Here's the next instalment of "Only In Japan", this time focused on the game 'The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls' released for GameBoy in 1992. The soundtrack was written by Kazumi Totaka, who you undoubtedly know from his work on Animal Crossing, the Wii Shop Theme, Links Awakening, and others, but The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls has gotta be my favourite of his output. It may even by my favourite soundtrack, period. Enjoy!

My FAVOURITE Soundtrack?? The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls || ONLY IN JAPAN

Japan only GameBoy title "Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru", or "The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls", features one of my favourite game soundtracks of all time. Written by the legendary Kazumi Totaka, the music hits this perfect middle ground of melodicism, unique and colourful harmony, and thematic unity that really hits me. Follow along as I breakdown some of my favourite tracks and get into how Totaka worked around the limitations of the GameBoy soundchip when writing this great work!
