Back out of my mental space, I form a few evil pyramids that I continue to use to train.

With my remaining mental capacity, I read the description of one of my two low pristine passives.

Cognitive Hyperprocessing Vector (Low Pristine) - Your cognition gains a compact internal framework vector that reduces thought into a refined conceptual structure. The model allows efficient manipulation of intricate concepts and maintains stability through heavy mental load.

I know I can thank it for a big part in making my mind as durable as it is, yet I also believe that is not all. It might be my arrogance or reasonable delusions, but I think my mind is more durable than it should be based on the rarity of this passive. And damn, this is the hill I am willing to die on.

Still, I do not think I should use that as a base to start caring about passives that make my mind more durable. Even if it is all thanks to a combination of my active skills, possibly traits, a subclass, and some constructs.

I do not plan to replace my healing passive, as I quite like it and it does decently. Well, decently-ish. As much as possible with the state my body is in.

BUT.

If I have a stronger mind, I can handle mental loads and use my skills better, which surely means less damage to the body. Logic like this is just flawless, and I am sure no one could create an argument against something like that.

So that is why, after training, thinking, and scrolling through what seems like most of the system shop multiple times over, there is one passive I really like and think will be a good fit for the combination.

Memory Vault (Low Pristine) - A memory storage state embedded in the subconscious layer. This passive skill requires a continuous expenditure of mana to remain active, with its total capacity scaling proportionally to the user's mana reserves.

It is a simple description and not something that I would need that much. Yes, it would be useful, allowing me to unburden my mental capacity and store my mental constructs, arrays, my triggers, and other things there. With it scaling with mana and based on its rarity, it should allow me to store some insane works.

For example, an array that would deploy, continuously duplicate and grow, pull on ambient mana, expand, modify, and then spread through the entire continent. I would not even need to do it all manually. I would just have to make sure to have enough mana to power it, pull it out of the Vault, and trigger it. Simple as that.

Though, without me being able to modify it on the spot and with how difficult it would be to stop, it could go very, very wrong. I can imagine some asshole messing with it, changing a few bends, and causing that array to explode instead of giving me my desired effect.

I am once again getting caught up in this theorizing. Simply put, I picked it because of the part about scaling with mana. That part is not that common, especially not on the passive skills I would find useful.

So I confirm the pop-up window.

Do you really want to buy the following passive skill for 24,999,999 shards?

Memory Vault (Low Pristine)

Yes / No

I press to confirm, and then a new window pops up.

Insufficient balance.

That causes me to shake my head in surprise, and I swiftly open my status and scroll down.

Shards: 10,881,116

Could I possibly be broke? I would have sworn I was rich.

Is… is this what people mean by lacking liquidity? I became so used to calculating my net worth in assets and investments that I completely overlooked my available shards. And who actually scrolls all the way down every single time?

And were passives always so expensive?

Well, it seems that I will have to make my way to beyond.

POV Talon

It has already been a few weeks since Morwag and Weslin left the tutorial, and a similar amount of time since Nyssa Volare was last seen.

So far, the other guilds have been careful not to provoke ours. Even with his frequent absences, Guildmaster Gwyn is regarded as highly volatile, leaving people uncertain of what to expect from him. He is considered still alive, even after all the craziness that happened with the 11th floor of the tutorial, and his trip with The Boys is already becoming a sort of legend here.

A new manaless zone on the 3rd floor, destroyed healing guild’s headquarters in the 1st City on the 2nd floor, the death of all the lurkers on the 1st floor, and so much more.

I, for example, am enjoying the current situation. All of it is a mess, but it also offers an opportunity, and I made sure my salary scaled to my usefulness. By the end of the tutorial, I will make sure to use my charm and my extremely rare primordial energy that is Stellar Wind to become one of the richest attendees. Hell, I might even combine another set of upper arcane passives. Just how crazy would that be?

“Hey, you,” a voice sounds by my side, and it instantly sends shivers down my back.

Of course I recognize it right away, how could I not? So I force a very polite smile as I turn towards the Guildmaster Gwyn, who stands there out of nowhere.

Just looking at his face instantly annoys me. I do not know what it is, maybe some sort of passive he has, but the sheer arrogance and confidence in it triggers me the wrong way.

I think someone once said that it makes you admire him or even look up to him if you are much weaker, but once you get to a certain power level where you are one of the stronger people around, just seeing it makes you angry.

And my words reflect that, almost against my will. “Did you forget my name again?” I blabber out in a harsher tone than I expected.

“T-” he starts, narrowing his eyes. He looks less like he's struggling to remember and more like he's calculating his best exit strategy, before tossing out a quick save, “Big T. That’s what I always called you.”

“You never called me that.”

“I did. In my hearts. Okay, look, I am busy, my pirate friend owes me money, so I have planned a meeting with her soon. I already met with Duncan, and he said he put the fishing cash into some Local Safekeeping Account for the rich where I can get them out. You have to tell me where I could find that place.”

“It is on the same street as the headquarters of the top guilds. Small blue building with one window and a door.”

“See, it was not that difficult, Big T.”

“Please do not call me that.”

“While I go to get my shards from my pirate, ask the vice guild master if he could give me my annual salary a bit earlier. Also, ask him about my bonuses. You can read through my contract and try to get as much as possible out of him. I think I had clauses where the better the guild did, the higher my salary gets.”

“Do you know Morwag stole that low pristine armor you guys got from Eternal Clowns and left the tutorial with it?”

“Well, I am not surprised." He says, entirely unbothered, "So, will you do it?”

“What do I get?” I ask him.

“That is the Big T I know. 50,000 shards?”

“100 thousand if I get you much more than you expect.”

“Sounds like we have a deal. Oh, and also tell him that I want to sell some items. Ex-corporation owned cool stuff and such. I left them in the closet near my room and put some defenses around it, but you can use this orb to unlock it. If you lose the orb, do not even get close to the door, I do not know how big the explosion range is.”

“S-sure.”

“There should be some Talnium and other fancy stuff. Have them appraised so I can have some base price to negotiate with those three maniacs from Crimson Forge. Also, send this information to all guilds that have gathered information on Champions on the 5th floor. I am requesting this info, and in exchange, I'll give them some valuable items, materials, or the Primordial Knights will trade some of our own intel with them. Don't share it too much, but if the info's good, I'm willing to hand a key to a few of them. If they refuse, tell them I will be declaring guild war on them all, and going after them personally.”

Words get stuck in my throat as I watch him. I hope, trying to see somewhere on his face, that he is not serious. I try to make sense of what he just said.

The guildmaster notices my hesitation because he says, “Yeah, it must sound like a lot of work. So how about you get 1% of it all? We can raise it later if you do a good job or if it ends up being too little. It should be a decent amount of shards and make it worth your time.”

He even seems satisfied with himself. Like he is some genius that grasped human psyche and can now entirely control people.

He is slimmer than when I previously met him, scarred, and there is no mana emanating from him. It is like he does not have any at all. And as always, he carries no weapons, wears no armor, and even his primordial energies are nowhere to be seen.

Currently, he looks like a normal human, probably even ill. Yet every one of his movements is anything but that. They look like there is no hesitation in them. It is hard to describe, but it is like they are unstoppable? Like even if the entire mountain fell on him, he would move the same without even noticing it?

And those eyes… the divine golden light trying to peek from behind the pitch black of his pupils.

More than any of the demons I met, he scares me. Not because he is unpredictable or might snap at any moment without warning. No, it is the knowledge that once he decides to do something, to move, I will not be able to do anything to stop him.

“We have a deal,” I get out of myself and smile.

All of this is useless, of course. His kinetic and thermal senses are well known at this point. He likely reads my emotions through changes in my body, noticing my fear as if I were an open book. Yet he does not even seem to try to use it to his advantage and just behaves in his usual way.

When he reaches out his hand towards me, I reach out with mine and shake it.

Then I mutter, “Did you say fucking Talnium?”

That day, all the requests from the Primordial Knights for information on the Champions on the 5th floor are sent all over beyond.

Bloodline, Silent Veil, Frontier, and Crimson Forge accept the request, with some putting up a few more reasonable requirements.

Multiple guilds reject it at first, but after noticing these top guilds accepting right away, many change their minds that very same day. Some try to ask for better terms, but all of these requests are rejected.

One of the relatively new guilds in the top 10 still rejects it, and just a few hours later, a figure appears floating over their headquarters. With a crown over his head, he gives a timeline of one hour, which the guild uses to set up defenses, hoping to stop him or hoping that the Handlers or Pathfinder Thane might interfere.

No help comes.

There are many descriptions of what follows, though most describe it as pure tyranny. Not caring about his image, the image of his guild, or the other S rank defending the guild, the Guild Master of the Primordial Knights takes barely a minute to break through all the defenses.

The scale of the damage is strictly restricted to the guild, with him even stopping their attacks from reaching further. All of the headquarters is destroyed, entirely. All decades old defenses crushed, all mana batteries drained of their mana, and incredible materials slashed through.

Even then, even with all that scale, not a single pulse of mana spreads through the city. Not a single person dies either, all of them are left disarmed and some wounded, but alive.

An effortless dismantling of their pride, revealing how utterly outmatched they were and how they failed to even register as threats worth destroying.

After it all, he still promises to keep his offered deal.

It was not that long ago when some people started theorizing that the rankings of the current crop of beyonders were inaccurate.

Nyssa Volare is widely considered way beyond the reach of even the most powerful S ranks, along with the man called Christoph, who appeared out of nowhere and blazed through beyond.

Nathaniel Gwyn is like them, and he still has more than a year and a half remaining in his tutorial. His achievements and powers are well known, and no attendee can ignore that one fact.

To stand before him is to know that if he wills it, your mana belongs to him.

And so, more and more people began to view the three of them as anomalies. Outliers outside the rankings and each of them a tyrant in their own way.

Monsters waiting to be let out of a cage disguised as a tutorial.

Mint

TFTC. I’m sure no one could argue that his skills damage his body more than other people. What a ridiculous accusation.

ChildConsumerServices

Personally not a fan of the SS or EX rank, slightly too generic, i think a title showing just how Beyond the ranks they are Maybe something like Insane rank? Mentally Unstable Rank? You need professional help Rank? idk just spitballing

Raven

SSS rank

RockLeMillion

(Edit) this is talking about nat attacking but it is saying it as if he is the one being attacked: he attacks the Guild Master of the Primordial Knights,

Dr.Awkward

I agree with this. It should be a rank that is both insulting and a warning to other people. I think Nyssa and Nat should find it both annoying and useful somehow. That would be the perfect ranking imo

Broke Boy

I like SS better than EX or S+ anyways 🤣. Don’t think Nathaniel would like them either !

HeadpatsOnly

i like the SS rank but i feel like it’s reveal or first mention was somewhat underwhelming? either way it’s definitely something that should exist as the gaps between certain S ranks, like those mentioned are definitely prominent enough for a higher rank to be assigned to them.

Strings

Yeah SS makes sense

Nathan moi

Thanks for the chap. SS is cool as far as rankings goes, but it also imply the existence of the truly super duper more cool rank of SSS no ? I know one Corgi who's already there tho

RockLeMillion

I feel like SS is typically only used in settings that go further and also have SSS. It doesn't really have the connotation of being the highest rank in litrpg or progression based fiction imo. I would argue for either EX, SSS, or a complete title that isn't just rank letters.

Nobyys

SS should be replaced by "A guy with severe mana deficiency escaping parental responsabilities and some randoms that he will beat later"

Fin

Hard no on the SS rank.

Drunkgnome

SS is a believable way that people in this world would describe them being a cut above S rank, but that only makes sense if they expect to welcome any others into the fold. If they fully expect those three to remain a cut above then you could probably have more fun with it and give it a unique name. The 3 disasters or something of a similar Ilk.

Drunkgnome

The only thing is that fraudrian is already gone and Nyssa shouldn’t have that much left. Basically Nat is gonna be terrorizing beyond all on his lonesome for at least a year. Then once is tutorial ends he will just go right back with the token 😂

Vojtěch Quis

Both EX and S+ at least for me sound better, I think? Mostly due to the SS ranking invoking a shudder of dread from cheap system isekai slop. For me the S+ is the best, it feels like they are stil S class but better then the rest of them while the SS makes them new class all together. At least it feels like difference between normal person Vs champion. Maybe when Nathaniel becomes champion in the tutorial or kills all possible targets in beyond he should qualify for SS class

karmaslap

>Not caring about his image, the image of his guild, or the other S rank defending the guild, he attacks the Guild Master of the Primordial Knights, the Mana Tyrant Nathaniel Gwyn, takes a minute to break through all the defenses. You should fix this sentence, it's poorly structured even if we can understand whats being said

Gavin

Maybe no rank or rank less? SS kinda insinuates a SSS rank just because of other systems that have followed thay pattern. Null rank? Idk.

Apollo

Maybe instead of going the route of SS or SSS ranks, what about giving it a title for this exclusive group of individuals. The titles could be The Echelon, Singularities, Ascendents or Eclipse. Something that just makes it known that they stand above all those below them by a wide margin.

Nicholas Pankratz

Maybe a new symbol entirely like a star ⭐️ or skull 💀? SS seems too simple, like they’re Super Special instead of just Special. Especially considering how OP some of these characters can be and how rare it is to have a tutorial with people getting to this extreme level

Marco Tertulliani

I don't mind SS rank, it is widely used and gets to the point

Oztharon

Tftc 🍻 I'm fine with SS rank. Maybe by the end of the tutorial Nat will be the first SSS rank attendee.

Gio

SS rank is nics if you plan on having even more ranks like SSS or such. In this case, just calling it "beyond S rank" would be enough imo.

tost

@cerim: Regarding the SS-rank... i know what you mean and honestly, i think this whole S -> SS -> SSS thingy is pretty ridiculous. Thats what you get for messing up the scale in the first place - should've just started with A as the lowest XD. But it's so common in other stories and genres. Because it's so normal, i don't think people will even notice the "SS" problem like you think. But i do like your S+ idea, as long as you're sure it won't turn into S++ and so on.

Matheus Philipe

Personally, I liked the SS classification, though EX levels seem more fitting for the cockroach—since, the way I see it, EX comes after SSS. Maybe Nat reaches that power level by the end of the tutorial if he achieves everything he's aiming for. Come to think of it, S would be a tier below "Champion," SS would be "Champion" level, SSS would be "Absolute," and EX would be a "Ruler" level... I don't know, it makes sense in my head.

Kelto

Didn't Nat had a low pristine passive token?

Blaumandele

Thanks for the Chapter as always !! Why not use EX - extrem

Blaumandele

Or something silly like EP - Extrem Person.

xXFLorimXx

Hey, a German here to hopefully lift your worries. When I read SS rank I didn't think of the group but the natural advance from S rank. Maybe it's because you wrote "rank" directly behind it

Thien T

Just skip the over the SS entirely. Rumors has it that Korean Tutorial Attendees dubbed this incident the 'Tyranny of the SSS Rank Mana Maniac'.

Unfortunate Tractor

A title for the untouchable SS would be better or a number for all that have reached that level. Continuing the whole top of s or top of ss could be sidelined by the 1st,2nd,3rd of all beyonders, even that has problems. maybe they simply no longer have a category or general titles. those that surpass such categories are given unique status/title instead possibly. BIG DAWG, GIVE ME THE PUPPER BACK.

Lance Beam

TFTC. I think they should be referred to as the three tyrants. Mana, Weapon and that other one.

DaWykitat

It should be R ranked for RUN.

Lizy Flore

“There are many descriptions of what follows, though most describe it as pure tyranny. Not caring about his image, the image of his guild, or the other S rank defending the guild, he attacks the Guild Master of the Primordial Knights, the Mana Tyrant Nathaniel Gwyn, takes a minute to break through all the defenses.” This paragraph is a bit weird, it lacks punctuation or something.

MannaDaddy

Most shows and books I know skip SSand go straight to SSS probably because it would be a little suspicious if Nathaniel "joined the ranks of the SS" lol. EX seems a little silly, S+ is better but a little bland. I think it would be better if Nathaniel came up with his own rank name and spread it around like it was everyone else's idea and he was just letting you know.

Nemesis

SS rank is standard, nothing wrong with it and only people who are completely disconnected from the content would make any correlation with the Gestapo

Mdage

Z or Zero Rankers. DB fans would love it 😆 Seriously though, SS is a bit on the nose and EX or S+ are very generic. Maybe just “The Rankers”

Ralph

TFTC! Nat has to upgrade his mental passive before he can comprehend that he's a father Also I prefer S as the pinnacle. Perhaps the collective thought of the beyond attendees could be the comparative downgrade of the other seven S ranks. 3 have raised the standard of what it means to be S rank!

Muntu Omnyama

I’m sure the boys would want to make fun of an S EX ranking

Augustus

Moon Rank! Also known as Loonies or lunatics!

John

Will it be a unique pristine mental Passive? 😋

Ben Patterson

Guild leader Gwyn, super sport edition

Twmmy

So BS for short? I agree that it would sound better and there would not be any surprise later of finding someone with SSS. And BS would both annoy and please him lol

Terri Harris

SS as a classification is not offensive, & is a totally acceptable way to indicate a person beyond S rank. He's got a year to inspire the reintroduction of the mythical SSS rank. Last, (& only) previous holder being a certain diligent ant. Poor Big T. his boss can't afford the extra mental strain of remembering his name. Fun chapter! Thank you!

ariel maoz

What about Omega Ω? Its the final letter and we have already established the system translation is about meaning with how the names of dilli vessels are translated, it is also has the meaning of highest or with most gravity

Wondergaurdian

Great chapter love the story. Abnormal rank would be hilarious and would give nat plenty of room to complain about how "normal" he is.

RJ Barnes

You can the rank whatever you want as it gets the point across - and it’s common enough that people understand it. Every doors being too nitpicky on a novel that has no right being this good

RJ Barnes

You can name the rank whatever you want as it gets the point across - and it’s common enough that people understand it. Every doors being too nitpicky on a novel that has no right being this good

John

Why is he not using the low pristinr passive skill token, but rather buy one for 25mil?

ethanskorpionX

Ehh. I don’t mind SS, but I feel like you should do like JJK, and say that even amongst the powerful and rare S-rank, some rise above to the rank of calamity/disaster (also used in tensura). Would show just how powerful they are, and the scope of their powers, rivaling, surpassing even, that of a champion, though they aren’t one themselves. But SS-rank works just fine!

Flo Zilla

I would go with "More and more call them actual chamions" . Champion Gwyn etc..

John

exactly

ethanskorpionX

He just put an ',' instead of a point after 'he attacks'. It woulf go like this -Not caring about his image, the image of his guild, or the other S rank defending the guild, he attack. The Guild master of… ect.

Jeb

Agree with you there, a rank or title would be better.

Jean Kevin

what about just pristine rank ?

J W

I think since the rank will be uncommon you should use -- instead. Almost like beyond isnt supposed to have champions from the tutorial but since they are of champion grade they can't be categorized.

mitchell kaiser

I think the SS thing should be fine. But honestly the POV chapters of how ridiculous Nat is give me life. Thanks Cerim!

Miranoji

Just leave it as S Rank and let others refer to them as Suizide Ranked. Mess with them and your life or your wealth and building is forfeit.

Tanean

Beyond rank? As the same principle as it is beyond the normal top difficulty (hell), it is beyond the top rank (S) Might be too cheesy though

Miranoji

Or BS Rank - Beyond S Rank haha

Alexikon

My idea would be instead of SS, it could be BS. Nathaniel thinks it is "Beyond S" Rank and others call it "Bullshit" Rank.

Simon Bak

I would go with S+ instead of SS.

Florin Cojocaru

Not really having an opinion either way on the SS topic. It does however bring to mind the 'outside context problem' formulation from The Culture.

Rene Duvall

Gotta love the not so subtle glaze other POVs give nat when describing him. Always entertaining to read. TFTC!!

M van Dongen

Call it Double S ( DS ). Tripple S ( TS ). Etcetc.

Predyca

Tbh SS doesn't mean the same nowadays as it did then. Gatcha and System Novels changed the meaning too much. Its just a standard rank at this point in time.

Alex

Thx for the chappie. No idea about SS or anything, cant wait to see more about it and finally see the passive combination haha

Dan

SS is super generic and leads to SSS which doesn't seem reasonable here. I like the idea of an unofficial (non system) title that's just calling them lunatics in some way. I think the system has likely seen people similar enough to Nyssa and Nat in the past that it would have listed something beyond S before now. So it makes sense that the system doesn't care to separate the ranks any further. But a title for "stay the heck away from that guy at all costs" would be funny

Gutz

Suggestion: S, SS, SSS, L, EX. And the tyrant should chill before he gets his ass kicked.

FanciestCrab

Just rank them Beyond, as they are beyond an S rank and it plays to where they are and all.

bltth26

The SS rank fits the story. Besides the German SS wasn’t a rank so much as a division name. Or even sort of a secret society. Not quite the same as what you’re using it for.

tyhuko

The Beyond S aka BS rank (bullshit for short) people mentioned in the comments is perfect. Glad you left it to the commenters

Galenorla

I don't get why people seem to object to the name SS rank. If people are so put off by it, just call it 'pinnacle rank' or something

Kazith

RBaR or Rank Beyond all Ranks, or Rubber Rank which would piss Nat off. Rebar, who came up with this stupid rank? Dilli is a good ant.

Sean

Don't super like it. Mostly because S was meant to be Champion candidate or higher already. Saying SS implies that there is some higher ceiling for them, but we already know Absolute and Ruler is the ceiling. If anything, I'd say that Nyssa, Nat, and Christoph should redefine what S rank means. Kind of like 'there's S rank and then there is *S* rank'. Some people barely qualify and those three are the top of the rank. Giving them a new, higher, rank feels like everyone else is just coping.

Joran Spans

they should call them ''weapons of mass destruction'' ;d

ChildConsumerServices

@Augustus does that mean an encounter with a Moon rank would be called 'getting mooned'?

Ivan Jelenić

SS is good. It's clear what it is from the context.

Ivan Jelenić

No, omega is far worse. For multiple reasons.

Ivan Jelenić

Can't wait for Talon to get his perspective on what "rich" is changed. Can't wait for his reaction on the amount of money and when he realizes it's for the Low Pristine passive, maybe even a combination of them.

Roy Mathews

What about they no longer use the rank and go only by their earned nickname? Mana Tyrant rank ???

Yells@Clouds

Pretty much my first thought on seeing SS too.

Blooper

Definitely S-hole rank, for sure. Also, didn't Nat also have 1 Low-Pristine passive token, besides the Low-Pristine combination one? Or maybe I'm just making it up...

M Schweibold

The SS moniker makes it seem system nomenclature which should have already been disclosed. Since there is already a very wide power distribution with all the classes including ruler, I agree that a slang term (like “Ludicrous” ala Tesla is more appropriate) versus seemingly adding a new layer of system terminology.

JTP

If nothing else I like the idea of using a title gather than a rank. This is a very exclusive group, there are fewer members than Rulers. To stand before him is to know that if he wills it, your mana belongs to him. And so, more and more people speak of the new addition to the ranks of the Peerless.

arnumart

I do Nazi group 4 nit making jokes about the SS, all of them but Izzy are assholes.

YaBoiiSloth

Yeah I didn't think about that until I saw a comment mentioning it lol

Nebulous

Doesn't Nat have a low pristine token he could have used? Or am I misremembering? Also, I think S+ would be better than SS, unless there is an SSS rank.

TBONEMAN

If you arent planning to make an sss rank then ex rank should be fine. Ex rank is basically something that cant be properly calculated and nyssa is gone so you cant compare them. You could also use z rank. Maybe just call them unofficial champions and make them UC ranked.

Ryan Whitney

Make it G rank for God rank so technically it's above S rank but it makes it sound like it's below F rank

conkerer

The only reason why not Beyond S rank is because they are already in Beyond Hell Difficulty, so in total it would be the Beyond S rank of Beyond which would be odd. I think it would be more fitting to just call them Exceptions, like oh yes don't try to solo a Champion, that's suicide unless you think you're an Exception.

Afrisan

Love it!

Matthew Statz

Regarding the SS rank- does it add anything to either the character or the story? It seems like those designations really only matter if they are system-recognized. If you just mean it as the way in which people think of those three, then I agree with an earlier comment that it should be something a little more humorous/insulting. If this is a new system recognized ranking to account for a "new" tier of power these three share, with either quest or advancement implications, then I think it's fine but not very exciting. It's nomenclature used in other books so people will understand it, but doesn't make me think "ooooh, cool".

Spam X

That would be awesome and a good stage for a lot of funny interactions

P C

S2 rank? Double S rank? SS rank is okay, but I see why there are concerns

Edmund Dillon

I like SS rank, I think there's gonna be a couple more SS rank people in the beyond, not just those 3. Tftc!!!!

Flo Zilla

Truely the best idea.

Abhishek

Why not pivot to calling it the 3 kings or some nomenclature like that than categorise them as ranks. Whoever is overwhelmingly powerful you crown them king. It can even scale up as well. Just a thought..

Fdrugc

Tftc "There are many descriptions of what follows, though most describe it as pure tyranny. Not caring about his image, the image of his guild, or the other S rank defending the guild, he attacks the Guild Master of the Primordial Knights, the Mana Tyrant Nathaniel Gwyn, takes a minute to break through all the defenses." Shouldn't it be nat attacking the guild?

Nate 3000

I think this is the best alternative to "SS" or "SSS". Narratively, it would work if he thinks it to himself and maybe mumbles it/mentions it offhandedly and it catches on around Beyond.

Nate 3000

I've see this a couple times and it's a good catch. I'm hoping Cerim fixes it by having Nat but TWO new passives! (Replacing selective adaptation with something stronger?)

thisisniall

I think it's better to to start this as having multiple names in circulation since it's moving through the zeitgeist, whereas S is actually a thing in the system. With Christoph out of the tutorial, presumably his ranking no longer matters. SS and EX being 'some' of the current terms in circulation is fine. I personally think people referring to as BS ('officially' Beyond-S but 'actually' bullshit) is great, but it remaining an informal designation for the absolute freaks makes sense.

thisisniall

I believe that he's going to drop Selective Adaptation, merge Hyperprocessing Vector and Mana Vault, and then use his spare slot for the token. It's mentioned earlier the tokens give more limited selections, so if he used the token first he might not end up with good merge material.

Tshern

S+ and s++? With x rank being way out there?

Nate 3000

"Make me liquid Big T"

Andrew

Thank you!

jordicl

Disregarding the rank "SS" just because it coincides with a piece of history is idiotic, do what you want, With the same logic, you should remove the mana crown, since there were many kings that were responsible for massive massacres rivaling the hcaust. They weren't even all that uniquely evil either, just the most recent example of a highly cruel secret police in Europe. Even today, you have similarly cruel secret polices in places like Afghanistan, North Korea, Israel, Russia, China... and even in Europe you have past examples like the Inquisition. Treating the SS like they are some unique never seen before evil is just ignorant, don't let something like that affect your creative mind and how you write fiction.

John

i thnk nat needs a free slot for the primary class upgrade🤓

Zard

MD rank for mana daddy

Andrew Miller

SS is fine just know the max is SSS otherwise you are diving into fantasy territory

Youkai-sama

I like G-rank (as in god rank) myself.

Rakharun

I didn't even think of the "SchutzStaffel" and I'm from Germany. So i don't think the S/SS/SSS system is going to be an issue here.

Iniko Betts

How about instead of worrying about ranks they simply stick with the named aspect? Like how lissandra is known as “ancient monster”. I like the name of mana tyrant over everything else to be said. Just an idea to keep what is already there.

josh reinoehl

It's because he is using this as a distraction from his child

TBONEMAN

Aw man, Patreon redid their comment section- its too ugly to look at rn. I will not be reading all the comments today 🤮

No a huge fan of SS, just kinda seems like a lesser SSS. I prefer S+ but that also feels kinda generic. I am a fan of Alexikon's idea for BS - Beyond S. Fits the theme in Beyond and as they mentioned can be used for Bullshit rank which is fun.

SS is fine. You could - for no particular reason - make it an official ranking system used by the Rulers and external Absolutes/handlers. You could even throw in a POV from the handlers describing how the "SS" rank itself has qualifying tiers (e.g. SS1, SS2, SS3, etc.). Then we - as the readers - have official DBZ cannon!

S, SS, SSS are normal to use in Asian webnovels and from fighting games. I think the usage here is fine and you're overthinking

Crow Says Caw

Happy with SS, but I’d say it only works if it’s between S and SSS. That way the negative connotations are lessened because it is part of a sequence, in my opinion. TFTC!

If you say there is an SS rank that implies the mythical tier SSS with the Max cap tier being EX. It also feels a little plain just saying they are SST. Instead you can have like a fun title call them anomalies, true beyonders, unrankable, or even beyond beyond. Or you can have a little fun side story where they recontextualize the ranking system of all of beyond by making it a tier system, and not even the system recognizes it. Because as much as I understand the FEDCBAS tier system I also don’t like it because it’s technically limiting it says the farthest you can never go is S and if anything goes beyond that they don’t have an actual contextualized way to explain it. I was always a fan of tears because tears can go forever you use Roman numerals to explain it, and it can infinitely grow. There’s the fun adventuring system where you rename everything to a type of metal. The final one is you have Nathaniel go big boy evil mode and rename everything to a type of mana color. I use Texas speech if there’s any errors use your mind as a human being to fill in the gaps and fix stuff

Do the ranks matter at all? I think there was some limit on quests you are allowed to take based on your rank, is that right? Would that apply to a non-system enforced, figure of speech sorta rank? My thoughts in general are "who cares?", its only gonna be used when some random is talking about the MC. "Im an SS rank now!" just seems like a real lame thing to say, so i hope he doesnt say it. More specifically, its wild to make a new ranking just for the main character, because the other two SS ranks are out of the tutorial.

Corac

In the litrpg world and many other types of books thay use the S,SS,SSS power levels it has not ever once made me think of associating it was what your worried about. Its a widely used and accepted power ranking so you should be fine if you stick with it.

Gardor

My first thought was "who cares?", its not like the "ranks" mean anything. I vaguely remember that you can take harder missions maybe, but i dont see how an informal crowd based ranking system would impact that. And its not like they have harder quests they wanna give S ranks, S rank was the top they could do all the quests.

Pretty sure he's planning to use a low pristine combination token on two of his pristine passives. So maybe he wants to buy this one only to combine it with one of the others. But I guess we'll see.

I think Talon could easily pull a Ruby move from the 2nd floor & scam Nat out of 1000's of shards. Nat cares about money similar to the way Liss did back then. So long as he has enough to buy what he wants & get the things made from Crimson forge the way he wants, he really doesn't care. Isn't the Pirate friend actually Lily? Or is there some other Pirate Im forgetting about? Dili & Ruby are both Pirate like. With the Talnium he should easily have enough for two pristine passives, & likely a few hundred million extra. He really could have picked greed as a subclass the way he's taught his minion to steal everything not nailed to the floor. Can't wait to see what the System recognizes as an action that qualifies him as a Pride Master. Its so fun watching Nat get powerful!! Still waiting for him to figure out spatial caches! Any day now. People will lose their minds when he makes it look easy. Dili will be ticked!

Shawn

Yes cerim do this it's brilliant

Jimbo

SSS could be a good rank, as that is the traditional most powerful classification And Nate would be like "I get all three Ss"

Kaladin

Honestly the suggestion of BS is best. If you don't like that then the tyrants. The mana tyrant, the blood tyrant, and the emo tyrant. Although many probably don't know that about Christoph and I'm not sure how he's seen by most beyond members. Also recommend reworking the intro as it's a bit of an abrupt change from how last chapter ended. No major rework just adding a little transition.

Tess probably, eye patch

Jon

Triple SSS ?

Sean

Do you think that Nat will instantly become a champion when he leaves the tutorial or instantly become an absolute? My money is on absolute as I suspect he will have skills over 95 and level 500+ after killing all of the Monarchs on the fifth floor and getting to the sixth or seventh floor

EsZeus

S, SS, SSS and then maybe EX and EX+ There are so many different types of ranking themes out there. Who cares if SS could be something else? We are reading a Fantasy novel and thr Ranking is clear as hell. Its like stopping to breath air because evil people in history also breathed air. Oh no! 😂

NatXLily

would be awesome if it upgraded to mid pristine

NatXLily

My opinion after reading all these comments: F-S ranking is for normal attendees... you know them... scared of some ... remember them even after tutorials end ... for a while.... but ... L rank for legendary or BS for beyond S rank are my opinions BS is better because it stands for someone beyond what the tutorial typically allows for ... a champion in the tutorial or at least what would/could be at any time outside it L is good for legendary because they will never be forgotten.... like a legend of old... i remember the mana tyrant .... even back then he could probably take down our own absolute ... blah blah stories told on each planet BS could be a good name for people to disparage aswell later on saying i call bullshit on some of those feats ... or he cheated ... blah blah Ty Cerim for writing this story its the best ive read.

Shawn Treants

Its pretty common for tiers in stories like this. Usually topping out at SSS and sometimes pluses are added along the way. I think for story context it has no relation to real world things.

Gavriel

Maybe just X rank

jobe matula

I like it.. its natural.. it's exactly appropriate

Nemesis

I love the way its presented as a sign of his power and arrogance that he didn't kill any of them. In reality: gotta be careful, I dont want to accidentally gain any levels!

tyhuko

We don't know the exact requirements for Absolute but he might try to skip Champion and level up to Absolute of Eladore at the end of his tutorial so he has a chance against Fraudrian

Natalie

"The guild master of the primordial knights is BS rank." "Beyond S?" "No, bullishit."

Natalie

Can someone point me in the direction for the Patreon of the Patreon, I appear to be out of chapters 😭

Kirin

Thank you for the chappie!

"And so, more and more people began to view the three of them as anomalies." A very special day when Cerim uses a past tense!
