It's not *my* fault, honest!

Paul Flux

Why does everyone try to blame me when things are changing.... 😉

Troy Convers

Haven't watched Early Years Voyager for probably over a decade, and it's great to see how layered it actually is; we've got some spicy little B-plots a-bubblin, and some unintentional foreshadowing.... And Seska is a great character.; Martha Hackett missed out on playing Dax and was in a deleted scene from 'All Good Things'. Glad she got her flowers in the end.

Troy Convers

Could be worse; you could be another name for controversy....😅

Seth Walker

Voyager has such a good first season. Arguably the best first season of any of the classic Trek shows. Martha Hacket is absolutely fantastic as Seska. Her snap of a finger heel turn from faux innocent to snarling Cardasian agent is magnificent to behold. There really arent any weak links in this show at this point besides Neelix. Absolutely unlikable character. Nothing against Ethan Phillips who does the best with what he's given. Just a bad character as written.

SierraNicole

I was about to like this til I saw the Neelix hate. Can’t relate on that one. 😅

Makhiel

With neither of you knowing Seska was the traitor this was great to watch. :)

Paula: "I cant not sing to a beautiful opening theme", Never sang along to the Enterprise opening theme 👍 I gotcha.

Hell3Quin

Paula kinda did, she accidentally dropped that plot point in front of Kat by yelling, "But you're a spy!" I think last episode.

He's better than we remember but this terrible chef material is a problem throughout. I also think its worth remembering that Voyager benefits from lessons learned on the 1st 2 seasons of DS9, which is something the showmakers doubled down on after inventing the show purely to pre-empt warner bros Babalon 5 which had been green lit before. J. Michael Straczynski (yes I did have to just look that look up) was furious that WB didn't sue them for this. Hell the only reason we got series arc's & the Dom War at all is because of the ratings war the 2 studios were waging against each other.

Locoturbo

This episode makes it even more fun to rewatch Seska in Prime Factors. By the way... shouldn't Chakotay have immediately alerted the entire away team not to bite into those deadly apples, just in case...

Hell3Quin

No, I'm not doing this, nope 🙂‍↔️

I forgot that Seska got outed this early in the run. For some bizarre reason I thought that happened in season two. Martha Hacket did a really good job and she did manage to get on all three of the Star Trek shows in this era. It's a pity she never managed to get beyond day player in her career because I think she's legit talented.

Firefly24601

I think Paula meant that more generally Seska was faking getting along with the VOY crew so when the Maquis finally took over she'd have all the intel. I don't think Paula knew that Seska was a Cardassian sent to spy on the Maquis.

Firefly24601

Martha Hackett does SUCH a good job as Seska! She really got to flex her skills in this episode.

Lintrinsic

I think part of the Neelix hate is that they clearly intended and expected him to be the breakout character. But it felt really forced and manufactured so there was a backlash. I find Neelix irritating, but I think overall he's not as bad as people make him out to be. But most of that is thanks to Ethan Phillips performance whenever they give him more to work with than comic relief schtick. Similar to Lwaxana Troi only he's regular cast.

Lintrinsic

I remember being really stunned by this Seska reveal. This episode does a fantastic job of keeping you guessing down to the wire. Martha Hackett is a frequently overlooked bright point when people discuss actors who've played multiple roles in Star Trek (along with Suzie Plakson) The heel turn when her Cardassian pride and cadence finally gets released is absolutely pitch perfect. This may not be amongst my favourites, I'm not sentimental enough about it for that, but this is a truly great episode.

Lintrinsic

It's obvious from this reaction she had no idea and was probably talking about her being Maquis and not quite picking the right word.

Data Cable

Voyager's first season is short because, just as DS9 did, it started mid-season. Then it was farther shortened by holding back 4 eps originally planned and produced for the first season until the second. If you look closely, you can spot which 4, because they changed the font used for screen credits between seasons. (Hint: One of them is the season 2 premiere, originally planned to be the season 1 finale.)

Travis Boyle

I think Neelix gets some much needed fleshing out in a later episode of season 1.

LonghillAndy

37 minutes Zordon mentioned 😂

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

It should have happened in season 2. It would have been much more of a gut-punch if we had gotten to know her a little better or had her be this show's Chief O'Brien for a while before being outed as a spy

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

The way Martha Hackett was able to change her whole face when she dropped the pretense of being Bajoran was masterful. All civility and kindness just melted away and the viciousness of an Obsidian Order operative started shining through
