I really see no difference in Spikes eyes.

Mark Ten

The color difference is hard to see. Ive seen it in only a couple of shots. His right eye is artificial after a syndicate accident, while his left is natural. I think in the original Japanese its hinted here that the eyes sometimes may not be seeing the same things.

Ben Chan

Another great reaction -- See you, Space Comrades...!

Sebastian Bodine

One eye is a darker shade of brown when they do the close-ups but I don't know if they consistently do it throughout the show. I think it's more of a "when they remember to put that detail in" kind of thing.

I think part of the implied backstory here, is that Gren and Vicious had been fighting together for some time and grown closer, before the scorpion incident we saw. I wonder if Vicious turned on him with giving the transmitter specifically for that reason, to destroy an emotional connection that his nihilistic ethos saw as a weakness or threat. That it was an attack on that part of himself, as much as Gren. I also wonder, if this war took place after Spike's leaving, and he feared that closeness again after feelng betrayed by Spike. Making Spike the initiator of the event's leading to Gren's downfall. Would make Spike's prescence at their confrontation and Gren's end, much more symbolic and ironic. Anyway, off to read too much into something else.
