After having a load of copyright claims on my Polyend tracker video I thought I'd put something together about how I tend to deal with this stuff these days... not doing long filter sweeps is one thing.

If you use a sample... there's a 10 second rule for the content ID (maybe it can still be manually claimed, but its less likely to be picked up). AND.. samples get picked up by anyone who's used them.

Just something I wanted to get off my chest, and hopefully help others in the same boat.

How to Avoid YouTube Copyright Claims // It's not just the bots but fraudulent publishers!

For extra content, tutorials, samples and patches https://patreon.com/starskycarr How to avoid false YouTube copyright claims. I guess the bots are quite good at spotting stuff.. but they made a lot of error which we have to sort out... BUT at the other end *real people* uphold completely spurious claims. I put this to the test and try with a sample and with a reproduction of a track. One is avoidable... the other really isn't (and perhaps shouldn't be!). This isn't about avoiding paying your dues.. if you release a track with a sample the publishers and copyright holder will sue... this is about how to stop or reduce the annoyance of false claims and how to work within the guidelines while being creative, artistic, inventive and making great stuff. chemical brothers vids - a false claim that was dropped by the management https://youtu.be/eAZOFjqyiT0 https://youtu.be/Uc7_j3XMAvE Polyend Chicago track - a false claim eventually avoided by working with the youtube regs https://youtu.be/fPEjNeuCSu4 Robert Miles Children remake - not a sample.. but ID'd as it's so similar... fair enough! (although I could perhaps argue educational fair use as it's demoing the abilities of a single synth) https://youtu.be/QcS4vPCP-II Affiliate Links: Perfect Circuit https://www.pjtra.com/t/SENKTExLTUtDSEpJR0ZGQ0hJTUZHTA Thomann https://thmn.to/thocf/xpnsixr8gp Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/shop/starskycarr Reverb https://reverb.grsm.io/6mtwzga2a4ys Other places you’ll find me: ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/starskycarr ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/starskycarr ► Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/starskycarr ► Bandcamp https://starskycarr.bandcamp.com/releases ► Clubbing TV From the Studio: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYIYEC4M53KQs4FeYpCY51sHxoK2l2Z0O 0:00 The sh*t we have to deal with 1:17 It's not just the bots.. but fraudulent publishers 3:23 Testing the bots... how many false claims? 7:52 Using samples.. *they're claimed by everyone!* 11:23 Tips for avoiding the copyright trap

This is a real pain, YouTube’s claim system is out of control and also being abused. I’ve watched many YouTubers suffer from it. Apparently, from listening to others who have these problems, the only way to get help from YouTube is to @ them on twitter. And even then it’s a crap shoot. They only usually respond if a bunch of people make a big stink about an issue. It really is a joke. Best of luck, love your videos.

Me and my wife (who is also a producer and content maker) watched this in horror. It really is a very broken system. My frustration at the moment is that because I don't have a big enough following on YouTube I can't claim any of the royalties for my videos at all. This doesn't stop YouTube putting advertising on them!!! So presumably they are monetizing my videos and taking the cash and I get nothing. On my other (non music) channel which again doesn't have enough followers to monetize,. I have videos with over 100000 streams and don't earn a penny. I don't get it, why do you need a certain number of followers before you can monetize your channel? I've uploaded the content, it's my copyright, I should get the earnings, not YouTube. So now I have the dilemma: do I not bother to upload things to YouTube so I'm not lining their pockets? But then how do I grow my channel? And being a niche musician and subject matter, will I ever get enough followers to actually monetize my channel?
