I hate the whole ends justify the means, never liked it and never will. But also ignoring any information gained fron the horrors dealt feels bad. The perpetrators should be tried and subjected to their own horrors. I feel the victims need a memorial in all places that use any findings from these tragedies.

Don't know if y'all mention it later in the episode or series but the Japanese acceleration industrially and technology was prompted not only by access to western trade, but also because they feared if they didn't adapt to modernity they would be colonized. When America forced them to open up trade they realized how little power they had against literal or cultural colonization. They adapted as a means of preserving their culture and autonomy.

Fun Japanese cultural thing. The number 4 is unlucky because it is sometimes pronounced shi, which is the word for death, and this guy being named 4, is already telling

Japanese and many Asian languages have lots of homonyms. Ishii and Ishi for doctor are completely different words. Ishi means rock which is the first part of his surname followed by i meaning warn. Ishi meaning doctor is i meaning medical and shi meaning master. So you are wrong about speculation him having influences on language or terms for doctors.
