Thank you (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone. Since I last updated patreon yesterday, I have quadrupled my following here and it felt weird to continue with business as usual without acknowledging it. Thank you all so, so much. It's really helped me out in a time of need.
I've thought about doing a newsletter on here before but never felt like anybody would read it, but this feels like the perfect moment for a reintroduction and update.
So what do I post here?
Basically, I post anything I'm drawing at the moment. During the drawing of a book, that's gonna mean a lot of out of context panels as I'm doing right now with DeadEndia: The Divine Order (coming out next year). It gives you a tease of what's to come, but I promise, I'm avoiding big spoilery stuff. I want you to experience the final DeadEndia chapter in book form as it was intended.
Also during a big project like DeadEndia, I am trying to post every week day. But that may go to once or twice a week between projects.
But I'm also going to be posting other projects. Right now the main things you'll see are from an adult comedy series pitch set in the Victorian times called Urchins and a ultraman-inspired graphic novel series called Big Boy Now. But I have other things cooking - I'm working on a film script, a video game and more!
BUT I'd love to know what more stuff you'd like to see on here! Please let me know in the comments below.
So ... why am I poor if I've got all that going on?
It's a fair question. I felt so humiliating asking for help on twitter yesterday but it's a lot of things at once. As exciting as all of that stuff is, it's all development work and there's very little money in development work. I've got great stuff on the horizon but... the money flow is very slow. Even my new book deal is excellent, but I won't get the next payment until I've finished the third book and that won't be done for a while. I'm doing all these cons and book tours out of my own pocket, and book sales go to the publisher of course, so even though this all seems like an exciting time for me again... I'm not making money.
My life is very good, and I don't feel deserving of pity. But my income is so sporadic that it never feels secure. The cost of living in the UK has got horrendous and especially London where I need to be for any of these projects to happen, but it can feel really depressing to be less that a year out of your tv show airing and still struggling to pay rent.
So how can we help?
Well if you're reading this, you've already done more than enough and I'm very grateful.
The DeadEndia books are a good way to support me and get closer to paying off that advance. The best place to get them is either directly from Union Square or Barnes & Noble, or from my Streamily store although I know the prices there are pretty insane. I've included a personalised commission for Streamily orders and you'll of course get to watch me sign them on Instagram live on May 14th.
I am also going to be at several events this year:
29-30 APRIL, TORONTO COMICS AND ARTS FESTIVAL, CANADA
2 MAY, 5pm, SANTA MONICA PUBLIC LIBRARY, LOS ANGELES, USA
26-28 MAY, LONDON MCM COMIC CON, UK
12-13 AUGUST, FLAME CON, NEW YORK, USA (Unconfirmed)
11-12 NOVEMBER, THOUGHT BUBBLE, HARROGATE, UK
I also plan on doing a UK tour around June/July but more details to follow. And I'd love to do more international events but as I say, I have to pay for them myself and these can be costly.
I hope to see you at one of these shows but if not, I'm just really happy to have you here!
