I finished about 20 layers and coded them into the game to see how it looks before I get too far along. The coat will need to be cut into at least three pieces, (back arm, chest, front arm) and the pants will need different variations going over the boots, or cut to go inside boots. I'll need backgrounds for on the snow, in a tent, and cabin eventually. The boots look bad, and I hate drawing footwear. Would be nice if AI could just draw them for me. I'll deal with that later...
I knew it would fail from previous HTML games, but tried using math to rotate the leg down to rest on the lower leg, a simple 36 degree rotation. Here's an example of the code needed for EVERY rotation...
ctx.save();ctx.rotate(degrees*Math.PI/180);ctx.drawImage(imgName, 0,0,filewidth,fileHeight, xPos,yPos, scaleWidth,scaleHeight);ctx.restore();
...and this doesn't even work. Instead of rotating the leg piece around the image's centre, it rotates around the CANVAS centre... so the leg ends up half-off the screen, meaning I'd need to use trial-and-error guessing to move the X and Y until it's back in position... or set every image to be full screen size. So, that's not OK. Instead, all rotations will all need to be separately drawn art layers.
Even after a month's work, I'm still only about 25% finished the clothing layers, (drawn, scanned, bezier-curves, colored, shaded, cut+saved, coded...) but I'm getting bored. Might switch to coding again. Finish up the crafting paths to a tent so I have a background for the girlfriend.
