Amazing how people are all 'enough with the jealousy storyline' when RDM revisited the idea in BSG and everyone lapped it up. Voyager wrapping interpersonal conflict up in a neat bow is why these early seasons plod a bit.

Glad this awful story is over but unfortunate that they had to spend a whole episode on it. One of the worst of the season, in my opinion.

I didn't mind this episode, at least there was some growth. The Harry alt reality was still the worst of the more recent episodes to me.

I think up to this point Nelix has been the most unlikeable character because he has had one note, beligerant jealousy. Tom has been a pretty vapid character as well.

"Planet Hell" was the behind-the-scenes term for some of those planet sets. Crazy to hear the characters say not only that but also "technobabble" in the episode.

So not one of the comments (myself included) addresses the "how long in space" question, bc well dunno & don't care. Now the shuttle question... that's for the spoilers thread. and infinite. Also... no comment on Kes' cute new outfit?

The Doctor's line of "you're only 2 years old, there may be a few things you don't know to look for in a man" is gross and ick and totally written by an older man. Shame, I was enjoying this episode until that.

Yeh, and thats still a line some 50ish guy would write in the 90's expecting someone in their 20's to be their sugerbaby.

It's a line easily fixed by the Doctor adding "which makes you a 20-something in Human terms". It's that easy, and Trek writers are always making comparisons to get a point over.

That's fine and you are certainly entitled to your perspective on it. I however don't see it that way because 1.) The Doctor is even younger than Kes, and not even a humanoid so it's questionable how much he even TRULY fathoms what he's talking about here (which means maybe he shouldn't be giving relationship advice since we know he was primarily only programmed with medical knowledge, but that's a whole 'nother topic) - so, I can blame the character to an extent, 2.) I just don't put a lot of faith in the Voyager writers especially this early on. To me it's not a gendered or aged issue but unfortunately just a general lower quality of writing. I looked up the writer (he was 45 at the time and I have to assume it was Tom Szollosi and that the others just helped revise) and it seems he also wrote The Cloud. For whatever that's worth. The Doctor was actually written pretty well back in that one? And I felt it really developed the characters well. Tom's holodeck program, though, had a lot of crap / chauvinism in the characters, and while Be'lanna did lash out about that, that didn't really balance it out and I can definitely see a theme there...

One year real time = one year for them on the show unless other wise stated. so at the start of season 2, they'd been in the delta quadrant for a year
