Hi everyone,

Before diving into today's main topic regarding the Comix plugin, I want to start with an important heads-up about how I share project news so nobody misses out on future releases!

💬 First Things First: Where Have All the Posts Gone? (a.k.a. Follow My Quips!)

I know I haven't been publishing many traditional long-form posts here on Patreon lately, but I want to reassure everyone right away: development is far from slowing down, quite the opposite!

I have been pushing updates for the JAM Alpha practically every couple of days, and the Public Release has also received multiple updates over the past few weeks. The reason you are seeing fewer standard posts is simply that I have switched to using Quips, Patreon's new feature for short, tweet-style status updates. They are infinitely faster and more convenient for my workflow than writing a full article every time, allowing me to drop quick notes whenever a new build, plugin fix, or update goes live.

Quips are 100% free and visible to everyone, so if you want to stay up to date in real time on all JAM releases and hotfixes, make sure to check the Quips tab on my Patreon page or visit https://www.patreon.com/cw/redsquirrel87/quips !

And now, it's time to talk about Comix issue.

🛡️ Comix's Crackdown on Third-Party Apps

Over the past few days, many of you have noticed sudden blocks or errors while using the Comix plugin. Recently, Comix rolled out an aggressive new protection system, combining a custom WAF (Web Application Firewall) with strict client-side anti-tampering checks, specifically designed to detect and block third-party readers and automated downloaders.

Even though JAM's Python engine operates through a real browser environment, the site's new security scripts started running deep cross-checks:

JavaScript Environment Inspection: Checking if native browser functions have been modified by external hooks and silently sending error telemetry back to their servers.

Click Authenticity Verification: Distinguishing between synthetic clicks triggered via code and genuine physical mouse clicks.

Behavioral Rate-Limiting: Monitoring how fast and how evenly spaced requests are when flipping through chapter list pages or loading images.

To get around these new roadblocks, I completely rewrote the plugin's extraction logic so that JAM behaves indistinguishably from a regular human user:

Full Stealth Mode: All intrusive JavaScript hooks have been replaced with transparent techniques that leave zero footprint for the site's security checks to detect, while also blocking client-side telemetry reports at the network level.

Native Mouse Interactions & Ad-Popup Blocker: Page navigation no longer relies on scripted button clicks; instead, it dispatches genuine, hardware-level mouse movements and clicks. Additionally, the plugin now intercepts and immediately closes the annoying ad tabs and popunders that the site tries to spawn on the first click.

Randomized Request Pacing: Variable delays have been added between actions to mimic natural human browsing speed.

The direct side effect of these countermeasures is the time required to fetch a manga's chapter list. Previously, JAM could flip through chapter list pagination in fractions of a second. Doing that today immediately trips Comix's firewall, resulting in a 403 Forbidden error or endless CAPTCHA loops. To prevent your IP/session from being flagged, the script must now wait a randomized interval within 5 seconds before clicking to the next page of the chapter list:

On shorter series (with only 1 or 2 pages of chapters), you will barely notice the difference.

On long-running series (with dozens of chapter pages to cycle through), fetching the full chapter list will inevitably take a few minutes.

It is an unavoidable compromise: trading a bit of extra waiting time for the ability to keep downloading reliably without constant blocks.

Because this whole bypass relies on carefully timed pauses, aggressive download settings will undo the script's stealth protections. When downloading from Comix, please make sure to follow these two golden rules in your JAM settings:

Set Concurrent Downloads to 1 (Download ONLY 1 chapter at a time): This is critical. If you download 2, 3, or more chapters simultaneously, the network requests sent to Comix will overlap and collide, effectively nullifying the safety pauses built into the Python scripts and triggering the anti-bot block almost immediately.

Enable Random Pauses Between Chapters: In JAM's settings, turn on delays between chapter downloads. This keeps your overall download session looking natural from start to finish.

🔮 Looking Ahead: My Honest Long-Term Advice on Comix

While this update restores full functionality for now, we need to be realistic: Comix has clearly started an active war against third-party tools, and I fully expect them to roll out new countermeasures and updates in the near future that will break support again.

I will obviously do my best to keep up with their changes and push fixes whenever possible, but the best long-term advice I can give you today is to start migrating your manga to other sources and move away from Comix for any series that isn't strictly exclusive to it.Since Comix is essentially an aggregator that pulls chapters from other platforms anyway, true exclusives on there are virtually non-existent. Switching your ongoing series to alternative supported sites now will save you the headache of dealing with sudden downtime (and waiting around for new plugin fixes) every time Comix decides to escalate its anti-bot measures in the future.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and patience and don't forget to keep an eye on my Quips for future updates on this and everything JAM-related!! ❤️

Wow! Such Impressive sounding and hard work! Never used that particular site, but do appreciate all the effort you're putting in for those who do go to Comix! Keep up the great job! And thanks for letting people like me, who hadn't known about the Quips postings you've been doing! :)
