The question about would you have spotted the theme tune thing if it wasn't pointed out is a good one. There are secrets "hidden" in plain sight (for want of a better metaphor) in the various musical pieces in this show that many people didn't figure out for 25 years. Season 3 brings the big one for me.

The picture was from Kochanski's quarters, thus, her present, but Lister's past. But Lister didn't know about the picture because his present hadn't caught up to Kochanski's past yet. "What is it?" Lol. This episode get's really strange once Series 6 hits.

I always find it interesting to consider the characterisations of Future Lister and Future Rimmer in Stasis Leak. Our Lister is friendly to almost everyone, even his worst enemy (such as helping Rimmer celebrate his Death Day). He is respectful and honest (such as his interactions with Captain Hollister), patient (his attempts to explain things to The Cat), and empathetic (his immediate kindness to the Cat Priest, whose existence he had only just become aware of). By contrast, Future Lister is rude, arrogant, very condescending, impatient and so very unlike him. He even seems to like the finer things, hanging around in his bathrobe with wine in an immaculate luxury hotel suite – such a contrast to the genuine nice but scruffy space bum that we know and love. Future Rimmer is also different. He’s ditched the uniform – and perhaps the mindset of a technician – finally escaping the binding of his identity to his career. He dons a smoking jacket and a pipe. Again, seemingly a man who likes the finer things - and lives for luxury. Both seem to have access to a very controlled form of Time Travel – with Future Lister and Kochanski appearing on Red Dwarf immediately to see Past Rimmer go crazy – it’s unlikely that they ran out of their honeymoon suite to get a shuttle immediately following Present Lister and Cat, so surely their mechanism of Time Travel helped with their apperance. It’s also interesting that – despite them both seemingly able to time-travel to wherever they please – Future Lister and Future Rimmer are still accompanying each other. It’s an easy one to over-think I suppose. When I first saw the episode, I did wonder what could happen to change our Lister and Rimmer into Future Lister and Future Rimmer.

Welcome to Red Dwarf continuity, where facts change but the spirit more or less stays the same. British Shows only last for 3-4 seasons at most, because there's no secondary market for them like syndication, etc. So I feel like this episode was calling their shots ahead of time in case they couldn't doa proper finale. But when they discovered the show had legs, this had to be retconned and basically forgotten. So while The Future Echoes predictions come true (you'll find out), this one doesn't and it'll drive you crazy trying to justify why. And I think the reason season 2 gets a bad rap because the episodes are more formless, Better Than Life being another good example They just don't fit a proper structure or lead up to a clear endgoal. Trivia time: the lost suitcase is voiced by the guide from Better Than Life.

Tony Hawks was the warm up comedian for the audience when filming season 1. He made a bet with Rob and Doug, that if he got more laughs doing the warm up than they did during filming, then he would get to appear on screen in season 2. He voiced the vending machines in season one and was given the part of the guide in Better Than Life. He will also appear in season 3 and 4 in different roles. Fun Fact: Tony Hawks appeared on an edition of Celebrity Mastermind (a UK quiz show where contestants answer questions on a specialised subject of their choosing) for charity. He chose as his specialist subject Tony Hawk, the skateboarder. Apparently our Tony keeps getting emails from people around the world asking him questions about skateboarding as they are confusing him with the Skateboarding Tony. PS: Shameless plug for one of Tony Hawks books. Read 'Playing the Moldovans at Tennis', his epic challenge to play the entire Moldovan National Football Team at tennis and beat them all. Funny, scary and moving all in one. It's brilliant.

In British Military slang - my mother was in the ATS - that would be called Jankers. Mum was placed on that for being late on parade. She ran to catch up, but was spotted by an eagle-eyed office. She was put onto scrubbing walls and mopping floors. A colonel passed her by and said, "Enjoying your Jankers, Private Green?" I suspect the writers of Red Dwarf were probably referencing Jankers by putting Lister on outside the ship maintenance.

I just watched Stasis Leak. The Date in the bath room has Wednesday 2 March 2077 08.33. The official Calendar for 2077 will be that the 2 Mar 2077 will be a Tuesday.
