Tongue Tied! Reached number 17 in UK charts and there's a different music video on Youtube!

Jasper de Vries

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Rob and Doug were writing this episode and discussing "ok, so we're going to hold up a mirror to this male chauvinist behaviour - how far should we go?"

Salix

Came here to say the same thing 🤣

paul

This was always one of my favourite episodes back in the day when they first aired. Nice to see this one has "aged well".

Rob G

I loved that reaction it was everything I was hoping for and more! I said a while back that the writers were very self aware of the characters they were writing, they had the genius idea of mirroring them with counterparts of the opposite sex and they really pulled it off. Jokes can date pretty badly with old shows at times but this episode didnt. As a note you dont need to tell us guys not to do XYZ lol. The kind of people who love Red Dwarf arent sexually harassing women, so no need for the PSA stuff but I get it if you feel strongly about certain things. Lastly I think Kat did the perfect mirror image of Rimmers mesmer stare, she nailed it!

MCT

Dance moves choreographed by Queeg 500.

Susan K Dailey Photography

I've always loved this episode... but if you think what happened in this episode is weird, just wait for what's to come! Danny is a fantastic dancer, he was also a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing a few years back and some of his routines are on youtube.

Aidan Lunn

I would say that there is a corner of sci-fi fandom in general that attracts the kind of bitter, socially awkward arsehole that blames others (particularly women but there are others) for their own failings in life. The trope of a 44 year-old unkempt Star Trek fan still living in his mum’s basement didn’t come out of nowhere.

Rob G

Next up is Backwards!

Daniel Stimson

I don't know if you're aware or have already watched, but at the start of the next episode there is a Star Wars like super-fast text crawl which explains a few changes in the show before the episode starts. It might be a good idea to read it before watching the next episode.

ButtyOh

Fun facts, tongue tied was written by Grant and Naylor (the show runners) in 1983 for bbc radio 4, about a lovestruck singer who gets more and more unintelligible as the song progresses 5 years later, in 88 as they were getting red dwarf up and running they brought the song back. Redid the lyrics It was choreographed by Charles Augins (Queeg from last episode) and Danny John Jules actually did the vocals himself

Rob G

It is true that some sci fi fans are incredibly socially awkward, especially when young, its the whole nerd thing knowing they are unattractive to the opposite sex, they play board games and roll dice. Thankfully a lot of these geeks meet other girl geeks and things turn out ok. The same happens on the opposite end, girls who are not especially attractive and know they are unattractive to the opposite sex, they still end up with being with someone. Then there are the incels and the femcels. These are men who blame women for everything and women who blame men for everything. Both exist which is a shame. I do not think anyone watching the Gallifrey Gals are anywhere near being an incel and vice versa. And thats why I said what I said. We are all reacting to them because we want to be here, who gives a shit about some idiot 44 year old in a basement anyway?

Chris Bordeman

Your genes and your genes, that's just a clone, ladies. No genetic diseases.

Dr Q Who

I reckon it would be more fun for GGs to watch it the same way many of us saw it as we didn't have any foreknowledge of the scrolling back in 1989, plus it was the show's intention to "smeg" our minds up in confusion as we went in with S3 E1. Reading the scrolls slowly beforehand would effectively be spoilers for first time viewers.

Raven Stromdans

Watching Kat and Paula get so into Tongue-Tied and deeply appreciating the gender-behavior satire of this episode truly gave me life I didn't know was missing. I genuinely didn't expect you guys to love this episode so much - the ending joke was great, but I always felt the satire in the episode was a bit overly blunt. That said, I was seeing it from a very cis-het male perspective; I should have guessed that femme-presenting people might be absolutely see truth in the humor here and so deeply appreciate the role reversal on display. Absolutely chomping at the bit to continue this journey with y'all into Series III, which has some of the most iconic episodes of the show's entire run! Remember to Stay Calm and Smeg On, Gallifrey Gals!

Raven Stromdans

I actually thought the same about Kat doing the Mesmer Stare. It was positively astonishing how fast and accurate their imitation was!

Darryl Glynn

OMG, I never knew the full unedited song was at the end! And I had it on VHS, too!

Blower

That's right suckers!

Darryl Glynn

OI, KATRINA! WHERE ARE YOU???? Sorry, just a bit of Kat calling. :D

Paflad

How many shows from the '80s joked about these themes and would come out smelling of roses viewed through today's lens? Grant and Naylor low key (as the kids say) did something kind of special here.

HoratioMcSherry

I remember watching this the first time round and I’ve had the ‘Digestive system, baby’ and ‘Reproductive system, baby’ earworms stuck in my head for 35 years. 😄

Jade Ellis

Tongue-tied was actually released as a single 5 years later and reached number 17 in the UK charts. Can't wait for the next episode.

Skyrous

Charles Augins the guy who played Queeg in the previous episode also choregraphed the "Tongue Tied" video.

Stephen Wray

Female Lister was played by Craig Charles' partner

Josef Schiltz

I suspect that actors may have particularly good mirror neurons. Lol!

Josef Schiltz

Firefly24601

It wasn't. The full version was tacked onto the end of the video they reacted to.

Josef Schiltz

She has also appeared in Blake's Seven as a regular and a guest appearance in Doctor Who. I thought I recognized her. Like Holly, it may take a bit of time, but I get there in the end.

Logan Bruin

From the moment I saw you guys were doing Red Dwarf I've been waiting for this episode. At the high school talent show we did Tongue Tied, where I played Lister. The soprano crotch grab was a big hit.

paul

I like how series 2 is bookended by these two episodes about the boys meeting women. In the first episode, they're all excited and it turns out to be a big let down. In this one, they have no idea what they're getting into and they get way more than they bargained for! I think they were lucky to find such great actors to play the female Rimmer and Lister. I'm guessing they would have had a female Cat too but couldn't find anyone good enough to play the part. Poor Cat, even the skutters got female counterparts!

Aidan Lunn

FINAL REMINDER!! At the start of the next episode, there is a Star Wars-like scroll explaining how the plot of this episode links in to the next (it explains some unseen action). And after watching it, watch any of the clips online of the reversed bits played forward as there is a gold-standard joke in it that can only be understood with it played forwards as it’s in a part that’s reversed!

Josef Schiltz

Paul Flux

Are you sure about that? Angela Bruce played Deb Lister, Cathy Tyson was Craig Charles's first wife.

Susan K Dailey Photography

You're confusing this with a future episode. Craig was still married to his first wife when this episode was filmed.

tal goren

I think they realized that if they have brought a female cat, there was no way Cat wouldn't have gotten himself pregnent, and they were already doing that plot with Lister.

Mab7373822

I think they shouldn't watch any slowed down text and just watch S3E1 like it originally broadcast, so that they fully experience the same effect it had on the original viewers. After watching it, by all means go back and watch the text in slow mo. Regardless, whatever the gals choose to so, they've got some amazing episodes coming up!

Aidan Lunn

It would just save a bit of time to watch the scroll at the start and answer a load of questions they would otherwise ask, then they don’t have to go back.

Travis Boyle

Funny reaction to Tongue Tied. Another great thing for you about Red Dwarf is how much content there is for reaction videos. All the documentaries about each series are great. You can also get two videos out of Red Dwarf USA episode and the documentary about the US version. Though I don't know if you want to go through the pain of the USA version. Lol.

Jesse Sharp

You Gals are awesome. I was feeling nostalgic for my childhood las month and randomly searched for "Red Dwarf Reactions" on youtube. I saw you had started putting content out for series 1, but I didn't want to get invested until I knew for sure you were committed to hanging around until the show gets good (series 2 is when it gets good, series 3 is when it got great). Just yesterday I started watching your series 2 reactions and now I'm a $10 subscriber. Looking forward to going back to check out the full season 1 episode reactions and all of the other special feature reactions from each series!!

You wot? Looks like someone went to Uni. 🤣

paul

Ah yes, good point! And I guess Cat already stole the episode with the opening song!

Josef Schiltz

Holly: "Well! . . . . Wasn't that all a surprise! Caught me on the hop anyway!" Hilly: "Yeah! . . . . .Who would've thought it?" Toaster: "I did! . . . Bozos!!"

Kieran B

Mine too, still love the rest though, especially 3 and 5

Rob G

I think the Gals maybe at least a series ahead of us by now, maybe two. They also record as first time viewers and never pause in any episode. The chance of them seeing the scroll to series three blast past them is 100% imo.

Funnily enough Tongued Tied was released as a single almost 30 years to the day you uploaded this - that was 30th October 1993

Blower

oh oh oh so you have skipped ahead and are on polymorph! - hehe, i know ya a couple of episodes ahead.

Chris Neumann

You have to figure that the Medicomp is also able to screen for that kind of thing.

Chris Bordeman

Hope they learned something more useful.

Travis Boyle

I enjoy them all as well. Even ones a lot of people cr@p on.

Sissy Debbie

When I got the email and saw it was series 3 episode 3 I thought I had missed a couple of episodes. 😂

John Veitch

I'm sure they saw "Backwards" and "Marooned" before "Polymorph", they just haven't uploaded them yet.

Time Lord

Hiiiii If you received an email about a Red Dwarf reaction going live, it is a lie! Well, sort of. Patreon's new online interface has changed a lot and while trying to schedule a post it instead decided to post it now. It should be taken care of and not be accessible (sorry, gotta wait to get there 😜 )

Darryl Glynn

Dang it! Y'awl had me so cited, I had to change my dog darn drawers. I coulda had another week's wear outa them, too.

Josef Schiltz

Kryten: "I'm sorry, ladies. I pressed the wrong button on the ServuMatic! I will endeavour better service in the future!" - Switching to high pitched whining mode - I'm grovelling! I'm grovelling! Can't you see I'm grovelling?"

Daniel Graham

Your Polymorph episode is broken... page not found

Time Lord

The reaction was mistakenly published because Patreon's new interface was being buggy. Polymorph will be released next week on regular schedule ☺️

paul

It is kinda bonkers the way they started the episode with tongue tied (which i love!) normally sitcoms either start with the theme somg or they do a cold open leading into the credits.. I can't think of an example of any other show ever where they start an episode in this fashion, by jusy swapping out the theme tune for a one off pop song - love it! 😆

paul

Holly's 'think I'm in there!" never gets old 😂

Krissie

not just female harassment but also remember that half the cast is black which was also a big deal back then
