Merry Christmas to all... unless you don't celebrate Christmas... In that case Merry Christmas to all, except you...
The great news is that Steam accepted my redacted version of ValleyDew Star, so now they just have to approve my store page. While I was waiting for the approval, I figured I'd start on another game: SnowBound. I know it wasn't the most popular choice but, it's the one I'm motivated to do right now.
I decided to go for an "isometric" design because I like pain... Why else would anyone try to code something so horrible... But, I've got it kinda working... You can walk around ONLY in 4 directions. None of that double-speed sideways BS. Once I chose the QWAS keys to move, it actually was intuitive to control.
Pretty much the entire week was drawing, inking, scanning, coloring, editing, fitting art to code, writing the code, fixing all the weird shit... and it doesn't look good at all. I was pretty disappointed with everything... but, I've run out of time. I'm already a day late with this post... so it's not "working" but here is an image of what I got so far:
This will be a "survival" game but I want to do something different. No 328 chests for inventory management, or 472 workstations. Instead, I'm trying to make crafting more realistic but also easier. Once you know how to do something and have the materials, you just craft what you want. The caveat is you need to spend the time to do it. So, you don't just collect Flax then click makeRope and voila... You actually have to dry the flax, break it down to fiber, pull it through a comb, then twist it into rope... all which takes time, likely days for some tasks. I imagine I will have art for all the steps... but, it might just be a list, if it get's too complicated. So, you'll need to manage your time between crafting, foraging food, collecting firewood to avoid freezing, and interacting with the women... (of course women need to be in the game) Crafting should be more about unlocking better stuff, but not mandatory to survive. Only shelter, food and wood is needed for survival, all which can be found on the ground from foraging. Basic shelter might be a tent you start with or you can dig a snow hole, igloo sort of thing at anytime... I also want to have weather, which will be sunny, snow, blizzard, and iceDeath... So, the player will need to stock up or plan ahead. Anyways, it's early on, everything might change.
Happy Holidays everyone.
