Remember everyone, this was filmed--- oh wait, the first one had gone live by the time this was recorded. Nevermind!!! 😆

Here's a hot fact: Did you know that Craig Ferguson and Peter Capaldi were in a band together called "The Dreamboys", back in their youth. I quote "When the rest of the guys were at Emerson or Harvard, I was taking acid in the back of a van with the guy who ended up playing the Doctor. He and I were in a band called The Dreamboys together… We were originally called The Bastards from Hell. [The name change] was a slightly different move in direction.". Could you do the Smeg Ups (bloopers) at the end of each series too pls? those are always fun! and similar to the show they get better as they go on.

Jonathan Aves

Confidence is played by Craig Ferguson, for anyone American yes HIM.

Up till then the stereotypical image of astronauts & space explorers were brave, polished & White. Red Dwarf set out to break all the stereotypes and make the last human being in existence... well... Dave Lister.

These last two episodes are probably my favorite of the first series (that's season, for us Yanks). It really kind of shows the lengths to which Rimmer will be petty just to keep Lister down...but whether it's to build himself up or just out of some sense of sadism is kind of hard to read this early in the show's full run. We'll actually get a taste of how Lister has in the past reversed that dynamic before the events of the show in the second series. What's important to know now is that part of how these two actually kept and continue to keep sane is finding inventive ways of annoying the smeg out of each other. Anyway, loving that you're enjoying the show and can't wait to continue on this journey with the Gallifrey Gals! (still think the tag line should be "Gallifrey Gals get smegged") Until next time, I wish you both, as always, a... Good Journey!

I believe Bing Baxter is a broadcast safe version of a character that Craig Ferguson had in his early stand-up career. Ferguson's character was named "Bing Hitler" by none other than Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor.

Looking forward to Thursday’s as Red Dwarf day now. Glad you’re both enjoying it

Mark Stevens

Another great reaction by the Gallifrey Gals. You're both amazing

I'm completely new here, had never heard of the gals before a week ago but signed up immediately off the back of one cut down Red Dwarf vid on YouTube and will most definitely be going back and bingeing my way through all the Who stuff. New obsession unlocked.

I don't know if you know him, but Confidence was played by comedian and former host of the Late Late Show in the US, Craig Ferguson. Despite the accent he used in this episode, he's Scottish (though he spent a lot of time with relatives in New York) and a massive Doctor Who fan. On his desk on the Late Late Show, he always had a little mini TARDIS. And when he was a teenager, he was in a band with Peter Capaldi.

If I even get the slightest food stain on my clothes I absolutely have to change as soon as I'm done eating or it drives me nuts! One day at work I got a big mustard stain on my pants because when I asked for extra, extra mustard on my turkey sub the nice folks at the sandwich shop obliged. When I bit into it a big old blob of it glopped out the other end and landed right on the crotch of my jeans. I made an excuse to leave work and went home to change. It figures that the likely last human being in existance is a totally gross slob. But Lister's still awesome!

You hadn’t heard The Indling Song! You have now.

I just stumbled upon a thirty minute stand up by Craig Ferguson as Bing Hitler. Pretty funny and fairly tame since it aired on BBC Scotland in 1987, a little less than a year from appearing on this episode. https://youtu.be/-m4wkYWEK4c

Chris Neumann

It's catchy, but it's no Om. Ommm......

The writers thought that they had invented a fictional swear word with 'smeg', unaware of its rather obscure real-world usage in the pre Internet age. Sci-fi has a long history of fictional swear words, BSGs 'frack' and 'felgercarb' date back to the campy 1970s original of my childhood. I also remember the Judge Dredd comic strips giving us 'drokk', 'stumm', and 'grud' from around the same time, and the novels of Larry Niven using 'tanj' - There Ain't No Justice. And not forgetting Firefly's 'Gorram'!

Brodie Vickers

People who listened to that formed self help groups😂

Hey Kat and Paula: Here's a shortie that you may be interested in. 'Red Dwarf - Theme, Filmová filharmonie' is an orchestral-choral version which was played in a SF themed concert. Watch for the French Horn player at bottom left at 0.19 seconds in. - To see the French Horn player and the percussionist's response, there are two videos of the same concert - which was in Prague in 2022 - and this is the video taken from above in the 'Gods'.

BriefMortal

Craig Fergusson as Confidence seems appropriate.

Travis Boyle

Paula's reaction to Confidence blowing up was great. Lol

Darryl Glynn

OMG, that was great. I've just listened to it now

Darryl Glynn

This is me, patiently waiting for the next exciting episode of [...DUN DUN DUUUNNNN!...] Gallifrey Gals watches Red Dwarf!

Geoff Peterson - The Robot Skeleton - to Confidence or Craigy Ferg: "Heeey! Wanna join me in Heaven? . . . I got a little place there!" Craig Ferguson: "Whaddaya talkin' about, Geoff? That was a special effect! I'm still alive an' kickin' Geddadahere!" Geoff Peterson: " . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Darn!"
