We fight our way through a bloodline group, and this time it’s much more enjoyable as we don't have to wait for their minute of invulnerability.

After that, the second fight is about to happen, this time not in hallways but in a huge cubic room as the Glass House shifts and opens. Before that fight even starts, glass walls appear in front of us and Melek starts hyping it up. He introduces the combatants and mentions some impressive things they did, which makes me think it is mainly because of Prince Kip and not me and Vic.

From what I have seen, I think this vyssari who likes to use Superman-like laser eyes that are so powerful they burn his eyeballs, is one of the strongest participants. So far, I think it is him, that shadowy guy Euris, Xixi, the bear man with [Telekinesis], and a female thylarin with six arms who is an array specialist.

Every time any of them seem to enter a slightly more difficult fight, Melek starts annoying everyone, and the Glass House starts shifting impossibly.

"You have the last opportunity to donate! As the countdown will start in just a few seconds. Maybe the fate of your favorite lies on your shoulders!" Melek shouts.

It all makes me start taking note of our opponents. There are six of them, but it is difficult to say if they are dangerous, as only sight is able to pierce the walls, and I have no way of observing their presence. Not even my eyes help here.

So for now, I stand here and wonder what Melek would do if we just turned around and left after all this hyping up.

[Selective Adaptation - lvl 17 > Selective Adaptation - lvl 18]

Meanwhile, my new skill continues to level up nicely. It has already gained almost ten levels in just a few days. Maybe it isn't a bad idea to fuck my body up more to get an easy level up for the trouble. The question remains if that is even possible.

Strangely, I think Victoria knows what she is doing by telling me to limit my effort to thirty percent. There is a faint memory of someone else saying something similar, but their opinion doesn't matter as much as my sister's.

In the past few days, I have begun to feel almost rested, and it is becoming easier to keep my mind together. My ongoing trait strengthening and evolution are also simpler to deal with, and my constant work on my constructs continues, but since this time, I'm not strengthening them, only fixing them, it is much simpler.

I know it will be just a bit longer before I can stretch my metaphorical wings and test these changes with proper oomph.

[Weave - lvl 28 > Weave - lvl 29]

Yes, just a bit longer.

"The countdown starts!" Melek shouts and begins, "Ten!"

He counts down as if there are people counting down together with him, an audience that we can't hear. With each number, he becomes louder and louder. At about three, Vic grabs my hand and presses something into it. I don't even have to look down to know what it is.

The wall drops down, and Prince Kip squints his eyes as two white lasers shoot out of them, sweeping around.

Even though our opponents were building their defenses the entire time, the lasers cut through them as if they were nothing.

I see one participant get cut in half, another loses his leg, and a third gets cut in the neck before Prince Kip's eyes are entirely burned out. He closes them as he waits to heal. Even then, he doesn't stop and nimbly jumps in, using other senses to locate his opponents while he flies around in the same unnerving way that kinetic energy allows me. He changes direction with a thump to clash against one of the guys he wounded.

My sister is also already gone, and I watch her body explode into a pile of blood and flesh that drops to the glass floor, with some dirtying the wall, but through the air she regrows from one of the fingers. Her overclocked duplicate punches against the restored barrier and explodes, though the impact cracks it.

Three more Victorias appear, each charging the same spot. In quick succession, all three of them, one after another, hit that spot and explode into piles of flesh and blood, until the fourth breaks through and stabs her pressed-together fingers through the chest of a female human mage with a staff.

I boost myself down to the bottom of the huge cubic space we are in and twist to dodge two projectiles. I let my eyes see through the last one, and it breaks into particles of mana that twist around me. I gather them over the palm of my hand and form them into a dagger.

The air behind me shifts, and an invisible seventh opponent moves to attack me. Using my kinetic senses only, I locate him, and at the last possible moment, I reinforce my body and move. I use a short, sudden burst of high speed and a slash with the dagger that cuts into his body.

Another rain of projectiles shoots towards me before I can finish him. These projectiles twist in the air and track me, gathering more and more speed while also constantly adapting and changing.

The invisible opponent disappears too, picking up on the way I sensed them and countering it. There isn't even a heat signature I could follow, so while dodging the projectiles and disrupting the effort of that man to cast some large-scale attack, I close one of my Preeminence eyes.

For a moment, my sub-minds combine, and I look through the wavelengths surrounding me, sliding into that cold state when I was surrounded by hundreds of dolls, not knowing which one would launch an attack on me.

And then there it is. Something I almost can't even explain, but my hand moves ahead, and I grab the neck of the invisible guy and disrupt the field, revealing a human man. His dagger moves to stab my heart, but I concentrate my defensive layer there, and it bounces off. Then a pulse of my mana disrupts the projectiles I had already seen through.

I quickly let go of the human assassin as he swings to cut off my arm, and I fly back. He is about to slide back into invisibility when he notices an inscription I drew with my blood on the back of his neck while holding him, as I was unable to cause him more damage with just my physical stats.

But before he can do anything, the inscription sizzles, fueled by the hyper-condensed mana in my blood, and explodes.

The blast is much bigger than expected.

The shockwave and the pulse fill the cube, bouncing off the walls and almost throwing me away, even as I raise a barrier around myself. That barrier also stops multiple projectiles, but opening both of my eyes, I lock my gaze on the selari man who has been shooting them at me the entire time. Next to him, one of his projectiles halts, then turns around and stabs into him.

Before he can do more, Prince Kip's laser cuts him in half.

I see a vyssari thrown by Vic fly through the air, missing one arm and holding his belly to stop his guts from falling out. I shoot my lance at him, but it freezes just when it is about to hit him.

"Ozrantisixelevkeks's one-time life-save gift that an audience member bought has been used!" Melek shouts.

So I shoot another projectile, but the vyssari avoids it, and his body regenerates quickly just as Victoria crashes against him. And even as he shows incredible strength and his single punch pierces a hole through her body, she grabs his shoulders and almost tears him into two pieces before his bracelet activates.

Only one opponent remains, a feylith man who has spent the entire battle focusing mental attacks on Prince Kip. But the prince resists them all, pinning the man in place with both hands clamped on the sides of his head. Trapped in the grip, the feylith can only continue to unleash desperate, frantic mental attacks at the vyssari.

And then Prince Kip's eyes glow as two lasers shoot ahead, melting off the feylith's eyes and face, before his bracelet activates as well.

No one likes mind mages.

"And just like that, we have our victors!" Melek bellows. "Congratulations to everyone who placed their bets on Prince Kip and the Royal Bloodline! But the real question is... how will they handle their next opponent?"

A specific hallway lights up, drawing your eyes and forcing your attention toward a shadowy figure walking through it. Just a few more steps and one final turn, and he will be upon us. Having seen a few of his fights, I know the next match will be much harder.

Euris takes his final steps, keeping his eyes locked on us, as Prince Kip’s eyes begin to glow.

Then the wall shuts, cutting off the man from the path towards us.

"No, no, we can't have all the best fights happen just yet!" Melek laughs. "But don't be disappointed. Follow me, and see what..."

Another hallway lights up somewhere in the distance where Melek leads the spectators, but I don't take my eyes off the man in shadow, intently staring our way. The glow of his red dagger intensifies, and with incredible speed, he stabs it into the wall, causing even Melek in the distance to shut up.

A crack spreads through the wall separating us, the one that had remained completely undamaged throughout the fights, but in the end, it holds, and Euris begins to walk away.

As he takes a few steps, two white lasers strike the exact spot of the crack, widening it, and Euris halts. But even then, the wall endures, and the shadow shrouded man heads to hunt another opponent.

Thirty percent. Thirty percent. Thirty percent.

Maybe thirty-one?

No, no, thirty percent.

Thirty percent.

Thirty percent.

Thirty percent.

I keep repeating this mantra as I watch it all, and then both me and Prince Kip follow Victoria. A few minutes later, we pass through the first door into the inner area of the cube, heading toward the black room at the center.

Our Bloodline’s bond was unbreakable. Me, the vyssari with laser eyes, my sister, and later some random guys we picked up along the way just to get the door open for us. We had spared them, we brought them in, clothed them, and fed them.

And how did they repay us?

Obviously, by secretly working with another group and attempting to sneakily take out Prince Kip. After all, he is the strongest one here. The other two are just tutorial attendees.

Everyone knows of the advantages the tutorial and Beyond offer. Just how much they can supercharge and speed up your growth. Everyone knows that only the best your planet offers are selected. There isn't a participant who didn't meet a person from the First Generation, someone who went through Hell difficulty or Beyond as well. These people are often still Champions, and likely their Absolute is one of them. Many decades after the tutorial, they are now settled, being powerful family heads, leaders, warriors, and such.

But me and Vic don’t even have 4 years under our belt. Out of everyone here, we spent the shortest time in the system. No one expects much. So what if Melek introduces me as the head of the Primordial Knights, which even people outside the tutorial know as one of the recurring top guilds of Beyond. So what if Victoria was declared an Absolute candidate by an imitation of The Ancient Monster, Eladore’s Shadow.

I think you can't get to where any of us are if you aren't a bit cocky and confident in yourself. Of course, we are looked down upon to the point that even Melek mentions my disappointing performance a few times.

But Vic continues to prove herself to be scary. During all these fights, and ever since the start of the Games. Now, she saves Prince Kip from a concerted effort to kill him. She creates duplicate after duplicate to the point that even Melek excitedly shouts it has been a long time since he saw such an impressive mind.

And even the biggest assholes have to acknowledge she is truly something else as she stands there surrounded by piles of flesh and blood, most of which are her own. The crowd goes wild, a deafening sound, Melek finally allows us participants to hear. Many millions, maybe billions of people on thousands of planets watching the Game, and the cheers of live spectators present on this planet as they chant Victoria’s name.

For me, it might seem like they had only a few days to build up to the Game, but on the outside, weeks and months had passed. Most of the participants already had previous interviews and entire episodes dedicated to them, giving a glimpse into the lives of the crowd's favorites. Sad stories were told, goals revealed, and charming personalities were carefully brought to light by Melek for the galaxy to see.

Me and Vic are intruders into all of it. We are new, with almost no info available on us. Barely a novelty.

Not much is expected from us, as the last tutorial victor was Adrian, and he won almost a thousand years ago. A talented Absolute that is nowadays nowhere to be seen, so they couldn't even interview him. Lost in history between so many powerful ones appearing each year.

For the audience, it is difficult to like either of us, as we just appeared out of nowhere and either personally or indirectly caused the elimination and some deaths of some smaller, popular, underdog participants.

Yet, they can’t help but roar for my sister, who stands there as nonchalant as death. An unkillable goddess with a mind forged in iron.

But I know they would cheer the same if someone unexpected took us all out.

People are fickle just like that.

What’s scary is Nat is at a broken 30% and is still in the top 1000 I wonder if he was fixed for him if he could have broken the glass house by himself

TheOne320

How many chapters do you guys think before he can go all out? I hope it is not in the last match.

Thien T

"I know it will be just a bit longer before I can stretch my metaphorical wings and test these changes with proper oomph." Yes, just a bit longer and you can stretch those majestic, self-destructive, spontaneously immolating wings and framemog them all, Freebirdthaniel.

Gio

My guess it that eventually Nathaniel's body will be made out of pure mana, his constitution will be zero and his mana stat will effectively function as constitution. Maybe [Mana Body] trait, or maybe [Mana Being] or [Mana Existence]

AL

I have a feeling Nat won't go all out during this event to avoid revealing his new strength to Adrian

Manaless

Nat using Ultra Instinct, GOAT.

Levi

Cerim is holding off on Nats recovery just so he can say "I've only been using 30% of my power" at some pivotal moment

The 49th Khan

If his body ends up being made of pure mana with no flesh, Lily is going to be pissed she can't heal him.

Lance Beam

TFTC. I feel like Nat's understated way of explaining his restraint is more effective at building the hype than Melek's.

Lizy Flore

Oh definitely, this mantra he was repeating to himself ? It was so he would not attempt to break the wall, as it would require him to go over his 30% limits. At least, that’s how i read it

Gio

Her skill is "Heal" (or something like it), not "Heal only physical bodies". Lily's healing working depends on how she interprets her skill.

Mint

Anyone else think Nat is going to try to kill an absolute before reaching level 450? I have noticed that he is not killing people/ not gaining levels recently, and after lissandra’s comment about her being able to kill an absolute from today’s era before becoming a champion, I think his pride is pushing him towards this goal. He is in a heavily damaged state and using 30% power, but is able to fight a champion. I think after recovering he can pull off an absolute. But this is only if he pulls off another fight like his first champion. Perfect matchup and a lot of prep.

Konrad Pagacz

her skill is Reconstruct actually

Konrad Pagacz

that was absolutely amazing. Our guy developed a sense for killing intent

Matthew Hay

Classic shonen trope, gotta pay respect at some point

CrypticAnon

I think his fragment is all the prep he needs for Adrian. I can only see himself holding back for training or some kind of mega ego pride mog moment.

Conroy

Maybe I'm wrong but I think a lot of people are overestimating Nat's current lvl of strength. Nat has yet to fight a true champion in a 1 on 1 fight and I don't think he's on that lvl yet. I'm not sure if it's stated definitively but the champion they fought on the 5th floor is likely reanimated like the lurkers. Both Nat and Lorien mention the lurker clone wasn't able to showcase Lorien's full strength. I think it's safe to assume the champion wasn't either if I'm correct about it being reanimated. Then we have to take into account that Nat near fully countered the 5th floor champions core abilities and had the help of Weslin, Morwag and several other guild members. They still suffered casualties and Nat says afterwards he couldn't have won without their help.

Scraser

"Shadow guy Euris" Cerim is reading Shadow slave

Mint

Since his first kill against a champion, Nat has received more stats, ALOT more skill levels, and many trait upgrades (it’s been a while but I’m pretty sure he even got the blood trait). His skill levels will also continue to have growth for a while. As for overestimating him, he is fighting people close to becoming champions while having his body transformed, having incompatible constructs, most likely his passives and actives are not at peak performance, and he is only using 30% power. If he uses 100% I think he low champion. After he fixes himself up, peak-mid to low-high champion. After he is finished speed-leveling and using another trait upgrade, I think he will be a high champion comfortably, but still not able to compete with top level champions. (High champion might be a push).

Sammot

I think [Mana Embodiment] sounds better or [Embodiment of Mana]

Sammot

I agree, he is at most very low champion, people overestimate the kill on the champion he did. That was purely because of the overwhelming advantage of black mana against a champion that litteraly only had mana and completely overrelied on it. No other technique or skill. If the champion had anytjing besides mana he would have stomped them then. He is nowhere near beinh able to match an absolute, the build up now is nath beating a champion one on one he doesn't have overwhelming advantage on before lv 450, like I assume nyssa did.

Arme nd

Nat about to pull a rock lee when he lifts his restrainings in the final.

U

Do we know Nysa's level? Now or before champion fight? And wasn't there some explanation of Champions on fifth level? I think that they are true but weak champions.

Budgie

31%, just once :) Maybe 32? ;)

cpt jimmy

Nat being Nat, he'll probably say something like: "Hey Vic, can I use more than 30% now?"

CallMeTee

"A specific hallway lights up, drawing your eyes and forcing your attention toward a shadowy figure walking through it." -- weird POV shift here...

Kevin

Replacing his brain and body with one of mana is awfully close to cloning himself and killing the old him. While becoming pure mana sounds cool and thematic, I don’t think he’ll go for it. I really don’t know though, he might.

Kevin

Someone like Envy or Adrian could see through him and estimate his actual power and ability in an instant. Some things might be hard without mind mage stuff, but they can easily determine his stats, skills, skill levels, traits, fragments, and energy levels.

Gio

I don't think Nat is opposed to replacing parts of himself; he's doing that constantly anyway, or changing himself so much it doesn't make a difference. I think he's just opposed to there being two of him (that are not in his control at any rate)

Tarback

It seemer he was guessing it would take 31% but he promised Vic he wouldnt go over 30%

Tarback

My guess (my hope) is its gonna be the Thursday cliff

Kevin

The numbers don’t add up for a lot of this. Sure he’s starting to be around the skill levels of a champion in one or two skills. He’s absolutely no where NEAR anything approaching absolute though. Any absolute will have more levels, a better body, more stats, stronger passives, stronger traits, more powerful skills, more experience and power using them, a more powerful mind, and just about more of everything else. They will also probably have their second attribute upgrade. Any absolute can be expected to have killed or bested countless champions. Nat hasn’t killed 1 real champion yet. So I really don’t think he’ll be surviving any encounter with an absolute, much less winning.

Krzychu0304

It just occurred to me; if craftsmen get experience for deeds done with weapons of their making, shouldn't Nat get experience for things Liss did with a black mana dagger?

Andrew

Thank you!!

Hms

This whole ripping people in half thing makes me wonder if her or Jean has more strength. I would obviously take Vic in a 1v1 fight since she can take him out with numbers, but would love a peek at the stats screen of the two just to see who invested more in it.

Ivan Jelenić

If he's smart, he won't say the exact percentage. It can be used to assess his total strength.

Ivan Jelenić

Only if a mana weapon is considered an actual real crafted weapon.

thisisniall

Absolute would require insane contrived circumstances, I don’t see it happening. He’d need a basically perfect matchup and he isn’t actively avoiding gaining levels at the moment really - if he was he’d probably have not done the Boys trip. Nat frankly doesn’t have the skills for it yet. Hes got a ton of potential and momentum and growth rate but he needs time to translate it into power. That said, I can see him soloing one of the champions on the 5th floor once he’s had a little more time to digest Liss’s training and fully recover if he doesn’t get the levels to hit 450 on this quest.

Ivan Jelenić

It's not a POV shift, it's a general statement. But sure, there's other ways to say the same.

Ivan Jelenić

I just realized Vic has to feel the full pain of all those bodies getting injured and destroyed. That is scary if she can endure all that without showing any reaction. Unless some skill supresses the pain.

Sean

I think a lot of you are underestimating the training he did with Lissandra. Im quite sure she didn’t pull a single punch. I’m not saying he’d be able to beat an Absolute right now, but he wouldn’t die to one either. He should be able to beat a champion on the fourth(?) floor by himself now. He was heavily damaged against Nyssa. Lissandra killed the Ruler of Envy without a mana heart. Is Nat there? No. But he can tank hits that would put down a (weak) ruler, I should think. I suspect that last exercise was to train that. Lissandra should know he’s going to need it and would have had no reason to go easy on him in his mind space after warning him of the danger. I think that adaptive skill is going to make him a true cockroach and he’s going to hit 90 in mana manipulation before he leaves the tutorial. Adrian won’t stand a chance.

Nictis

He didn't craft it in the system view, it's not an item with his name attached. It's 'just' reshaped mana.

Griffin Boustead

Ngl Im hoping for really big bomb in maleeks face

QuestiGoose

“Vic, when can i start trying?”

zoarian

Can't wait for the moment when Nat gets serious. He takes off his shoes, rolls up his sleeves and then just obliterate everyone

Seijax

Nice for Victoria to get a nice stage for a change, but this whole turnament thing is irksome and i can't wait for Nat to recover and FuckShitUp™

Seijax

30% effort is a pretty nebulous thing. It's not 30% Mana amount. Also he's still improving

Kevin

Yeah, that tracks. Back on the 5th floor when he had a clone, his clone didn’t care about the original. He didn’t care about some other version of himself living. He wanted he himself to continue on and live. After how that ended he swore he’d never clone himself or let himself be cloned like that again. If he views becoming mana as him dying and a new him starting, I don’t think he’ll go for it. If he sees it as a form of modification then I think he might go for that.

Kirin

Thank you for the chappie!

Kevin

Uh, no. He can’t tank ruler grade hits. Where the heck did you get that idea? Rulers can see and manipulate the tutorial. Nat is comically far from that. 2 years of mind only learning won’t let Nat bridge the gap like that. He just said he’s weaker than Nyssa. He and his sister just struggled against a champion grade beast. Any absolute would obliterate them. Hell he said Tacita had good odds of beating him in a surprise. So what about them? If Nat is so omnipotent and ahead of everything, why is he behind Nyssa and confident Tacita might beat him.

Gio

That's also happening anyway, unless you're frozen in time. There are no changes in "kind" only "amount". Anyway, this is a bit philosophical :p

Austin Barton

Tacita is his natural counter like he was to the mana champion first off so it makes sense he thinks she “MIGHT” be able to beat him. Second Lissandra has been grooming nat since floor 2 of the tutorial to become the true mana tyrant. I do not think anyone below absolute that primarily uses mana can beat him at 100%. However I do believe he is nowhere near ruler level because that’s magnitudes higher power than an absolute which is why there is so much variance in the strength of absolutes. Same with champions to absolutes.

Tercius

I would absolutely love to see Nathanael's full character chart before he can give 110% again. So hyped for him to get going again. \(≧▽≦)/

U

Jean should have way more. Vic should have a more rounded build while Jean is a third monostat enjoyer

Memelord Steambath

I dont think Nat needs to purposely harm himself for this adaptive skill to work...he already does that plenty enough already xD

PigNebula

I kind of like the idea of him simply getting the trait [Mana]. Like he and Mana become inseparable on a conceptual level, he is Mana and Mana is him.

Hms

That what I originally thought but that damage to the Griffin and this whole ripping high rankers in half makes me wonder what their states really are. Guessing she splits her stats between strength and mana with her whole duplication thing so Jean probably higher.

Al

I’d be shocked if she didn’t have focus or something similar.

Gutz

Bro is Aura farming with his 30% :D

emerad _

I hate thisss I need nat to go crazy on someone this instant!!!!!!! rahhhh!!!!!!! surely he can do some crazy aura farming shit with only 30% and then triple it later pleassse

C

they are both referred to as focus types in a prior chapter. it has been confirmed already.

C

pretty sure in prior chapters she is said to have very high constitution as well.

C

he never soloed a champion before and the champion he faced on the fifth was still early champion by level. Regarding Nyssa though, he hasn't faced her without severe limitations to his strength. Post mana vessel application, he could probably fight to a draw with her.

C

what would happen if his body was disrupted by someone on the level of Greed or Lissandra though?

Ivan Jelenić

Sure, it might not be linear, but then him using percentage would be kinda wrong too. And you have to consider there's trillions of super advanced and smart aliens that lived forever and have civilizations longer than Earth existed. So calculating something like that shouldn't be a problem for them.

Mitch

I can't wait until he starts fucking shit up again.

Caramellato

Damnit! I’ve almost caught up. My rail is almost snorted

Caramellato

Yeaaaaah. I’m’a need the coordinates to ya throat, for jinxin’ us, like that… Greed DAMNIT Corey!

Caramellato

I don’t think anything LISSANDRA did would be considered “just” reshaped mana. It could arguably be considered a collaborative effort, with Liss doing most of the ‘shaping’ and Nat most providing material and its base shape (which she did correct as her Pride won’t allow it to be so ugly 😂) I’d argue there’s potential there depending on whatever tf she does to it that Nat still doesn’t seem capable of detecting or comprehending, with Greed only calling it “ ridiculous” whether she comprehends or not, Meric knows *shruggies*

Madje Tobi Marc'Avent Tchona

Nat is a very unreliable narrator tho... He'll be like "What a very scary person" one chapter and the next chapter absolutely decimate the character. The truth is Nat himself doesn't quite know how strong he is yet. He had a lot of quick growth against Nyssa, and that was literally at almost his worst, while he was just trying to survive and get in some extra gains. Obviously Nyssa wasn't trying either, but Nat hasn't yet consolidated his gains from training with Lissandra... he hasn't had the chance yet to do so, because he was essentially on bedrest this whole time.... All his most powerful attack skills are champion level (redistribution and mana manipulation) and we know that when he uses his vessel he is able to channel all of his mana giving him a bigger boost of power. He has a number of powerful traits that he has just upgraded and finished acclimating towards, a number of which are known to increase the potency of his skills, such as empyrean blood and mana vessel or whatever. He has this ability to essentially take away everybody's mana based skills with either his eyes or eclipse or black mana ( which is basically every skill other than reinforcement type skills or other internal skills, or fragment/primordial type skills) not to mention that when he uses black mana to power his skills they are significantly more powerful.... and all of this is not including even him assimilating the teachings of Lissandra yet with his body..... Honestly I thought he was already a low champion before training with Liss but now, it'd be just disappointing if he wasn't already at that level comfortably.... and I haven't even mentioned his fragment.

Conroy

3 chapters later and I will not retract my earlier opinion 😂 He has to be low champion strength at minimum
