Nyssa shoots forth from within the flames, each heartbeat sending a pulse of kinetic energy that pushes them away from her. Almost lazily, she deflects the [Empyrean Lance] I shoot at her, and a swing of her sword cuts through the explosion I trigger from that lance.

As she lands on the metal bridge next to me, it rings in a clean, high tone, and each of her steps, followed by pulses of kinetic energy, makes it ring again and again.

When I start walking, it rings under me too, though body reinforcement with black mana and my kinetic energy create two different tones that weave together.

The albino demon avoids my stream of golden flames, and as it sweeps around, it further lights up the cavern already illuminated by the lava lake. Even as the flame moves across the walls, it does not heat them up, and instead, it deflects off fractals, bouncing and shooting through the cavern.

I boost myself back, and Nyssa only increases her speed, dodging and deflecting my attacks, even the ones shooting at her from behind her back or bending to attack her again after missing.

Multiple orbs explode all around her, kinetic, mana, thermal, and mixed ones. Some hit with raw power, others with more exotic properties mimicking attacks I have witnessed from other people. Each packs enough force to erase a city block, but none stop her.

She pushes through, cuts an orb in half to make it miss, or blows it away with her output of kinetic energy.

That output continues to become even more ridiculous as she lets it run wild while binding herself together. At this point, I wonder how high of a level she usually fights at when she does not use binding energy. Half of her potential? A third?

How ridiculous.

But even then, I do not let myself get pushed back too much. Though I cannot generate as much kinetic energy as she can, nor can I perfectly handle the thermal energy given to me by my heart, I can still handle that absurd amount of mana. My minds have been working in overdrive since the start of the fight, redistributing and channeling, handling my eyes, cycling, and managing it all.

A few of my orbs shoot toward the lava lake, exploding beneath the surface while I keep my distance, weaving threads of mana in Nyssa's path to slow her down while shooting ranged attacks to tire her out.

When her face twists in a faintest hint of anger as I avoid direct contact, I laugh out loud.

I have already modified my marks and woven a [Weave] around us that she, because of her specialization in primordial energies, cannot sense very well. Also, unlike Morwag or Lioren, her use of binding and kinetic energy seems much more limited, though it packs a far more powerful kick.

And I am limited too because of my specialisation. I cannot simply suppress, take, or disrupt mana, as she mostly uses primordial energies.

When it comes to dueling, she is far better. So much better than anyone I have ever met. Her [Weapon], her incredible perception that allows her to sense attacks, her ability to parry or deflect. And her sword... I have nothing that can stop it.

So I try to be as annoying as possible. I continue to switch my methods of attack to confuse her. I use a multitude of different strikes and keep observing her, letting my subminds develop methods to face her.

The longer we fight, the more accustomed I become to her abilities, but unfortunately, the same goes for her. The longer we fight, the more she grows used to her own abilities as well. Her handling of her gargantuan output continues to rapidly improve, her strikes around me come closer, and she grows better at using only the exact amount of power needed.

Slowly, this battle turns into a fight of endurance. Who can keep this up for longer?

During all of this, the surface of the lava lake below us ripples, and a huge monster, awoken by my explosions, pierces through.

[Scarlet Drake - lvl ????]

My skills hit its body, but its scales ripple and physically move like waves on the surface of a lake, and when they’re smooth again, my attacks didn’t leave a single scratch. The drake roars and begins to move swiftly, stabbing its claws into the cavern walls and pulling itself out.

I can sense the incredible heat gathering and shift to the side as it shoots flame from its mouth and tracks me.

While I’m avoiding it, Nyssa exploits the opportunity and jumps into my path. The smile on my face disappears and now appears on hers. She kicks at my crossed arms, I barely absorb the impact, yet my bones break, and I am flung back.

Nyssa then reaches into the flames heading her way, grabbing them out of the air and pulling back as she shapes them into a flame sword in the form of a Flamberge. The drake does not seem impressed. It roars, its red eyes lighting up and then flashing as an invisible attack shoots at Nyssa.

She cuts through it and deflects a portion toward me, causing it to hit my leg.

I watch as it begins to turn to stone at an incredible pace, and without hesitation, I cut my leg off, watching it fall and crumble into sand. No matter how much thermal energy I send through my body, that part of my leg refuses to regenerate.

Avoiding another burst of flame from the drake, I create a leg out of mana and entirely cover myself in Regalia, just in time, as the drake's eyes flash again.

I’m not as fast as Nyssa, and the attack hits me, but instead of my body, it begins to turn even the mana of my Regalia to stone.

I escape out of it before recreating a new one. Once again, I [Focus] and snap all my mana black, with Regalia taking on that same color.

During that time, the drake that was already clashing with Nyssa suddenly twists its head, turning toward me. With eyes wide open, it stares for a moment and sniffs with that gaze, then turns into one of pure hate.

That invisible attack flashes omnidirectionally this time, but Nyssa cuts through it, landing on the drake's neck.

The drake ignores her entirely, its scales rippling once again as it triples in size. The surface of the lava lake, calm until now, churns violently as all of it rises into spinning tornadoes, hurling droplets of molten rock all over the place, and laser-like streams of flames shoot, reflecting from the fractals of the walls of the cavern and bouncing all over the place.

Increasing its speed, the drake jumps from the wall onto the bridge and, as an unstoppable train the size of a building rushes at me while Nyssa stabs her Flamberge into its neck. Her sword breaks through some of the scales and burns the monster's flesh, but that is all.

Multiple times, the monster’s eyes flash, and that invisible attack slams against my black armor, failing to turn it to stone this time, but sending heavy ripples through it.

My armor continues to strengthen as it feeds on the rich ambient mana, and I form holes across its back to let my exhaust nodes vent the scorching thermal energy generated by my heart. I stretch the armor, making it grow in size as I use kinetic energy to power my movements and the thermal blast from my back to propel myself forward, slamming headfirst into the drake.

The sheer power of the impact shakes me to the bone, and I almost fall off the bridge as the drake continues to push and bite at me, carving deep wounds into my armor.

My output surges, and the flames from the back of the armor emit a high-pitched whine as I stop myself from sliding off the edge and drive back. I pull my arm and punch the drake while the same high-pitched flames erupt from the elbow to increase the force, making the monster stagger. Then, in another burst, I propel myself forward to hit it once more, only for the beast to snap its jaws down and bite straight into my hand.

It thrashes violently, trying to tear my limb off, but then Nyssa lands right over its eye, plunging her flame sword straight into the socket while releasing all of its stored energy. The eye explodes into a burst of gore and fire, and the drake roars out, releasing my hand.

I boost my mecha armor forward, grabbing the monster around its neck, shoving my hands into its maw to force its jaws wide open.

The invisible attack flashes multiple times in rapid succession as the lava tornadoes grind closer, superheating the air around us and slamming into our surroundings with flames bouncing all over.

Taking a deep breath, I slowly exhale.

In my mind, I recalculate the steps, find the arrays, modify them on the fly, and, relying on my mind to keep up the load, trigger them all at once.

I draw in the heat from the lava tornadoes.

I fight against the black armor threatening to take over.

I pump more power into the armor and continue to pull the drake's mouth even wider open.

I then step out of the black armor, leaving it under the control of one of my subminds while a bus-long [Empyrean Lance] manifests over the palm of my hand, ready to be blasted straight down the drake's throat.

Then I remember something.

I cannot level up right now.

My eyes snap to Nyssa, and I give her an apologetic smile.

She crosses her arms in front of her face just as I redirect the lance and fire it at her, blasting her straight through the cavern wall and out into the open air.

Redirecting every bit of force I can gather, my black mana mecha uses all its power to punch the drake, infusing the attack with a kinetic pulse, one of Lioren's favourite ones, that rattles the monster from the inside out.

The drake briefly loses consciousness, its heavy body sliding back and beginning to tip off the edge of the bridge. But it regains it fast, scrambling as its massive claws dig deep gouges into the metal, trying to pull itself back up.

My mana armor moves and steps onto its head, sending the beast falling off the ledge and into the lava lake below.

The armor shrinks, shattering into particles that I force into the shape of a black halo spinning above my head. The exhaust nodes on my back ignite, and the raw thermal energy propels me between the roaring lava tornadoes and out of the cavern through the hole left by Nyssa and my lance. Behind me, I trigger a string of explosions to bury the cavern.

Just as I break out into the open sky, I detect a rapidly approaching presence and jerk to the side, barely dodging Nyssa as she flies past me in that style of a kinetic rocket strapped to her back.

I increase my kinetic output as well as redirect the thermal output of my exhaust nodes and fly away as fast as I can while she relentlessly follows behind me.

As I dive toward the ground, I remanifest my vessel out of my halo just as Nyssa almost closes the distance. She crashes against the black vessel taken over by one of my subminds, and I absorb my inertia and G-force as I turn to a blur and explode toward Nyssa just as she gets out of my vessel's grip.

The lance that pushed her out of the cavern and that she deflected somewhere comes back at the same time with the speed of a falling meteor, slamming against both of us as I grab both of her hands to keep her here.

As the enormous lance moving at hypersonic speed crashes against me, it breaks into pieces against my layered defense specially modified against it. One of my eyes pops under the effort, and I am pushed to my knees under the strain of all that has already happened.

Binding energy around Nyssa entirely disappears, pulled closer toward her as she concentrates it on her skin. Her blood boils in her veins, and the heartbeats of kinetic energy create a barrier around her.

I watch as the [Empyrean Lance] breaks through. It slams against her shoulder, it tears the skin, wounding her there. And I also watch in thought acceleration as her glowing red pupils move faster than her body is moving to even now keep an eye on me.

As the lance between us explodes, I don't even notice how she gets out of my grip until I see my broken hands. Nyssa then slaps her hands together, compressing and then deflecting the entirety of the explosion off to her side where it cleaves into the landscape like the strike of an enormous axe.

A boost of kinetic energy pushes me back onto my feet. I absorb the kinetic energy of her attack and punch back, once again breaking my hands against her defenses. My black vessel stands forgotten as all my effort goes into mana reinforcement and kinetic strengthening. My mind maintains the thought acceleration as the two of us face each other, exchanging and avoiding punches.

In the end, of course, it's not a good idea for me to go melee against someone like her. It's just a straight-up dumb, stupid decision.

Yet, I still do it.

Even as I stagger back with a hole through my neck, I don't regret it after seeing the bruises and wounds I have caused on her body.

I activate self-destruction in my vessel and teleport away despite her effort to bind me to the space.

Once again I reappear as a skeleton with only my hearts, one eye, and brain. My body begins to regenerate as my black vessel far in the distance explodes with enough force to erase a city.

That should do some-

[Perception - lvl 79 > Perception - lvl 80]

Nyssa uses her binding to bind herself to the remains of my teleport and follows through. I can feel the force of her Primordial Blood as she forces her way toward me, and I shoot an attack toward where she steps out.

Even so, she acts fast enough to deflect it just as the rift closes behind her. The closing portal cuts off the surge of mana radiation from my black vessel, whose explosion lights up the horizon.

I'm still not fully regenerated, with muscles and skin only just beginning to cover my skeleton, so I use kinetic energy to push and pull on my body.

But Nyssa reaches me in a boost of kinetic energy and stabs her hand through my chest, grasping it around my Mana Heart.

That's when I stop everything I was doing. The lance that was forming in front of me disappears. The vessel I was manifesting stops, and I disperse all defensive layers on my body as well as my preparations to teleport.

My mind that was so busy until now shuts down, and I stand still.

“Say it,” Nyssa speaks for the first time as her hand squeezes my heart tighter.

But looking at her, I have no problem saying it.

“Today, I've lost.”

“Today?”

“Yes, today,” I emphasize, fully aware that I mean it.

In front of someone else, I might have lied and said something I think they would want to hear, but not in front of her.

There is not a speck of doubt in my mind as I say these arrogant words, and I would rather watch her destroy my Mana Heart and die trying to bite through her neck than take them back.

“Very good,” she says with a smile, letting go of my heart and pulling her hand out. She then even stands on tip-toes as she reaches up and taps my cheek gently with her bloodied hand.

“Will you eat with me, NatNat?” she asks and begins to look around as if searching for something before looking back at me and waiting for the answer.

“Gladly.”

I commented early because I desperately want to believe you read my comment and saw my name uwu

Arnon Parenti

Ruby = Waifu 1 Lily = Waifu 2 Nyssa = Waifu 3 Who is next on NutNat's list?

J W

Nice. Too bad no steamy sex scenes. Looks like nyssa is adopting nat as family instead. Wonder how Vic will take her new sister?

Irithyll

It's a date!

UnevenCornet

Nutnat is one of the nicknames of all time

Andrew

Thank you!

Marvelarua

Will they get married now?

Sammot

Tftc!

Tsorov

Minion's gonna be the flowergirl at the wedding, and LyssLyss is gonna play the priest. Or the mother on both sides, I'm not sure yet

nick gibbons

top 3 best fight in the series so far i also enjoy how nat lost weirdly enough even know I feel like he had more to show. can't wait to see his new class that he comes back to beat her with it

Arnon Parenti

LissLiss is Ruby's and Nat's master and ahe held Nat's heart first from all the women in his life.

Thien T

"Then I remember something. I cannot level up right now." That Champion grade monster got lucky its would-be slayer is a min-maxing maniac who'd risk his life to squeeze out one more droplet of reward from the System.

The Arcane Emperor

I love that demons have their own code of honor, however strange that might seem to someone else. Plus, Nat is a demon, not by blood, but in spirit.

ariel maoz

Just completely ignoring myrra now aren't we?

Irithyll

Nah JW is right, it's more like she's adopting Nat as a little (demon) brother

Patrick

Tftc!!! Great fight.

Stoney

idk i don't think steamy sex scenes and nat really work XD

Crow Says Caw

I would indeed lol so much if Nutnat hooked up with Nyssa. Lily’s reaction would be priceless TFTC!

M van Dongen

Ahh yes our totally normal polite battle maniacs.

DEGENDRY

Satisfaction

Sergei Hartwig

TFTC! I love it that the MC can lose there isnt a Miracle. Decent skill Progressen for both i think. The was just 💚

TDMC

Given the disparity of physical stats involved, “hip-shattering” wouldn’t even begin to describe any action of that sort he might take with others, particularly Nyssa or Lily

Michael Williams

I agree with this, I think it's also implied that Nyssa has her primary upgrade already. The situation may be reversed once nat gets his. Also he has the mystery skill that we don't know about yet, he has more to offer i think.

Val the mysterious Jedi

Nat looking at at his comment "wtf internet" proceeds to call commeter noble latest pet slippers

Arnon Parenti

Myrra was 4th floor, LissLiss was 2nd, so not ignoring just saying who was first Nya

Bandit General

Same, and then, I see everybody saying it’s a good fight or they are satisfied. What’s wrong with these people, been waiting for nat to do some ass kicking. It’s a let down, if you ask me…… like big bro couldn’t even make her lose an arm or foot. All that confidence for nothing, saying ohh I have this much chance to win, bitch ass nat should win,,, win, winnnnnnnnn… I’m not even mad that he even lost, is just that I was hype for the fight scene and waited two days. And, he couldn’t even bitch slap her 😭

John

As the ruler of impatience, I say Nat should kill the champions already, before he accidentally levels up. No need for endless delays. FR, if it gets delayed as long as the 350 bodyupgrade ill have some sleepless nights

John

AS rational as NAt is, why is he not prioritizing the Things he needs to do before the level-Up and then dos the fuckingAround later

xerebz

This is the thing he needs to do, he's doing this for skill levels

Al

Hard to remove a foot if they’re using primordial binding energy. Nyssa was described as looking pressed, battered, and she was required to use her full power (or at least somewhere close to it), etc. Although I agree it’s disappointing we didn’t get a W, or a bit more of a nat showing, I don’t think it missed the mark either. Don’t forget also that Nyssa is a 1/1000year prodigy (or maybe 2/1000? I forget when Adrian’s tutorial was). Nat is already closing in, with over a year left in his own tutorial and without his primary class upgrade. With pc upgrade? He spanks Nyssa a bit.

jobe matula

this is some bs... worst chapter ever doesn't even make sense.. it literally ruins the whole fkn story. what a sorry ass way to start my morning

thisisniall

I was a little disappointed Nat didn’t get more out of the fight until the “will you eat with me NatNat”. Be still my heart. A demon and a human with strong hearts… Nyssa wanting a normal life with kids in a previous POV and Nats half demon apprentice also a big fan of eating together. Is Vega about to get Nyssa as the mom who stepped up? All jokes aside it's nice to see cerim continue to emphasize the relative importance of matchups rather than just have Nat curbstomp everything before the big Fraudrian fight. Nat's a lot stronger than he was in their last fight but Nyssa gets to show why she was seen as the most talented attendee of the cycle since Adrian. I've mentioned it before but she's also in some ways a mirror of Nat with her dying body, and massive amounts of energy over finesse, with her own insane skills that are the product of a not-great upbringing. She also has the advantage of a lot more time in the tutorial than Nat and we can expect our boy to catch up. Honestly though I suspect she'll stay out of his reach while they're both in the Tutorial and re-appear in the post-Tutorial part of the story - too interesting of a character to just abandon. I hope Nat still has a little room for growth here (lots of possibilities: mini training arc with Nyssa? Active skill combination? Master of Pride? Unlocking Binding? Manual further blood upgrade?) Before heading off to murder some Champions and get his class upgrade.

Gutz

Dude Aura farmed too much and too long. So he attacked her, maybe even tried to kill her, then he lost. And all he gets is a tap on his cheek and an invitation to share a meal ? Come on, where are the consequences ?

Baramus

Whatever amount of time given for Nat to power up and adjust to that power is the same amount of time for Nyssa to improve. She was improving mid-fight, because she’d never been pushed this far before. More battles on a level like this and more control will just make it harder and harder to beat her.

jobe matula

Dammit cerim this is not a comment I wanted you to see... wth lol

John

lol, why? its a cool fight -> i was alsp hoping he would win, but after his primary class he will win

jobe matula

yea I was pretty emotionally invested in him winning beforehand that's all... I woke up an hour early to read this lol.🤣

Alex

shh don't reveal the facts here, people might get angry

Alex

and yes, never forget about Myrra, even if her time is now done. sadly.

Alex

Glad that Nyssa is still stronger but ehh.. feels weird well lets hope he jumps against the champions in the next 5 chapters now thanks for the chappie and no Nyssa is not a sister, she's another pretendant, i agree with some comments here ahem

Fazli Amri Faishal

i think nat is waiting his perception to reach lvl 80, maybe it is the last thing he need to achieve before level 450.

RJ Barnes

Yeah did you not see perception hit 80? Thats 4 or 5 skills at 80? Idr but im sure its higher than most initial champions

Dustin

I hate this chapter. It feels like forever that Nat actually pushed himself and fought and won against a stronger opponent. Top of my head it feels as if the last times was in floor 5 against one of the guardian beings or the fight against zombie Lioren. Since then he was either winning by default as it was a good mach-up for him, fighting against small fry or running away. There are constant jokes about how Nat from floor 3 was so much better, but it feels so true. It does not feel as if he really pushes himself in a fight anymore. Like previously I would have thought that only the first time Nissa captures him with binding he would have to leave his flesh behind and the next time he would be able to circumvent that problem and teleport out no problem. Highlighting how he improves in a fight but this fight felt as if Nat is just a fucking loser. While Nissa improves he is just the loser side character proving all the others right how he will just be a footnote in history.

Tsorov

But she already has her clas upgrade. Nat is going to level up and get that while his body is weak as shit to get the maximum amount of risk for the best rewards. His class upgrade will be a qualitative improvement. And Nyssa will soon exit the tutrial. She already had all the opportunities, Nats opportunities are still comingy

Florin Cojocaru

I get you 100% on this one. It also brings to mind MorMor wiping drool telling LissLiss he'll challenge her. Demons be demons, Nat even more so sometimes. His Pride might also be at work there.

Lucas Colomines

Unfortunately I have to agree with other comments. This fight was underwhelming. Lately fights are either won easily or lost. Worse, with all the mana + primordial energies we lose nat's identity/ style. No technique, signature move etc. Nowadays fights are "big array with no description, empyrean lances that are not a threat to his enemies apparently, kinetic energy that does almost nothing to his enemies, primordial fire lasers". Multiple books were spent emphasizing how nat is a genius mana user. Apart from the beacon thing we do not see it. Yeah, again nat's development in term of power is underwhelming. Where is the cool factor ?

Themo Grulld

Mate wrong Genre read your dark romance ,may be better for you

Nebulous

Great chapter, I really enjoyed the fight. The rematch after Nat gets his primary class upgrade will be exciting. Or Nat might wipe the floor with her. Either way, it was a great fight today

KDR

Ruins the whole story is insane lol. Nat can lose sometimes, it’s okay.

Edmund Dillon

Nothing like a good fight to cause comradare 😂😂 TFTC!!!

Melih

This chapter got me thinking. In a scenario where Nathaniel isn't trained by Lissandra through Thought Acceleration on the 12th floor of Beyond, it feels like it would've been impossible for him to surpass Nyssa by the end of his tutorial. Meaning, it seems like it would've been: 'Nyssa's combat power at the end of her tutorial >>>>>> Nathaniel's combat power at the end of his tutorial'. Also, if we consider that Ignition Heart, Mana Cycling, Active Tempering, Restrictive Training Emblem, Evil Orbs, Cubes, Pyramids, and a couple of other things are all stuff Nat wouldn't have without Lissandra, I'm starting to feel like in a scenario without her, Nathaniel, assuming he even managed not to die, would at most finish the tutorial as a mid to high S rank. Not to mention the fact that without Lissandra, Nathaniel would've fallen into the trap of relying on black mana and built his entire build around it. Lissandra chewed him out pretty hard for that

Melih

I don't think the gap between them can be closed just with Nathaniel's new primary class. What he'll get from his new Primary Class is probably just this: 2 new active skills, more bonus mana stat points, and a mid pristine passive

Abhishek

I knew Nat lost reading the title. Nat would not ‘tell’ her to say it.

Nemesis

Be still my hearts 😜

Nemesis

Nyssa has talent and natural gifts on her side. All Nat has is grit and his own efforts, with some fortuitous encounters in-between

Nemesis

Nyssa has seen that Nat is the most demon human to ever demon! 😂

Nemesis

So, i started wondering, do you reckon Nat's plan is to use his question from Kyralon to find something or some way to get to Eladore's spark without having to beat the dungeon normally? Then return to Earth post-tutorial as the Absolute of Eladore and trigger the pairing as soon as he's thrown out of the tutorial?

Nemesis

I've got a theory Nat is trying to turn that piece of the nameless tree into a sort of kinetic heart, except he wants to use it to rebuild his whole body to generate kinetic energy, like how he wants to make his whole body into a mana heart

Nemesis

Surely with all he has accomplished Nat will get more than that. At least a high pristine. Except all his passives slots will be full, so he will probably get a combination token

Zard

If Nat won every fight then there wouldn’t be any suspense. It’d make HDT and Nat like every other litRPG Mary Sue

Nemesis

Fairly sure we had it confirmed that at least 5 skills at 85 is one of the requirements for Champion. So he's not quite at their level yet

Lance Beam

Now there’s a thought.

jobe matula

I know I know.. but then again there's one punch man sooo... lol I just wanted him to win this one, Nyssa isn't a ruler or anything special but don't think she deserves this win. like Adrian.. sure he's special.. Nyssa is just a bs demon who's a little stronger than most.. that's why it's ruining whole story for me

jobe matula

hell even a loss to tacita would be acceptable.

Emily Steel

Nyssa is a demon, they challenge each other all the time like this

Baramus

I agree that he has a big power boost coming, but he can hardly handle what he has already. He’s constantly playing catchup, it’s why everyone is concerned about him, he’s going to implode by the time he gets out of the tutorial.

thisisniall

Iirc a couple chapters ago Nat thought it would be 50/50 even with his primary class upgrade. I do think Nat gets stronger than her eventually, but she's also a super-talent on a 'break my body to make massive gains' path, and both has a head start and is still growing herself. She's also specifically (called out in this chapter) a more talented *duelist* than him - and this is essentially a duel. Nat isn't as monstrous against single super tough opponents in these situations - he's got his lance for piercing and is great at mass bombardment, but single super tough targets can be tricky for him (Adjudicators and their healing, Nyssa with her combination of parry/dodge and Binding). I'd love for Nat to pick up some stuff from Nyssa here, as he shamelessly steals and adapts other people's best stuff. [Empyrean Lance] -> [Empryean Weapon] incoming?

Primo

Nahh Nyssa is the most broken character of the story so far, people forget she is a demon & prob has 5 traits already we know how just 3 made Nat op, Nat literally injects himself with Nyssa Primordial blood to evolve his trait physique while she living with it & surving so far, Nyssa did not have 2 years in mind acceleration to refine herself with a ruler like Liss too, she is just so strong already while unpolished she soloed a champion and did a dingpocalypse on beyond first floor by herself, y all need to put some respect on Nyssa, it's not for nothing that kindness who even pride can't kill is paying so much attention to her

Subliminary

I’m glad he lost to Nyssa, he shouldn’t be winning before his class upgrade while she has her’s, but I am pseudo confused as to what Nat has really gained from at least 800 days in Mind Acceleration. That’s equivalent to what about half or more of the entire time he’s been in the Tutorial? The only gains are a small number of level ups for his high tier skills and like 10 for his new low level ones? (Plus his paper rain slicer move.) Assuming he worked on that secret last skill the most and that’s why

thisisniall

The upcoming solo vs Champion fights will probably be the 'fight against a stronger opponent' by definition, but Nat's also intending to cheat as much as possible to solo 2 at once so it might not be the cinema you're looking for. I hard disagree on your opinion on Nyssa though, Nat makes multiple mid-combat improvements in this fight, breaks through multiple skill bottlenecks - [Weave] and the previously super-stagnant [Perception], notably -but is generally just getting outclassed by an opponent in their area of greater-specialty. Remember that Primordial Knights explicitly were targeting mana-based Champions (aka future Nat) because of the relatively good matchup of Primordial users against them, so Nat's intentionally picking a fight with a bad matchup, yet he still pulls off tricks like mid-combat [Weave] to delay someone whose output is even greater than his due to 5-trait-ancient-demon-bloodline-nonsense. As for not pushing himself, he basically has his body (all but the irreplaceable organs) disintegrated multiple times. I know. He's got a pristine regeneration skill, but you can't push yourself much harder than that without dying.

thisisniall

Nyssa is explicitly a monstrous talent, on par with OG Adrian, with even more long-term potential. She's got one of if not the single most busted trait synergy /primordial energy combinations out there, literally 'always getting stronger' from existing with the potential to survive an energy so powerful no Demon with it has ever reached the rank of Ruler. She's *also* doing the 'constantly dying to get stronger' thing Nat is doing, but with a built in Primordial energy. Oh, and her starting? skill [Weapon] is like, [Control]-tier utterly bonkers nonsense, and she presumably has absurd levels in it, competitive with Nat's talent for [Focus]. There's exactly one attendee in the tutorial Nat isn't going to curbstomp at the moment, and it's Nyssa, the 1000-year prodigy with 5-trait ancient demon bloodline hacks. Nat even explicitly thought he had a 50/50 chance of beating her*after* his Primary class upgrade just 2 chapters ago. This demon chick has even more Binding energy than MorMor, but unlike him is a Jedi of the art of dodge/parry on top of that, rather than simply facetanking everything others throw at her.

Tishane :Imperial MageKiller

I think because its to figure out where he needs to build towards 🤔 like test everything now and then revise the final build aka this isn't even my final form 🤣🤣

jobe matula

well that makes me feel a bit better.. I didn't really catch that about Nyssa. I mean I read everything just didn't get the feeling that she was special..

Tishane :Imperial MageKiller

Lol i love how eating together is the demons way of acknowledging someone....a bunch of battle maniacs with some Fat backs.

thisisniall

I will agree Nat's use of thermal energy is perennially disappointing. He either needs either a Thermal-sensei a la Lioren to get decent at it and blend it into his fighting style the way he does with Kinetic Energy, or get even better at converting it into mana to the point he's not having to waste most of it venting. Or both! He uses his Kinetic energy all the time, it just doesn't totally smurf high level people. It's mostly mobility, slight control, and personal strengthening rather than direct battering rams of force. He even slows Nyssa down with Kinetic energy in this very fight, it's just that she has even more of it than he does. He's also regularly mixing it into woven Empyrean lances and uses it a lot in melee/with his Lissandra-upgraded body strengthening, so we see it highlighted quite a bit, to the point where earlier in this very fight it's mentioned both he and Nyssa are moving faster than Tacita, if not with her sheer level of grace. For the Empyrean Lances they do regularly mess people up, I think the problem is a few recent notable fights (the Griffon absolutely hard countering it, Nyssa just generally being too fucking good at dodging all his ranged attacks) have had enemies that can deal with them. But in this very fight he's using it in new ways, empowering his vessel with Empryean mana, etc. He adapts to the Griffon situation by turning the Griffon into his weapon against the other contestants at the games, which is really clever thinking if not a specific 'mana technique'. He's also been reshaping them into swords for melee fairly often.

Val

Hoping for the lovely conversation of: Nyssa: As you probably know my body is going to tear itself apart shortly after the tutorial Nat: Oh yeah, me too. Nyssa: ???

Dustin

@thisisniall most of your answer is just copium. In the end he lost and was left in the dust by Nyssa. Furthermore " 'fight against a stronger opponent' by definition" is just bullshit. It is a foregone conclusion that Nat will win the fight against most if not all champions on the fifth floor. So I would say they are not stronger. And yes he could have pushed himself harder. He could have let her destroy his mana heart and kept on fighting with the second heart. He gave up because he was not ready to push himself as hard as he did in earlier fights in the story. He conceded and lay his life into her hands. He did so already earlier in the fight: "In the end, of course, it's not a good idea for me to go melee against someone like her. It's just a straight-up dumb, stupid decision.". He did not took the fight seriously and convinced himself that she will not hurt him too bad. The whole chapter reads as if Nat is just a loser compared to someone like Nyssa. And I bet next chapter will be full of Nats copium again off how he was just sparring with her and not going all out and if he would have he would have won. I hate it. Before in the story we got shown how Nat is a crazy bastard and what he is ready to do and does and also we got very importantly shown his results and wins. But currently all we get to see is how everyone just talks about him or how crazy it is what he is doing but we get no results - no satisfying wins.

Kenny

Yeah I know Nyssa is a one in a million talent, but I think almost 2 years of one-on-one directed training under the greatest combat focused absolute who lived would have made him closer to her equal. His mana strengthening is much better now, his shields are better (except not so much in this fight) and he learned to make a Scalar beacon. Hell all that time he spent detecting attacks from absolute level beings and he only just increased his perception across the bottleneck

Jimbo

Super close. Breaking that 79->80 level is the hard part.

Jimbo

That's why the demons all love him. They all think he's an honorary demon. Its like some sort of crazy adoption.

Jimbo

Agreed, this is a family thing. Its actually way more cute.

Jimbo

In demon culture, this is what they do - and Nat has embraced that culture. The consequences are risking death, but they don't take any of this personally. On a purely objective basis, its VERY hard for either of them to level skills into the 80s and 90s, and a fight like this is one of the few ways to do it. This was incredibly valuable to both of them.

granndfunk

Nat is so soft now. I miss old Nat.

Marwolaeth

He luterally curb stomped alot of people in that 1,000 year quest while using only 30% power.... also he deztroyed that chanpion grade dude who was in charge of the show easily! Calm down brotha, he said two chapters ago he would only have a 50/50 chance of victory..... after his primary class, lol

Marwolaeth

Man Nat should mix empyrian lance with mana manipulation so he can have Empyrian Manipulation or something, the two-step weapon craft mid combat keeps slowing him down so much it's gonna bite him in the butt

Marwolaeth

Well, for one, while all the Boys were slapped down woth Dili's aura farming, nat just stood there (floated in his mandibles?) and kept talking And he was able to survive the Wyvern, and they are literal masters of their domains, without being pulped- hes not even a champion yet! So basically, anything below a champion is the same to beings of that level- even some of the rulers would struggle with Wyvie- and most champions are never gonna reach absolute level, or even ruler level So, his gains are technically gonna be slower to really show.... because he has to use those skills to show the system their growth, but there isnt many chances to fight stromg enough ememies yet Like, his first time fighting "absolute level attacks" since his training was right now, fighting Nyssa, so his perception finally passed the bottleneck. Its going great, will go better against the champions when he fights them i bet

im Panda

Bro y'all whine so much LMAO, the past two chapters were great cerim, thank you

William Johnson

I think he wants more skills above 80 before he gets his class upgrade.

Hardworking Guy

@Dustin, are you even thinking before writing? Is the brain between your asscheeks doing the thinking? What do you mean by "He could have let her destroy his mana heart and kept on fighting with the second heart," Have you even read the story until now, have you read how Lissandra, a being that could regenerate from an imprint on his palm could not regenerate a mana heart? How literally most of the last book was revolving around her getting a mana heart back and how difficult it is? Those words of yours invalided everything you said or you'll ever say about this.

Kaladin

His primary goal was to get skill upgrades and push himself. He specifically knew fighting her in melee was a terrible idea and still did it. He could probably win by bombarding her from afar and just being an annoying shit she can't catch. He's trying to grow for his class evolution and he has pride in being stubborn and stupid. I loved this fight and hate MC's that never lose like Jake from S̶t̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶F̶a̶r̶m̶ Primal Hunter. MCs that have no stakes are boring without real tension.

Kaladin

Disagree

rams

Pretty sure she should be well past 500 by now.

rams

she also likely has her next body upgrade as well

Kaladin

Each attendee gets their own opportunities and rewards. Nyssa probably has had multiple amazing ones as well. Who knows where Nate would be without Liss as his entire trajectory would have changed and he probably would have mentored under a different power learning more traditional methods and depending on his skills more. He would have been just as much of a risk taker so it's hard to see what his build would look like. He's the MC so it would be something else crazy, but if he wasn't that is probably right another decent S rank probably at Morgs level, still better than other Earthers.

J W

Definitely, she even called him natnat just like she used to call morwag mormor

Kaladin

Phenomenal chapters, really enjoyed the fight. I didn't realize how many commenters want an OP character that overcomes any obstacle and has a dozen wives. The best stories need tension and if your MC overcomes all odds every time it really takes away from that tension. There needs to be stakes as I've commented on several posts. The invincible MCs are a dime a dozen and the McDonald's of LitRPGs, good but not anything special.

Mega Mike

Sounds like your new to reading LITRPGs. The OP MC with minimal obstacles that are easy overcome is the standard. However, I agree with you about tension. I am all for setbacks and wins at a cost. But, we are in the minority.

Fdrugc

He's doing it for the skill upgrades and for fun.

Anthony Knockel

What a fantastic ending to that fight. Perfection.

Fdrugc

No champion is 5 at 85 minimum.

Kirin

Thank you for the chappie!

Anthony Knockel

I'm confused on why there are people that are upset with this ending. I enjoy a main character that loses fights. I hate it when the main character wins every fight because of plot armor.

mulchymulcher

I thought teleporting as just bones and eyes, starting to fall, and regenerating within a heartbeat was pretty good. There was also the black mana chain mail thing, which was very cool

facetiousk

A bunch of people are upset he won, but even his own opinion of him winning was a long shot without his class upgrade (at best, 50/50 with it). Personally, I appreciate the continuity - especially in demonstrating that Nyssa was considered one of the most gifted beyonder in generations for a reason. Not to mention, the match-up here is horrible for him. A broken MC is only so fun. An MC that is reasonably broken while destroying his body to do so - while the scale and opponent match-up are equally shown as important for story continuity... That's brilliant!

thisisniall

Remember Nat has a 'hidden' skill (not revealed, though I suspect it's Sacrifice but hope it's something else given where it appears on his sheet), so he's actually at 10/10 currently. Even after using an active skill merge token he'll only have room for 1 new skill, unless he pulls off a manual skill merge beforehand. When he got his Mana Weaver class he also only had room for 1 active skill and got offered a bunch of different reward options (eventually choosing his first trait evolution token) in lieu of a second skill.

ForgottenDreams

I absolutely love how some fights simply take more than one chapter, many authors don't let this shit BREATH.

Damian Karis

I’m happy that Nat lost this one, it gets boring when an MC beats everyone, it feels like there’s no stakes anymore. Go read Primal Hunter if that’s what you want (personally I’ve dropped that story as it’s gotten way too boring).

Terri Harris

Personally I found this chapter hard to swallow. Nats Black mana should have given him a huge advantage. If it wasn't for his acknowledging the big mistakes he made while fighting it would have felt even more unreal. Nats always fought up several levels easily and especially with all his recent power ups I'm choosing to think of this as a fight he intentionally lost. From a story point of view its good to show Nat still growing. And with the unknown 10th skill as well as his fragment black mana, 2 primordials, 2 extra years of thought accelerated training and various pristine passives, as well as his vessel. Being a hair trigger away from advancing. Its obvious he's got several aces up his sleeves that he chose not to reveal or utilize. This was not a life or death rage motivated must win battle. I expect to see that with Christoph. Still great writing and storytelling. I love the being invited to share a meal with all the hidden meaning. Makes you wonder if Nyssa knows he could have won and chose not to thus revealing his soft spot towards her.

Gwiddion

@Dustin I hard disagree with that take. This chapter was needed a ton and it's conclusion was nearly perfect. In my opinion nat could have injured her a bit more showing that the distance isn't that far. BUT it so often feels like a ton of people here expect nat to curbstomp Adrian in a year then bitchslap pride and whoever else a few chapters after. Yes there is some discrepancy between how certain champions are portrayed in this story in regards to their strengths. Some like the host of the tournament could easily be overpowered while others are still way superior to nat. The reason fir this is, that champions rank isn't a definitive strength category. Eladores champions would most likely be strong absolutes. Tristan destroyed the world with his most powerful attack. No one we have encountered so far would have been able to do that. Nyssa has a close to 1.8 year advantage to nat she is considered by kyralon more fitting to become the next weapon. The fact that nat was even close to beating her in a 1 on 1 is statement enough to his improvement. She basically tore through nat and the boys (yes they weren't at their peak but still) in that conflict she didn't use all her primordial energies. Additionally I can only agree with everything hardworking guy has said And as an addition when nat asked for help to create a new body for the twins one of the main problems was getting a true mana heart for that body.

Nathan Holliday

What would the outcome be if Nat was put in the situation he was during the second tournament where he had to win or one member of group 4 dies? I don’t see grabbing his heart stopping him.

Nemesis

It just occurred to me that the way Nat used his avatar in this fight made him seem a lot like Iron Man. I can't wait for his first press conference upon returning to Earth where he announces to the world "I am Mana Man" 😀

Primo

Liss grand grand son Emeric completely changed Nat growth trajectory by capturing him which made contact with Liss possible, still think Nat would have found way to abuse system to grow but would be more reliant on his black mana tho

Hardworking Guy

Some folks got me so irrationally angry with their expectations for this fight 😂 I'm glad he has not won the fight. They were compared, Nat and Nyssa, by various people in various positions of power and Nyssa was always in higher regard. I do not think all these people are blind, the fact that Nat could even put up a fight when he hasn't had his primary class upgrade, it's already ridiculous, Nyssa is a powerhouse, one that appears every few thousand years in the tutorial. She would have probably wiped the floor with tutorial Adrian so hard he wouldn't have even know how he died. Let's not forget that Nathaniel is a nightmare for every mana user below Absolute level and Nyssa doesn't give a fuck about using mana. So in other words, while being lower in levels, missing the class upgrade she had, having her counter him hard and her having some of the most overwhelming combination of abilities and primordial bullshit, Nat did far better than he should have.

Yvng Dante

For a second there i thought you might have had a bit of a point but the second you mentioned sacrificing the mana heart, i knew you had completely lost the plot. Do you have any idea how stupid of a plan that would be? That isn't risk taken that is just pure foolishness, without his mana heart he loses more than half his capability almost permanently, or were you reading with your eyes closed and brain turned off the entire last arc, see all the bullshit that Liss had to go through in order to regain her mana heart, it came down to literally murdering her clones to take it from them, and even then she mentions that she still needs to modify them, and that is literally the second most capable character in the damn verse, how you think it would have made any sense to let his heart be destroyed just to make the fight keep going longer is beyond me, especially since doing something that daft wouldn't even make him win, since he would be so weak from that singular loss that Nyssa would kill him in quick order after the fact. Also expecting Nat to win this fight here is kinda unreasonable for multiple reasons; 1. Nyssa was counted as the greatest prodigy in over a 1000 years, and someone acknowledged to be a true possible contender to go against pride if she survived that long. 2. She has like what 5 traits as a Demon, that already innately puts her further ahead as a baseline, then add in her bullshit bloodline hax killing her and strengthening her at the same time, and her starting skill [weapon] which is likely on par with [control], and she is not only baseline stronger than Nat, she has both more experience, and more innate talent, and is equally competitive in the way all demons are. 3. She already has her class upgrade, which we KNOW is generally a Qualitative boost and Nat actively chose not to get his first before challenging her because he wanted to use this to help boost his skills further. 4. She also has had more time in the tutorial compared to Nat, and has had longer to grow with the opportunities and boosts that come from being in the tutorial, Nat still has over a year and half to get to where she is power wise, and he is already at the point where someone as talented as she is has to go full throttle, and adapt mid fight in order to win. And while she won pretty handedly here, she had to go full power. Considering Nat is on the verge of a major qualitative upgrade the gap is going to massively close in short order, and he still has his tutorial time and opportunities left, and there is pretty much no way he doesn't surpass her by the end of his tutorial, sure she will also grow stronger in the mean time, but without the tutorial benefits, opportunities and privileges it is unlikely she will be able to match his speed of growth. 5. While Nat gained a lot from the thought acceleration training, that is power that is going to compound with time as his true capability begins to match what his mind has been proven to be capable off, Nyssa for all her capability is likely nowhere close to him in this particular field. 6. Matchups are a thing that matters, and Nyssa is not only better suited to dueling than Nat by also heavily counters him on top of all her advantages, since her raw output is above Nats and she is not reliant on Mana in a way he can exploit, and even if she was, binding energy makes it much harder to work against her abilities. In fact Cerim makes a point to keep this as a factor, which is telling in how Nat doesn't care to fight Tacita under most circumstances, i do not think the current him wouldn't win that fight, but i also think that due to the nature of her capabilities Tacita would have given him trouble in ways most cant, Nyssa falls into the same camp to a degree and unlike Tacita she is outright stronger than Nat from a raw power perspective. 7. Nat was actively doing things that made the fight harder or less efficient for him than it should have been, which he outright mentions when he chooses to engage melee knowing damn well she is better at him at it, and has higher output than he has all round in everything but mana, because his main goal here was to gain skills upgrades. While it is unlikely he would have won, if he fought with the intention of straight murder the fight would have probably gone on longer. 8. Considering there is quite a bit before the tutorial as a whole ends, it makes sense from a story perspective to have someone at a similar level, capable of matching or slightly surpassing Nat for a bit longer, I don't understand why people are complaining so hard, when there is quite literally only 1 individual at his level who is his match at this point, Nat can practically walk sideways through the beyond with no equal, Nyssa is literally his one and only comparable, no one else comes even close. Why people are mad that the singular character established to be that much stronger than him won is beyond me, it just makes the anticipation for when the true one on one where the factors are balanced out occurs happens higher. 9. Protagonists who do not lose are kinda boring.

Youkai-sama

Yeah, Nate seems extremely Ace.

Bob

He also got also absolutely good at finding stealthy attacker, see the competition in the glass cube, that is due to the training with unmoving sculpture with lissandra. Improving his combat instinct is not seen with skills, is long but very useful.

Kkats1

A story after the tutorial? What do you mean? The story is the tutorial. Be kinda weird to read "Hell difficulty tutorial" not in the tutorial. 🙃

John

Also as mentioned by Nat, she is not using any Mana so she is basicly countering him. Also he was doing stupid fistfights - instead of flying bombardments

Caramellato

Yet, that is what it will one day become. As all tutorials must come to an end, so too, must the true journey begin. (…and PussiFraud get bent)

Arch Fiend

Some of you forgot the price of her power and the things we have heard from powerful people even talking about Nyssa, you can't seriously have though he'd win right?

haomakk

Nyssa is just insanely strong. I think this will make it more satisfying when he challenges her again and defeats her
