Ah, what a treat this was. Love watching you react to these. I’m pretty sure Hattie was just making a joke about Chris bringing in his own dress for Quarantine. Can’t wait to see your reaction to the series 7 one. There is a making of documentary about the US version…you don’t have to watch the US versions before watching it if you don’t want to. It’s very interesting to see what happened.

Sadly, the planned Red Dwarf film for UKTV has been shelved in the middle of writing. The outline of the script may be turned into a book.

Funny That

This was uncomfortable on rewatch a few years ago as I was suspicious there was maybe more to the story, but I was just being a bit paranoid. It is doubtful any training would have covered VFX at all, and there was no prior experience. (Though Juliet's CV before and after Red Dwarf is worth checking out, many of the shows are big in the UK and some infamous...)

The reasoning seems nonsensical as well, comedy isn't successful but red dwarf is so they're shelving red dwarf?!

The story I heard was that UKTV decided against commissioning any new comedy series, even though Red Dwarf was already in development & a script 2/3 done. Although UKTV had made a profit on Red Dwarf in the past, it appears that no new RD or any comedy project will be green light. Sad!

Paul Jackson was the shouty producer and Ed Bye was the director but wasn't particularly shouty.

Yeah its a shame for Juliet but a mixed picture. She didn't seem to be fully qualified for the role but also the production team weren't able to support her in particular for special effects.

Chris Barrie with the veiled reference to the 1993 UK Christmas Number One haver, Mr Blobby. I had no idea they had issues with the director. Her episodes are among the best Red Dwarf ever done.

What a freaking amazing thing to be able to watch on Christmas Eve :) This was fantastic. I love how worried everyone was about series 5 and how AMAZING this series was. Some of my favourite episodes. Merry Palmas!

Thank you so much for this! What says Christmas more than Chris in gingham along with a "very cross" Mr. Fribble? With the long form watch alongs its easy for us to get out of synch with the Pals. Even with the timer on screen (which is often different depending on the source) it would be helpful to get a few seconds in the middle or at your hour mark where the show isnt blurred out just to make it a little easier to synch up again. Wishing you both a happy holiday where Waxdroid Santa doesnt get melted.

You absolutely should watch either the Red Dwarf USA pilots or the Dwarfin' USA making of (the latter is probably more entertaining, to be honest). In one of the two US pilots, the cat is played by Terry Farrell aka Dax from DS9!

You guys should react to can't smeg won't Smeg and the first 3 million years documary maybe if you are looking for more red dwarf content. Along with the other making of series that are quite interesting
