I never thought the diamonds were particularly evil. They didn't care about organic life but humans don't care too much about other life either, we kill for food and clothes, to build cities, streets, factories, for medicine, cosmetics etc.. Even people who try not to kill directly or indirectly by being vegan and taking care of the environment can only do so much. Vegetables are usually grown on large fields or in massive greenhouses that destroy large parts of the environment, turning it into mono cultures at best and buildings at worst. "I only buy organic food" is a lie we tell ourselves to make us feel better but the reality is that no one exclusively buys organic food it is impossible to feed the population using only organic food and even organic food still has to be grown somewhere and it's not plucked from random bushes in natural forests. And if all of that happens on our own planet, how can be blame the diamonds for not caring about life on earth? They destroy biomes for their own benefits but so do we. They also crushed a gem rebellion, shattering and corrupting many but again, so do we! What happens to rebels who take up arms against their own governments and start a civil war?

This was the first LBGTQ wedding in the history of children's television. So they made some very specific choices. In some of the less progressive parts of the world Ruby was often portrayed as a boy. They'd even cast a male voice actor for the language translation. So they put deliberately had Ruby in her wedding dress to make the point. Also they combined the episode with the big Diamond fight everyone was waiting for so they couldn't skip over the episode.

Blue and Yellow are interesting characters. I think they bear responsibility for the war crimes they committed, the oppression of their fellow Gems and their disregard for non-Gem sentient life (something that the show seems to gloss over). They also have very little empathy, even for a fellow Diamond, like Pink. Blue is deeply concerned with Pink’s wellbeing, but in the way one cares for the wellbeing of a small child or pet and not an equal. Although Yellow suppresses any emotion that would betray vulnerability, she also seemed more consumed with the pain Pink’s assumed shattering caused her and Blue than any suffering Pink herself experienced. They see Pink through the lens of whatever happiness and companionship she brought them, rather than as an individual with her own feelings, thoughts and desires. Of course, the show doesn’t treat the Diamonds as two-dimensional characters and does a good job illustrating how they’ve been victims of emotional abuse themselves. Yellow hides her pain and tries to project an air of authority and control, while Blue wallows in sadness and misery (which was primarily sparked by Pink’s death, but exacerbated by her emotional isolation and her own lack of control over the situation). Are/Were they evil? Yes, because they willfully caused or were complicit in the unnecessary suffering of both Gem and human life, suffering that they usually had the power to stop or at least mitigate. Do they see themselves as evil? No, but no one’s the villain in their own story.

Ah, the complex relationship we neurodivergents have with our phones. I think an unsolicited video call isn’t something that I would ever welcome, because there’s a lot more pressure to mask and be “on” when someone can both see and hear you. I leave the bell on my phone off 24/7/365 and only turn it on if I’m expecting a critically important call or text. If someone texts me, I respond when I care to (and have the spoons to), and when someone calls, I’ll pick up if I notice the phone is ringing and it’s someone I want or need to talk to (again, assuming I have the spoons). I also turn the notifications on most apps (including messaging and social-media apps) off. My phone generates so much less stress and anxiety when I’m not listening to it go off all day or constantly getting alerts.

How they fought, Rebecca Sugar specifically but I'm sure there were others, who fought to allow these gals to get married. There are still places in the world where you would get killed just for being queer, so let's try to say this in solidarity: As long as there is a lower class, I'm of it. As long as there is a criminal element, I'm in it. As long as there is a single soul in prison, I am not free.
