That's no modifier...
Hello!
Today I've got an update on the previous Modifier Playtest, as well as Artifice's first (mini) sidequest: the AK-47.
While the AK won't become a survival-obtainable weapon in the base mod, I wanted to make it because it is very cool. But fear not, it won't go to waste! I'll find something to do with it, whether leaving it in as an easter egg, or maybe an armament-expansion down the road as an addon.
📜Changes Include...
Added AK47
30-round, automatic, high recoiling assault rifle
Model/texture is not finished, and it's reusing the sounds from other guns
Not intended to be balanced, just fun.
Finalized Suppressor
Fixed muzzleloading animation collision
Polished muzzle flash emission
Finalized the statline, and added a tooltip
Added recipe
Finalized Hook Shot Modifier (Harpoon Modifier)
Renamed Harpoon Modifier to Hook Shot Modifier
Added recipe
Added tooltip
No Changes to Heavy Bolt or Leech modifier
See notes below
Other Changes: BREAKING CHANGES FOR ADDONS!
Reworked Fire Delay handling to reduce network stuttering
Reworked Animation Adjusters to be addon-extensible, and support multiple on one gun
Dev Notes
I'm not a big fan of the Heavy Bolt. The idea is simple: shoot slower, but harder. In practice, however, it is not nearly as fun as the other modifiers that increase damage. Overcharged Powder and Scattershot increase the damage you deal, but also come with side effects that change how you play when using that gun.
On the other hand, the Heavy Bolt's downsides scale completely orthogonally to damage. You still shoot and play the same way, just slower. Worse, since the side effects are so one-dimensional, you can just cover it up with a Hair Trigger and Gun Oil.
As for Leech, I'm still thinking of different ways to implement a fun mechanic that is worth sacrificing a heart to shoot. I like the conditional nature of firing while being out of ammo, but it is currently far too strong given the balance of magazine size in the mod. There are ways to cap the amount of shots each modifier lets you shoot, but I haven't found any great systems that don't rachet up the complexity of the modifier past where I want it
To resolve both issues, I'm thinking of removing the Heavy Bolt, and giving the Leech modifier a damage bonus instead. But I'm still open to ideas and feedback, so let me know what you think!
Otherwise, check out the latest preview with this fun concoction of content!
Thank you for the support!
