When I explain my plan, my brilliant idea, to the rest of the group, I am not surprised by their reaction. I am scared. None of them seems to mind. Some even seem to think it is a good idea and beat themselves up for not thinking of it sooner. Where my idea was just that, an idea, they start coming up with a plan. They set protocols to follow and reactions to perform in case something gets fucked up.

Sophie, the twins, and Tess even enter Thought Acceleration Level 1 with Maya’s help. Tess and Sophie spend four or so days there planning, while only half an hour passes for the rest of us outside.

Such dedication makes it seem even more real. I gradually give up on trying to protest and go along with the plan to head into the center of this planet. We still need to time it properly, as that is a vital part of the strategy. We are about to do what I like to call the Nathaniel Special. It is the strategy where you use system-given timing to your advantage.

If you need to steal something from a dangerous place, you just estimate the amount of time you need to grab it and sync that with the moment the system will teleport you away. Then you can just rush in without worrying about how you would otherwise escape. If whoever is responsible for the system did not mean for us to abuse it that way, they would not have put it in.

I also set up a long-range teleportation array connected to our cache of items in an underground cave. I am worried we might not get a chance to return or that the cave will be destroyed during an earthquake or the progressing Harvest.

Most of us agree that the Harvest is just whatever is inside the planet, or the planet itself, devouring everything it can on the surface. I begin to think that the bodies of powerful beings left there are likely used to feed it, like when you are raising an animal. I just don’t know for what this planet is being raised.

Currently, we have been sitting in a cave for a few days as guests of a literal spawn of the devil. The golden ferret keeps bouncing about as if it does not know what to do with so many people there. The cave is big enough to fit a small building and is suspiciously clean. There are no bloodied walls, no bones of prey, and no few hundred more ferrets that would likely be enough to destroy the world.

It is just this single right hand of the devil ferret and multiple piles of interesting things. Often they are pieces of shiny stones, wood, or plants. Plenty of them are of Arcane rarity, and I suspect there is a place with better-hidden ones of an even higher grade. I notice a few items that were clearly stolen from us, yet another evil deed in a vast sea of those already existing.

While I use the long-range teleportation array to move all of our supplies from the original hidey-hole, I watch the ferret carefully. It often moves close to Biscuit and stares at the body of the white deer. I bet the ferret would be best friends with that pyromaniac lunatic.

Once we finish talking through the most important points and final preparations, I, still in my gecko t-shirt, look at the piles of items we have marked for teleportation but can leave behind if needed. Surprisingly, the ferret does something similar. It wears a clumsily made vest assembled from pieces of leather. I suspect it made the vest itself, copying the one Biscuit has, and it stuffs it with stones and bits of metal. It also runs around, hiding some of its other treasures when it thinks we are not looking.

As we delve back outside, it follows us, and we follow Min-Jae, who uses his eyes to navigate toward the deepest crack. Most of the forest around us is damaged, trees are uprooted, and monsters fight everywhere, many of them having stronger signatures. There are rarely any demon tribes, making me think they are likely in a somewhat safer place or went all out and are having the best time of their life somewhere.

Then a thought comes to me. Did someone throw the demons down into the Pit, or did they come here on their own, searching for the most dangerous environment that would allow them to grow in strength?

I shake that thought and place multiple long-lasting teleportation marks, some anchored to mana stones I place on the highest tree. Others in the group who can do something similar do the same, and then we jump into the widest tear we can find. We fall through the air before sliding against the wall and jumping down from stone platform to platform.

Vines as thick as my body stretch all over the place. Plenty of plants and even trees exist down here, even as it begins to grow darker. It is as if they do not need much light, or any at all.

Once again, the pressure and mana radiation begin to rise. It feels as if it moves in rivers, which I can faintly see with my Preeminence eyes. The further down we go, the more noticeable it becomes, with the mana radiation rivers lighting up the area. At first, it is visible only to me, but later, the others come to see it as well.

Beautiful pale blue, dark blue, purple, and green lights fill the area, revealing old structures and fauna even more gigantic than those on the surface. We pass through caves enormous enough to pack in entire cities, and as more cracks open, we follow Min-Jae.

***

Hours pass, and another enormous structure appears, a building made of stone and metal, bigger than mountains and possibly older than many of them. It is grand and enormous to the point that we cannot even see most of it because of the darkness. The mana radiation river lights only a third of it. As we pass, it disappears behind us, taking its secrets and mysteries with it, possibly never to be seen again.

The monsters here are twisted and dangerous, as though there was a reason they were never allowed out into the sunlight above. Some we run away from. Others we fight head-on in combat that sometimes takes tens of minutes as we move across terrain that continues to fall apart.

One of these is a flying red eye with a spine growing from its back that hangs down. From it, thousands of what seem like veins and nerves spread into the area. Every time any part of it touches anything, that object falls under its control to attack me.

Split from the group, which is dealing with another threat, I finally push the eye against the wall with constant blasts of kinetic energy. I hurry to rejoin them, sensing some of their signatures fading.

For a moment, my thermal cube lights the area, revealing dozens of pyramids in yet another cave as big as a city and as tall as a skyscraper. The golden thermal energy bounces wildly inside the thermal cube before it passes by, lighting a nearby pyramid and slamming into the eye. It passes through the hole my lance made and burrows deep inside, sizzling as it goes.

Like a flamethrower, the golden flames burst from the eye, pushing it further against the wall like a jet engine. The flames light the eyeball from the inside, the surface of the eye magnifying any light passing through. The cave is lit to a great extent, revealing the shadows of monsters at the edge who pull back as if they have never experienced light before.

[You have defeated Spinebound Overseer - lvl 421]

[Lvl 391 > Lvl 392]

[Redistribution - lvl 76 > Redistribution - lvl 77]

My teleportation fails as a new river of mana radiation breaks through the wall, disrupting the mana in the area and my placed marks. Switching to kinetic energy, I land on the ground and move in a burst of Wraith Dance.

One of the presences reaches for me, and for a moment, I let my mana to fully reveal itself. In that flash, I see the enormous shadow pull back into the shadows and let me pass.

Rejoining the group, I find Lily unconscious, carried over the shoulder of Tess, who is missing one of her eyes. Her blonde hair is tangled and streaked with blood, and with a single eye, she watches the battlefield coldly as her javelins fly toward the oncoming monsters. Her crown flickers, dying as its reserves run out.

I check everyone’s signatures and rush to Izzy and Maya, who are barely on their feet, facing a monster, a golem of raw flesh with green bones, whose sheer strength makes me wonder how they are still alive.

The golem sways and falls down, and its terrifying mana signature finally dies off. Its body riddled by dozens of holes that seem to have killed it. Out of its mouth, something with golden fur crawls out before running away in a burst of movement. With a shout, Izzy gives chase, and I gesture at Maya, who nods and runs to join the others, while I quickly follow Izzy.

I find her and the ferret in a small cave where she barely fits. The ferret is lying on the ground, its body torn all over and broken, breathing raggedly and grasping for breath. It looks as if it found a quiet place to die.

Izzy moves closer, even as the ferret tries to pull away, yet she still reaches her hand toward it. With an expression I cannot discern, the ferret looks at her before moving. It twists its head and takes a small, bloodied stone out of its vest. With one of its paws missing, it takes a clumsy step toward our empath and, in a desperate trade, shakily pushes that stone into her hand. It looks at her, almost scared of what reaction will follow.

Then Izzy accepts the stone and the trade.

I almost shout when the ferret jumps at her in a burst that takes the last of its energy, but Izzy gestures for me to hold back. Instead of burrowing through, the ferret lands on her chest gently, and she carefully puts her arms around it. Shaking, the ferret snuggles her. What before seemed so creepy now looks like a desperate search for warmth and affection. At first, it looks unsure of what to do, but as Izzy hugs it, the creature gives in and presses against her, and rubs its small head against her cheek.

After a while, the ferret stops shaking, and a few moments later, it does not move anymore.

"Even Lily would not be able to help," Izzy sobs. "It saved me, and I could never read its emotions until now. I always knew Biscuit liked it, but I was always scared. Nat… it just always wanted some warmth. It was so alone."

"We have to go, Izzy," I remind her gently as the place around us continues to shake.

She sniffs one more time. "I know."

Gently, she places the ferret down. It looks so small and fragile now with all the wounds and the missing paw. Izzy does not take any valuable stones or metals from the vest. She just keeps the one stone that was pressed into her hand and, for the last time, gently pets the golden fur.

We hurry back and rejoin the fight. Lily remains unconscious, and no one knows how badly she is hurt. The twins barely drag themselves along with almost no mana remaining, as we are left with no other choice but to push deeper with just an hour left.

The floor beneath us collapses, and we plummet in a freefall that lasts for minutes. Even as we fall, I keep raising my mana to shield us from mana radiation, fending off the monsters attacking us.

Flashes of our mana and skills light up the rushing walls, emphasizing the speed of our descent.

Only when we are close to the bottom do I absorb our momentum, our group slumping against a ground that is far too smooth.

There, lights turn on one after another, showing an enormous chamber lined by pillars that stretch so tall their tops disappear in the darkness. When the last light flashes, it reveals what seems like a throne.

A figure sits there. A velnar man, tall and muscular like any of his kind, and even seated, he towers over all of us. His eyes are golden, and his long hair is pitch black.

He wears gray robes reminiscent of a Roman toga, his chest exposed, and stares at us with his chin resting on his fist.

ShyviaAngel

The end of last chapter and the first paragraph of this one is just an absolute combo

Emmanuel Martinez

Of fucking course it is a BIG ASS cliffhanger on a Thursday. Goddamit, Cerim. Also I love you. But come on, at least give us a chapter or seven of them soon. It’s 2026, and your cliffhangers are improving too much.

tost

Tune in next week: How does our hero Count Dracniel (or Helsingiel?) win against this mighty foe?!

Tercius

Ah man thats so sad why you do this to me.

Griffus

Poor ferret

TheOne320

Is he the Ruler? Did we ever see the floor that Pride is on yet? But Pride is confirmed as a human right?

Adrian Rake

This Lycan of Ruin gives me Conan vibe. I think that cerim was inspired by the movie: „Conan the barbarian”.

Budgie

One of these chapters someone is going to die.

ForgottenDreams

Man I actually got really sad for skippy :(

ForgottenDreams

Pride has no floor, he declined the concept. 14 rulers, 13 floors

Michael Williams

Is it raining for anyone else? How dare you cerim!

Michael Williams

Pride does not have a floor in the tutorial as far as we know. There are 13 floors and 14 rulers.

Cursed artichoke

We were told early on that there are only 13 floors because one ruler refused to leave a copy and we later found out that that ruler was Pride so we won’t see him on any floor.

Isaac Lung

5 question marks, so probably level 600 at least. Question is, does he know he’s in a tutorial?

Daniel Bessa

it cant be, pride is a human man

frozzi

Lets goo, first proper Absolute encounter in floors

AL

I am thinking this will be the last tutorial floor.

frozzi

Skippy is the big ass slime from 2 chapters ago, how did you even miss it

Skye

Well thats terrifying...

Skye

Lvl 600 - 750

ForgottenDreams

Thought ferret was, because savant asked about it, but no one had mentioned a slime before. We had seen the ferret though. Idk

Butter ofEternity

Also if I remeber correctly pride doesnt have a tutorial floor. There are 14 rulers but only 13 floors

Terri Harris

Lots of powerful dudes sitting on thrones lately. Maybe this encounter will help prepare Nat for Adrians throne tower. Definitely feel bad for the ferret even if it is a fake system floor creation. The way it wanted to trade stuff is similar to Nat and Savi's mind set of quid pro quo, yet still sacrificed itself saving Izzy. Very Sweet. They should trust Biscuits judgements more. Can't wait to see how this all plays out. Funny how there's less than an hour left on the floor. So much fun! Tftc!

I Is Patron

Probably not. I think the only reason Liss realised she in tutorial is because of her broken lvl 100 Control skill

J W

Poor ferret.

Gwiddion

It could be someone stronger than absolutes. As he has some kind of title from the system and since it looks like this planet isn't a real planet so it doesn't have a spark to claim. Could be someone similar to the mage or the slayer that were mentioned in earlier chapters.

Edmund Dillon

Guess the ferret was a homie too😭, tftc!!!!

Isaac Lung

Probably much stronger than the average Absolute and closer to a Ruler.

zoarian

Crack theory: This is the ancestor of Biscuit's disciple. Class is Lycan meaning wolf. Plus, he was supposed to consume planets. Probably not, but it would be fun!

Auraelis

Poor ferret... Biscuit was so right, when Nathaniel said to him to get rid of the Ferret he just said one word : "Friend"

Kirin

Thank you for the chappie!

Midy

Glutony ?

Andrew

Thank you!

Raymond

There was so much packed into one chapter. Nicely done

Hydrabogen

She has no level 100 skill, no one does

Death56

I mean it was caving in things chest and bathing in their organs and tried that on nat as well

frozzi

That's why I said "proper", Lissy doesn't count in my eyes as we never got her class and levels

Vhena

What is “manato” was it meant mana to fully reveal itself. Or did I miss a skill? “I let my manato fully reveal itself. In that flash, I see the enormous shadow pull back into the shadows and let me pass.”

CT

In Biscuit we trust! I can see Lycan and Biscuit becoming instant friends and him talking about his disciple making Lycan proud.

Borbino the great

I think he was just meaning mana but it was phrased a little off

Terri Harris

Did it though? Seems like Nat assumed when it flew toward him that it intended to attack, but Nat always stopped him with kinetic energy from getting to him. And afterwards the ferret just went on its way. What if like with Izzy it just wanted to be close to Nat, and be held by him?

Tishane :Imperial MageKiller

Lol wanted some warmth i remember Brock Samson cutting open a polar bear and make the Doc wear on go team venture.

Tishane :Imperial MageKiller

Ohhhhj I was wondering 🤔 lol this makes sense if it ends up being biscuits deciples ancestor.

Xion

My guess is maya or one of the twins!

Marwolaeth

Actually she made a bet/challenge with the system as a witness that she had perfectly mastered it (lv100) and the system accepted, then she won the bet

Nictis

Pride??? Pride fight?

Jimbo

no backup healer seems like a real oversight for the team. Would be smart to get Sophie or Izzy some healing skills, to restore Lilly when needed. Nice to see more of Izzy and her perspective. Would like to see her and Noodle in a solo fight with the fragment.

Manthar

It’s a velnar though, how do his descendants become wolves?

Jimbo

Biscuit has far better judgement than Nat.

Jimbo

< FRIEND! >

Jimbo

LYCAN, WHAT IS BEST IN LIFE?

KDR

If anyone from Group 4 dies at this point in the tutorial, I riot 😭 these lunatics

P K

I think it's just the name he has for his mama stand (the mana body manafeststion)

P K

If it is one of the twins, I bet they merge somehow (hopefully anyway, as a twin myself I really hope they don't loose one another forever)

Melih

Pride doesn't have a floor

Liam Zay

Lycan/lycanthropes can often switch between a human and wolf form

Fdrugc

Tftc

Boyo

There is going to be some crazy plot armor shenanegans taking place for all of the group members to survive the next hour. A guy posted last chapter about there being no reason for any teammates to die at this point, but someone going down here would be a lesson in caution that seems to be dearly needed for the gang. Only Nat is allowed to be suicidally irresponsible.

Nathan Holliday

How bloody high was Lassandra’s level. 5 ? Marks. And she was even higher.

Jordan Jones

It just wanted a hug. I’ll go watch happy ferret videos for a while.

2026-09-05 04:00 If anyone is wondering 5 question marks is level 600 to 749. Which is when someone can become an absolute although I'm pretty sure it's not automatic just like champions. 6 question marks is 750 to 899 which is when one can become a ruler. 900+ no idea if there are beings beyond that, mabye pride is just before level 900 or he's beyond it and hasn't gotten another title yet. Lissandra was probably at least level 700+ mabye even in the ruler range but refused the title for some reason.

Woodstock179

Always love the times we see him or them all going Full Nathaniel Special. 😎 tftc

Poutine Au Syrop d'érable

Immortality is a lvl 100 skill. Plenty of rulers do have 1. Envy even tries to trick people into thinking it's bad.

Charles Simon

Despite the discussion last chapter I don’t think this is Pride. I believe Greed previously mentioned Pride is a human when she was discussing Pride and Kindness making the demon race.

Johnny

Wtf the ferret had to go??? Now I’m all emotional damnit Cerim

jordicl

Liss did not refuse the title, she was of the pride subclass, so the only way to become one was to slay the current ruler of Pride, the strongest being in the system. She tried and failed.

I need more strength stuff future me

The question marks are only in the tutorial, right? And it wouldn't put anything beyond five question marks in there so... do they exist, also isn't it based off the number of class upgrades and as such isn't consistent?

RJ Barnes

Holy crap why am I said the ferret died WHY CERIM WHY

Sandra Bong

I wish they had had time to explore all those buildings!

Gutz

Okay that made me cry a little bit. They're so weak, it would already be a miracle if no one dies here.

Luis Guerrero

The only one I can see diying is one of the twins and then merging with connection

Val the mysterious Jedi

I love how the tutorial planets all show the environments that spawn rulers, this being on of the top three wtf planets

I need more strength stuff future me

Yo Lucas or Tom, the original Lycan, lycaeon was punished by the gods for feeding people to Zeus so maybe this guy is a physical manifestation of skippy before evolving? Srry just brainstorming

Manaless

Now you realize the disparity in the group's strength, and Nat hasn't even lost his left arm yet.

Skye

Somehow people keep forgetting that pride has no floor...

Gutz

Actually he was included in my comment 😂

Hellnhavoc

So this chapter is a great example of how I don’t get how someone like tacita could even hope to keep up with him. He as incredible as he is also supported by as nearly incredible team. Combine that with her extreme social issues. Just my thoughts.

Youkai-sama

5 QUESTION MARKS!?‽ 🫨😯

baggytoques

Yeah Nat seems so absurdly ahead of the curb. We haven't seen everything everyone can do but his build is op.

13L00D13ANE

Yeah, i think that was a response to my comment about speculating it was going to be Maya. My counter was that sometimes the lesson is that life isnt fair and shit happens. Also i know this is a story, but there doesnt need to be a lesson for someone to be taken from you.

CrypticAnon

Nat hasn’t historically been a reliable narrator and I’m usually ok with that, but it felt pretty bad here. He glossed over both “dangerous” enemies and terrain. He also didn’t describe the groups condition while handling these or what they might’ve thought the huge structure was(they really didn’t have any guesses after how long they’ve been on the floor?). All in all it was surprising to come back to the group completely spent and a companion dead. I apologize for not appearing appreciative of the near daily chapters, but this bothers me.

Chun

Well Tacita learned to incorporate mana more into her build in the latest ruler event and we did get like a what? 3 months timeskip? Which is a pretty long time

Khent Mercer

I've been wondering for a while if all Hell Tutorials are equal or if each is tailored to challenge the group that arrives in them. This group 4 may well face far greater hurdles than say Tacita.

Terri Harris

Great writing pulls a plethora of emotions and the characters gain life, and a kind of spiritual reality. Well done! When a character drivin story has side characters that pull on our empathy its pretty cool. Very few stories do I reread multiple times. But this has been and hopefully will continue to be one of my favorite. Along with The Dresden files. And Wheel of time. And a handful of others. Thank you for sharing your brilliant imagination with us. Write faster. And THANK YOU for writing so fast! Love it 😀

Shawn Treants

Poor ferret 😭 was hoping she could bond it or something
