Bigger Boat Quote! lol

Tom Mclean

Yes my favourite movie of all time.

Aaron Barlow

The bit where Ben Gardiner's pale head floats through the hole is the greatest jump scare in cinema history.

Even Steven Spielberg complained in later years that the shark looked fake. Now we have amazing level CG that can produce a photoreal great white like the movies 'The Shallows' and 'Kon Tiki'. Imagine if Spielberg had modern VFX at his disposal. Still for most of the movie when we only see the shark through the water or just glimpses of it it looked good.

Funny how Ellie said afterwards that we're vegetarians and we don't like people killing the shark. Considering sharks are complete carnivores and this one was eating people lol.

Great fun reaction. Thank you ladies.

Classic thriller that never gets old for me. For the time they made this movie that shark looked crazy real to me (at least compared to some of these other shark movies)

Just fyi, this is kind of based on a true story, except it was a whale in the true story. The movie was based on a novel which was based on another novel that was based on a legend that was based on a true event, in the 1800s, the sinking of the Essex by a bull sperm whale that seemed to have a preternatural intelligence and a score to settle. The Essex was an American whaling ship, they made their living killing whales for their oil, and other products. They'd find the whales out in the ocean, then use smaller boats to chase and harpoon them, for hours, even days, exhausting them until they could kill them. It wasn't uncommon for the whales to fight back, to attack the smaller boats. But in this case, a great old bull, patriarch of a big group of female whales and their calves, realized the Essex was where they came from so he attacked it, instead of the smaller boats, and sank it. Then he follows the stranded crew in the three small boats for days. One boat just disappeared one night, the other two made it to a desert island, before leaving it to seek the mainland. Both boats were eventually saved, but on one the crew had resorted to cannibalism by then. The novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville, who worked as a whaler for a few years, was inspired by that story, just the idea of a beast that seemed like a force of nature. Also, "Kill, the, shark, doot doot dadoot dadoot" 🤣 Love these ladies!

1:38:28 the story about the InIndianapolis Navy ship going down is a true story. A Japanese submarine sunk the ship in the Philippine Sea. Out of the 1,195 crew only 316 were found alive. They believe more than 150 of the troops died from shark attacks
