Like I've said before, this is the sort of episode I want to see in this series, the Connecticut Starship in King Delta Quadrant's Court. We've got Janeway out on a limb, desperately trying to hold onto Federation ideals, there's Seska pulling strings on both sides and now there's a mole on board acting as a random element. And even a touch of Kazon lore mining to bring a bit of depth to an admittedly one dimensional race, helped enormously by the great Anthony de Longis as Mage Cullah. S3 is gonna be a hot one.

One of the best setups & ideas, leading to one of the worst endings! Chakotay's speech and argument were powerful, but were apparently discarded by the end. It hurts.

1 - Neelix is such a better character when he's doing stuff like this rather than when he's in the kitchen or with Kes. (I know he can't do it all the time so he needs another function, just saying he really shines in this type of role) 2 - Yeah, you're not going to hire Raphael Sbarge to be a one-off incidental character. I liked his introduction where he wasn't the main one mouthing off and displaying discontent, but the show let us know his thoughts are similar before his heel-turn. 3 - While I'm glad to see Chakotay fulfill his narrative function as former Maquis come up in a thought-provoking way, (along with Seska's old Maquis buddies on the ship) yeah -- the "lesson" at the end was less than satisfactory - as though the unfortunate results rendered the concept invalid. Finding an unexpected but effectual middle-ground would have been better, imo. (like maybe if one of the Kazon Maje's attended the conference genuinely wanting peace then reached out to Janeway at the end or something) Either that or the show could have had us question that Janeway's speech. (which I don't believe it does)

This episode was emblematic of why colonizers refuse to let go of power.

Maybe the idea gets revisited.
