easily have been moved around & revoiced. It is wild how late we get Ed though. The internets favourite pixy girl. Even though they are totally enb.

The ending with MPU is a bit ambiguous. MPU is never brough up again unfortunately, so there's no way to know. They made a copy of MPU and kept that so he/it would be "safe", and surrendered the original, I think? The authorities already knew about the satellite at the end, so handing in the copy wouldn't keep the original safe. I find it hard to believe Ed would trick MPU into being destroyed, so I think Ed was genuine. Ed getting fried could be interpereted as the MPU transfer failing, but I think Ed wouldn't be as happy in the end if that was true. Some think MPU got uploaded to Ed's brain by the zap, but Ed's wierd enough already. So I think it's safe to assume Ed has some version of MPU on drive. My personal headcanon is that she uploaded it to the Bebop, and MPU now runs the ship. :) Love Ed, but does anyone else feel like she sometimes seems from a different show? Not quite aligned with the moody noire at times. I always wondered whether Watanabe had to fulfill some studio mandate to add something kids would like, so wacky character + dog (Ein). Luckily, we ended up with something everyone likes. :) Oh, and if we're talking about the movie; Like you said, there's plenty of time to make a decision on when to watch it. I personally recommend right before episode 24 "Hard Luck Woman", but maybe throw up a poll when we get to episode 20 or so?
