Back in the days before streaming and cable, you had to walk up to the TV and twist that satisfyingly clicky knob to flip through a couple dozen stations. During that period of my childhood, I became obsessed with cooking infomercials. Ron Popeil was a celebrity to me, and I loved the idea of single products that could replace a whole lineup of others. Of course, those promises were rarely true.

So it’s not without a hint of irony that, 35 years later, I’m here saying this one really does replace multiple appliances you may own—or have held off buying because you don’t have the space for a dehydrator, air fryer, or steam toaster.

Yesterday I hinted at a few collaborative products I've been working on. I'm really proud to introduce the first one: the new Wonder Oven Pro, which I developed with LA-based brand Our Place to produce in my signature Pistachio color (with Golden Yolk and Guava Pink accents). As someone who’s long relied more on my countertop oven than my full-sized one, this project has been a labor of love. I am not the kind of person to put my name on a product until I'm confident that it lives up to my rigorous standards, and this one is something that genuinely improves my own cooking life—I hope it can do the same for you.

I chose to collaborate with Our Place because not only do they have a fantastic track record of creating carefully considered, cutting edge cooking tools for home cooks, but they do it with style and joy.

I've been testing prototypes and production models of this oven extensively in my home kitchen as well as at the Our Place test kitchens for months now, working closely with their designers, chefs, engineers, and scientists in order to ensure that every detail works exactly the way I would like it to. The result is that I now finally have a countertop oven that not only performs all the tasks of a standard countertop oven—convection roasting, baking, toasting, broiling, reheating—but also dehydrates produce and meats, proofs doughs, air-fries, and—with its steam-infusion tech—makes the crispest, most moist toast I’ve ever had.

The Features

This oven expands on the versatility of their line of Wonder Ovens by adding some amazing new features and modes:

Powerful quartz heating elements that will broil, bake, roast, toast, and reheat faster and better than your full-sized oven.

Proofing mode that will allow you to proof dough at precise temperatures as low as 80°F for faster bread, pizza, and pastries.

Dehydrate mode that combines low temperatures and moving air to dry fresh fruits or jerky. Perfect for my kids when I've got fruit on the counter that won't get finished before it over-ripens.

Air-fry mode that combines high heat with a powerful optimized convection fan for crisp, browned crusts on wings, crunchy potatoes, frizzled broccoli and brussels sprouts, re-heated fried chicken that tastes fresh out of the fryer, and anything else you'd typically cook in a standalone air fryer.

Steam-Infusion toasting and baking for superior crusts and toasting.

Digital controls that allow you to control precise heat, timing, and cooking modes.

Non-toxic, non-stick ceramic bakeware in Golden Yolk color (including a sheet tray, a deep baking pan/pizza pan, and a muffin pan if you order with the Chef's Kit)

A satisfyingly clicky button in my signature Guava Pink color for satisfying clicking.

Like all Our Place products, the Wonder Oven Pro is as much a design piece as it is a tool to improve your cooking. I love the way the Pistachio looks in my kitchen, but it comes in a range of other colors (and stainless steel) as well. It's everything I've wanted in a countertop but have not been able to find in a single tool, yet.

Exciting!! How does the steam infusion toast function on this compare to Balmuda's?

Niraj Sanghvi

Kenji, it seems like most standalone air fryers are generally more effective than their counterparts that are part of a combination convection oven due to their top down fan placement versus horizontal airflow perpendicular to the heat source(s). Can you share if there was anything done differently here to improve upon that, or is that just a physical limitation of this form factor where you can just try to get close to the effectiveness of a standalone air fryer, but never quite the same? It definitely might still be worth the trade-off for many just to avoid having a second large countertop footprint. (FWIW I still ordered this to replace my aged Breville non-air frying convection oven that was on its last legs 😄)

Sounds ideal for our kitchen at the moment - any idea if it'll be coming to the UK? Looks like we can get the standard Wonder Oven here, so fingers crossed for the Pro arriving too

hi Kenji, what are your toughts on the ANOVA 2? unfortunately Our Place don't deliver to Singapore so I cant get one

Niraj Sanghvi

Well, I can answer my own question for anyone else that's interested because my "ships by end of November" oven pre-order arrived today! This oven does have a large top down fan rather than one on the side (it seemed that way from the product photos, but there was no angle or mention in the description that confirmed it). So it should be more effective as an air fryer than most other convection ovens that bolted on an air frying feature that still uses horizontal airflow.

Any chance the discount code could be made to work in the Canada store?

James Kenji Lopez-Alt

Oh yes I’m sorry I didn’t reply! That’s part of the reason the control space is on the top as opposed to side. Fan on top for better air frying and smaller footprint!

James Kenji Lopez-Alt

It works the same way! There’s a small boiler at the bottom. You pour water into the top during the cycle and it boils to add steam. The toast cycle is not as advanced as the Balmuda which cycles through multiple heat setting during the toast, so in that sense it’s more like a standard toaster.

Niraj Sanghvi

No worries, thanks Kenji! I'm already thinking about making that pepperoni pizza recipe you posted 😄

I am from 2 interests that a oven like this fit in, cooking and survival. Having multi use items save space, and is just logical. I will be using the Wonder Oven a lot for the convection oven (air fryer) and toaster oven function, but also plan on using it as a dehydrator, and other ideas are coming to me as this replaces other tools in my kitchen.

didn't mean to send the post yet as I have more to add. I am hoping this replaces my air fryer and toaster oven to start with, but I also have a nuwave convection oven and a dehydrator that are too big to keep on the counter, that I am able to replace with something more accessible. I want to try it out with the broiler function, as I am playing with sort of sous vide in my instant pot, and want to add the browning before serving. The roasting function will also get some use as what I use now is smaller, one and two person appliances, and I can see this is large enough for a Cornish hen or spring chicken, or a small to mid sized roast that I couldn't do before. I stopped baking, partly due to not having the room, partly due to my lo-carb diet so the proofing function won't be that priority as it used to be. At least 2 items are taking off my counter top and 2 items from the pantry will be removed from rotation, so that helps to clear my kitchen. I look forward to your episodes that use the many functions of this oven, and will give me more ideas that I can use for my meal planning.

I just got this oven and have enjoyed it so far!
