I heard it was supposed to be Ariana Greenblatt as Ed. That end song is very Bowie isn't it?

Mark Plemmons

Okay, I haven't watched the reaction yet, but I've seen saving this comment for a while. 😅 My preference for watching the movie last is partly because I think 'life is a dream' hits better in the movie after you've watched the series, and also because I can head-canon that Spike survived and the crew reunited. So, take that for what it's worth at this late date. Either way, so happy Kat got to experience this amazing show!

Nolan

The movie ends with "Are you living in the real world?" And Spike seeing one of the dream butterflys floating past his vision. One could read that as the movie being his dying mind holding on to what those last good times and going on one last adventure, one last dream before death takes him... though personally I like narrative order, but I sure love ambiguity in pop culture productions. I think it keeps shows like this and BSG alive and open to endless rewatches, as each new run-through brings new ideas, reads and interpretations to your mind.

1 - When I first watched this, I spent the whole end credits song in denial, thinking of ways Spike survived. And then that star blinked out😭 2 - I had advocated for watching the film after the series, but I totally get it -- watching it anytime soon wouldn't work, because you're still grieving. We had time to live with it before seeing the movie. 3 - Julia's death scene with the birds made me think of John Woo movies first (he loves him some slo-mo doves) and Blade Runner second. (birds as death/soul ascending has been done a ton to be sure) 4 - The Netflix show had its moments, but I agree with Paula that the biggest ball they dropped was Julia/Vicious. I don't know if anyone could enjoy that even if they had never seen the anime. I will give them the benefit of the doubt they tried their best, but it was closer to Sin City than Cowboy Bebop. The best thing about it imo was the actor they cast for Jet - he was spot on. John Cho was okay as Spike, but for me, he was too old for the role. Youthful nihilism hits differently than a guy in his 40s. And Paula should be happy she missed the end of the season where they introduced Ed. What we saw wasn't good. (but then who knows what the actor might've done with it had they gotten a season 2)

Nolan

I feel SO bad for Ed's actor. Big breakout role, new actor, and you get 10 seconds before it all fizzles out.

Good call on spotting the similarities between this and Blade Runner. You saying that made it totally click for me.

Did y'all happen to go back and realize the end of Ep13 (Jupiter Jazz p2) ended the same way as this ep? (after Gren's death, the shaman and the pan up to the stars as the credits rolled)
