'Twas a Prune Plum Palooza!

Thank you to the Frienjis who came out to our little prune plum palooza community event last week! In case you missed it: Kenji recruited the team to help pick an excess of prune plums growing in his backyard and this quickly turned into an idea for an impromptu giveaway for local Frienjis.

After an hour of picking plums, and taste-testing the accompanying recipe, our team headed down to Leschi Park and set up on the corner, complete with a folding table and hand-drawn sign—in total lemonade stand–style.

Unsuspecting passersby and Frienjis alike (who would have seen the invitation on Instagram) started trickling in and left richer in stone fruits for it! Our team was richer, too, for the chance to talk to so many of you face-to-face and hear your anecdotes from the kitchen. If you were someone who stopped by, drop a comment below!

And if you missed it, you can still enjoy the new free recipe, Caramelized Plum Cornbread Cake, with whatever stone fruits suit you best.

Peak Sandwich Season

Whether you're enjoying them on the beach after a long swim or getting back in the practice of making them for the back-to-school season, this time of year just screams for a good sandwich. Here's a few recipes to get you on a roll:

The best BLT requires the best tomatoes. Luckily, their season is here. Take advantage of it while you can!

McRib season, on the other hand, is not quite here yet. That shouldn't stop you from enjoying this concoction of liquid smoke, sugar, and salt with this do-it-yourself version.

Sandwiches made with leftovers are the best. Sandwiches made with meatloaf leftovers are the best of the best.

A great Italian sub is all about engineering: sturdy bread, precise layering, and patience. This recipe walks you through each step to achieving the perfect final result.

The humble egg salad sando is hard to go wrong with. Try this fluffy, Japanese konbini-inspired iteration or this version featuring a whole jammy egg in the center.

Runny yolks are more fitting for this scallion pancake breakfast sandwich. It's truly outrageous... so you should definitely try it for yourself.

(American) football season is arriving soon and if you need a sandwich to serve a crowd, this chicken parm sandwich can be made as individual hoagies or a party-size sandwich.

And finally, when cravings hit after the school day is over, you could adopt this take on the LA Hot for some real indulgence in big flavor.
