The 60th historical drama depicts the life of Shibusawa Eiichi, known as the Father of Capitalism in Japan. He lived from the mid-19th to early 20th century, contributing to around 600 public projects, and led around 500 enterprises to success. He also committed to international relations and was nominated to Nobel Peace Prize twice. He kept on challenging with high aspirations throughout the life and his well-calculated planning and sincere work opened up the way to the future of modern Japan.

UPDATE: There were instances that I used "Emperor" in the sub, I fixed that and I switched it to "Shogun". So sorry about that.

NOTES:

  • Yamato period is the period of Japanese history when the Japanese Imperial court ruled from modern-day Nara Prefecture, then known as Yamato Province.
  • Taika Reform was a set of doctrines established by Emperor Kōtoku in the year 645. They were written shortly after the death of Prince Shōtoku and the defeat of the Soga clan, uniting Japan. The reforms also artistically marked the end of the Asuka period and the beginning of the Hakuhō period. Crown Prince Naka no Ōe (who would later reign as Emperor Tenji), Nakatomi no Kamatari, and Emperor Kōtoku jointly embarked on the details of the Reforms. Emperor Kōtoku then announced the era of "Taika" (大化), or "Great Reform". The Reform began with land reform, based on Confucian ideas and philosophies from China, but the true aim of the reforms was to bring about greater centralization and to enhance the power of the imperial court, which was also based on the governmental structure of China. Envoys and students were dispatched to China to learn seemingly everything from the Chinese writing system, literature, religion, and architecture, to even dietary habits at this time. Even today, the impact of the reforms can still be seen in Japanese cultural life.
  • The Heian period is the last division of classical Japanese history, running from 794 to 1185. The period is named after the capital city of Heian-kyō, or modern Kyoto. It is a period in Japanese history when Chinese influences were in decline and the national culture matured. The Heian period is also considered the peak of the Japanese imperial court and noted for its art, especially poetry and literature. Although the Imperial House of Japan had power on the surface, the real power was in the hands of the Fujiwara clan, a powerful aristocratic family who had intermarried with the imperial family. Many emperors actually had mothers from the Fujiwara family. Heian means "peace" in Japanese.
  • Genpei War was a national civil war between the Taira and Minamoto clans during the late-Heian period of Japan. It resulted in the downfall of the Taira and the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate under Minamoto no Yoritomo, who appointed himself as Shōgun in 1192, governing Japan as a military dictator from the eastern city of Kamakura.
  • Hojo clan in the history of Japan was a family who controlled the hereditary title of shikken (regent) of the Kamakura shogunate between 1203 and 1333.
  • Ashikaga clan was a prominent Japanese samurai clan which established the Muromachi shogunate and ruled Japan from roughly 1333 to 1573.
  • Ōnin War also known as the Upheaval of Ōnin and Ōnin-Bunmei war, was a civil war that lasted from 1467 to 1477, during the Muromachi period in Japan. Ōnin refers to the Japanese era during which the war started; the war ended during the Bunmei era. A dispute between Hosokawa Katsumoto and Yamana Sōzen escalated into a nationwide civil war involving the Ashikaga shogunate and several daimyō in many regions of Japan. The war initiated the Sengoku period, "the Warring States period". This period was a long, drawn-out struggle for domination by individual daimyō, resulting in a mass power-struggle between the various houses to dominate the whole of Japan.
  • Tokugawa shogunate is also known, especially in Japanese, as the Edo shogunate, was the feudal military government of Japan during the Edo period from 1600 to 1868. The Tokugawa shogunate declined during the Bakumatsu ("final act of the shogunate") period from 1853 and was overthrown by supporters of the Imperial Court in the Meiji Restoration in 1868.
  • Shimabara Rebellion was an uprising that occurred in the Shimabara Domain of the Tokugawa Shogunate in Japan from 17 December 1637 to 15 April 1638.
  • Tokugawa Yoshinobu was the 15th and last shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan. Matsudaira Shichiromaro was the birth name of Tokugawa Yoshinobu
  • Gosanke
The Tokugawa Gosanke (徳川御三家, literally "three houses of the Tokugawa"), also called simply Gosanke or even Sanke, where three branches of the Tokugawa clan of Japan descended from clan founder Tokugawa Ieyasu's three youngest sons, Yoshinao, Yorinobu, and Yorifusa and allowed to provide a shogun in case of need.
  • Chūnagon was a counselor of the second rank in the Imperial Court of Japan.
  • Kintarō (金太郎, often translated as "Golden Boy") is a folk hero from Japanese folklore. A child of superhuman strength, he was raised by a yama-uba ("mountain witch") on Mount Ashigara. He became friendly with the animals of the mountain, and later, after catching Shuten-dōji, the terror of the region around Mount Ōe, he became a loyal follower of Minamoto no Yorimitsu under the new name Sakata no Kintoki.
  • Three Character Classic is one of the Chinese classic texts. The work is not one of the traditional six Confucian classics, but rather the embodiment of Confucianism suitable for teaching young children.
  • Philipp Franz von Siebold (German physician)
  • Johan Willem de Stürler (Dutch colonial administrator)
  • Gewehr (the German word for rifle)

Where does one get the RAW from ?

Arno Kempers

Not on my usual places like Nyaa or Justpaste. Found only a streaming site, but no download function.

Thank you. I searched on the file mentioned in the subs, but still couldn´t find it ;) Your link works better, thanks.

The Dutch bit is barely audible. All I could understand was: Now that China has lost against England, Japan now becomes ‘fodder’ for them (ie, their next target). Not bad pronouciation though 😀

Arno Kempers

It’s later subtitled in Japanese I see 😉 Same text as before.

ECOTV Presents

I translated the Japanese caption. Last line it says "日の本" を守らねば (Hinomoto o mamoraneba) or Protect "Japan".

Just watched the first episode and literally just read you’re dropping this. Ah. Pity. I hope they speak more Dutch, won’t need the subs then 😉

ECOTV Presents

I wanted to continue but one particular subber is particularly voicing against me subbing it and I know my sub isn't as perfect as theirs but I release them out of pure joy and excitement. Subbing means that I am also watching it, that's what matters to me.
