This episode is as underrated as the previous one is notorious. The fucking GOAT Brad Dourif is made for this part. Or was it the other way round? It's similar to The X-Files episode 'Beyond the Sea' (also with Dourif), but that doesn't matter one iota; both Dourif and Tim Russ's intensity crackle in every scene they share. And by grod, Tuvok's warped personality is just chilling; that scene in sickbay is fantastic. Props to Cliff Bole, who always nails the subject of whatever episode he directs. An S-Tier episode, and the start of a run of bangers.

There's a Canadian chain called London Drugs that sells a bunch of international cookies, they have Tim Tams. And Jaffa Cakes.

Timtams at my local grocery store in deep northern canada, I'm pretty sure they are quite common up here.

Jack Mingle

Up here in Canada I can find TimTams on my local grocery store which is not that big at all. Very common and very delicious, don't give me a package or I'll eat it in a day.

To clarify, full Betazoids are typically fully telepathic. Troi was only an empath because she was half Betazoid. Also interesting how Neelix brought up an old Vulcan holiday where they got naked that they no longer observe and Betazoids are known for having naked weddings. A contrast between Vulcan suppression and Betazoid embracing of emotion.

This is easily a top 5 Voyager episode… not just for the season but the entire series. Did anyone feel a little satisfaction seeing Neelix get choked out? I mean, just a little…?

While not as long of arcs nor as many arcs as DS9, Voyager does have multi episode arcs. Deadwood show is great; though while I liked the movie, I did feel "you can't go home again" underneath as well. You've probably seen Deadman Walking, but if you haven't it's a very good movie without being preachy one way or the other (from what I remember). As I've mentioned before Tuvok and Kess stories were more often than not what kept me engaged the 1st 2 seasons. For me this episode was also about "but for the grace of God go I", for both Tuvok and Wormtongue. It's one thing to think or imagine a thing, it's another to live it, both found that out.

Trader Joe's puffed peanut (and corn) snacks are called "Bamba" -- I like the ones with the hazelut creme filling.

Aren't they both, ie Empath and Telepath aren't mutually exclusive qualities.

Troy Convers

Tim Tams are just an inferior version of the mighty Penguin bar here in the UK. 💪

Troy Convers

Oh, and avoid anything Cadbury; in recent years they've reduced the cocoa content drastically to the point it's now 'chocolate flavour'. They replaced it with palm oil (vomit) and it now tastes awful.

Artic Bars>Polar Bars>Penguin bars>Tim Tams

I thought this was a very strong episode. The silliness of the gambling plot with Harry and Tom only makes it more strange that they cut out any actual scene of the mind meld between Russ and Dourif. Maybe they just needed an excuse to show the other actors in ANY kind of plot, but the episode would've been even better if they'd just focused on the main A-plot.

Very appropriate to have an LotR shirt when we have an episode about Grima Wormtongue. A quote from the woman who defied Grima, as well as killing the Witch King.

Karl Ward

Famous quote.... "Why do we kill people who are killing people to show that killing people is wrong?"
