A couple weeks ago in Washington DC I got to visit THE American kilogram - that is the object on which all measurements of weight have been based for the last 130 years. And that includes measurements made in pounds.

Did you know the Utah constitution included a requirement to teach the metric system in all schools? That requirement was repealed in 1987

The American Kilogram

The US signed the metre convention and bases all customary units on SI standards. As an aside, the Utah constitution from 1895 required the metric system to be taught in schools. This requirement was repealed in 1987. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Huge thanks to NIST, Ben Stein and Patrick Abbott.

Very nice. Will the Watt Balance beat the Silicon Sphere? What a cliffhanger! By the way, was this a side-trip during your March for Science M.C. gig?

So, how do they calibrate a scale with this system? To what decimal point do these scales measure?
