I know a lot of you are excited for us to dive into this absolute CLASSIC! I've heard the best things. I know this will be super nostalgic for a lot of you, so I hope you enjoy my reactions!

If you don't know, Lord of the Rings was created by JRR Tolkien with the explicit purpose of giving England its own folklore. Tolkien was a member of the "Inklings" literary group of Oxford (beginning in the 1930s) along with CS Lewis - the whole thing is a pretty incredible collective of literary minds.

I have rarely been as thrilled to see a reaction posted. I can't wait to see you take this journey. Without exaggeration, it will change you. Keep up the great work.

Alyssa Dyson

yay most anticipated drop since ROTS 💜

Jason

Luckily it is!

Alyssa Dyson

Mostly shot in new Zealand with barely any cgi they only used it when they 100% needed to.

Alyssa Dyson

is it? usually notice from the opening when Isildur is standing before mount doom and doesnt throw the ring in. didnt see that.

There are few things in life that give me more joy than people discovering LotR for the first time. I regularly persuade friends of mine to watch the trilogy with me and they all love it. :-) A few notes: - The filmmakers actually planted vegetables and other plants in the Shire several months before shooting the movie - that's how much they cared to make it look real and lived-in. - Most of the movie was shot in New Zealand, the home country of the movie's director, Peter Jackson. The trilogy led to a HUGE boom for New Zealand's tourist industry. - Speaking of Peter Jackson, he looks and behaves a lot like a hobbit himself. When they asked him at the Oscars what label of suit he was wearing, he said he didn't know; he just borrowed a suit from a friend because he doesn't own one. What a legend. :-D - The actor who plays Saruman is the legendary Christopher Lee (R.I.P.), who holds the record for most movie appearances ever. You've seen him as Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequels. Lee read the entire LotR trilogy at least once every year, which even to me sounds insane. :-D - The Legolas actor who looked familiar to you is Orlando Bloom. Apart from LotR, he's mostly famous for playing Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Also: 99 % of people watching Stranger things: "OMG, it's Sam from LotR!" You watching LotR: "OMG, it's Bob from Stranger Things!" It's so funny to see it the other way round. :-D

“I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.” lmao fav LOTR quote...just one of my fav quotes tbh lol

Kevin Karst

It's definitely the Extended Edition. The whole "Concerning Hobbits" part is only in the Extended Edition, as well as one scene at the Green Dragon or the Midgewater Marshes scene, for example.

JoshB

I remember in Stranger Things season 2 that you were disappointed that Joyce was with Bob instead of Hopper. Lord of the Rings fans figured that if anyone could steal Joyce from Hopper, it's Samwise Gamgee.

Peppermint

Theres so much that went into making this series. The elf Language was created by Tolkien, the blacksmithing orcs were actual blacksmiths, and they were actually smithing. Aragorn The actor trained under a professional swordsman and does all of his fighting himself. There's a lot more but I don't want to give anything away until you've seen more so I don't risk spoiling anything. I'm so excited for you watch this series. Another movie that has really good world building is Dinotopia. (a bit more light hearted lol)

Monkey D. Gaddafi

if something is perfect and you add stuff, you end up with less.

Sarah_M

"I ain't been droppin no eaves sir, honest!" is just iconic! 😂 The Hobbits are so pure. Food, drink, weed & all the comforts home home. Bless. So excited to watch your LOTR's journey. It's so darn special (some might even say, precious).

Camelot VFX

You should definitely watch the Hobbit after this, to see Bilbo's adventure!

Favorite movie trilogy.. Favorite Youtube/reactor.. Better than Christmas!!

Shandler

This was great fun. Can’t wait to see your reactions to the rest of the trilogy.

Gabriela Popescu

How do I wait for part twooo, absolutely loved your reaction!!! Omg I can’t wait for you to experience the rest!!

SJ Lute

For a first time viewer, I was super impressed with the thoughfulness you showed. Example: Wondering aloud why Bilbo did not seem corrupted by the ring, and then immediately figuring it out!

Catherine Conrad

So excited for you to experience this epic story. I got to see this when it first came out in theaters. It was Christmas time, and we were visiting family. We wanted to go see the first Harry Potter movie, but it was sold out. Instead we decided to see this movie. Like you, I knew absolutely nothing about the story. But I was also hooked within the first few minutes. It just keeps getting better!

Seelia

Wow...finally Sofie! I've been watching your reactions for a long time! I remember when you discovered Dimash! 😍 Followed your GoT videos, Buffy, Angel, VD, etc. I'm one of those who has been waiting for you to catch up with TLOTR! ❤❤❤ I recommend all the behind the scenes also! It's such a rich world and you will just want to immerse yourself with more! It is known. 😅😘

Tys van Zeijl

love your reaction, just knew i had to watch the uncut version here on patreon within 5 mins. Just an FYI, 1:30:00 aragorn had already been traveling for weeks with the hobbits by the time frodo got stabbed. And futhermore its also simply the fight against evil, and the sadness of the horror which has happened to Frodo which could definitely be cause for weeping for most good/honorable characters in Tolkiens stories.

Blackeyedlily

In this world there is the Seen and the Unseen realms. Some beings are able to dwell in both realms. The Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths exist only in the Unseen Realm, as they have become wraiths. They have to wear those black cloaks to give themselves a form that is visible in the Seen world. When Frodo puts on the Ring he enters the Unseen Realm. That is why he becomes invisible and why he could see the true forms of the Nazgûl. Many of the elves also exist in both realms. Especially those who have been to the Undying Land, which I won’t even begin to explain what that means here, as it gets deep into the lore. But that is why Arwen appeared like she did to Frodo when he was hovering on the edge of the two realms after being stabbed. You can sort of equate the Unseen realm with a spirit realm. Good and evil beings can exist in both realm. A lot of people tend to think that putting on the Ring simply makes you invisible. But there is much more to it than that.

Blackeyedlily

Peter Jackson had a background in Horror movies directing before the Lord of the Rings. That is why you can see the horror influence. But I never liked the jump scare of the scene between Frodo and Bilbo in Rivendell when Bilbo wants to hold the ring again. Here is the quote of that scene in the book: Frodo found that while he slept the Ring had been hung about his neck on a new chain, light but strong. Slowly he drew it out. Bilbo put out his hand. But Frodo quickly drew back the Ring. To his distress and amazement he found that he was no longer looking at Bilbo; a shadow seemed to have fallen between them, and through it he found himself eyeing a little wrinkled creature with a hungry face and bony groping hands. He felt a desire to strike him. The music and singing round them seemed to falter, and a silence fell. Bilbo looked quickly at Frodo’s face and passed his hand across his eyes. ‘I understand now,’ he said. ‘Put it away! I am sorry: sorry you have come in for this burden; sorry about everything. Don’t adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story. Well, it can’t be helped. I wonder if it’s any good trying to finish my book? But don’t let’s worry about it now – let’s have some real News! Tell me all about the Shire!’ Frodo hid the Ring away, and the shadow passed leaving hardly a shred of memory. I understand why Peter Jackson filmed it the way he did. But everyone is always a little freaked out by that jump scare, and they think that Bilbo actually morphs into something else. But it’s more of how Frodo can see the danger of the ring and the damage it can cause by looking at how it affects Bilbo in this moment

William

"Is he seriously wiping the floor with Gandalf anti-clockwise..." be a little more discrete with your brilliance, please.

Danny Hahn

And, don’t forget that in the books when Gandalf left Frodo at Bag End with the ring to find out more about it, years passed by before he came back to Frodo. During that time he hunted Gollum with Aragorn to find out what he knew about Bilbo. Aragorn was also supposed to meet Gandalf and Frodo in Bree. Aragorn knew about Frodo and his quest for years before ever meeting him. The Movies have to move at a much faster pace than the Books do. That’s why the somewhat odd behaviours of the Characters

Tom

48:20 "an new world, a new adventure, I think it'll be fun!" Ummmm.... Sofie? I hate to point it out... but...

Tom

And used a LOT of large scale models, not minitures - "bigatures"!

I was also super impressed by her insight, I watched the cut version on Youtube and knew I had to watch her reactions uncut here on Patreon. Finally a reactor that is engaged with the story and perceptive to the subtle things that make this trilogy so awesome!

The prologue was actually the last thing they finished for the first film. It gave them tons of trouble. They rewrote it and reworked it, storyboarded it, threw it out, again and again. Had Gandalf narrating it, then Galadriel, etc. etc. Finally, they pulled from the footage and voiceover, this masterpiece of an opening.

11:40 I can't get over how close you were to quoting Tolkien himself. You understood the message immediately. "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world" ~ J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit

Squeebers

38:30 Sorry last thing for this one, unless something new pops up that I haven't noticed. They say Took wrong here. They say it like the word took. But it's pronounced like the word too then you ad the K sound. They don't get it wrong at any other point I don't think. But I think the reason they got it wrong here is because it was early on and they just didn't know.

I wish I was old enough to watch these in theaters when they came out! I am actually jealous! I wish I had that experience! I, likewise, didn't have that experience with Harry Potter either. It's fine, though. My parents sat me down to watch these when I was about to turn 16. It was around 8pm when we started FotR and it ended up being close to midnight before we were done. I was like, "Whoah I got to stay up so late! That was a cool movie!" I just wanted to watch the next one immediately. I was obsessed.

Squeebers

1:19:40 In the book, it is kinda Aragorn's fault that Frodo got hurt. He blames himself pretty harshly. Making it all the more motivation for him to get Frodo through this quest. To make up for his, Strider's (Aragorn's) lapse in judgement.

Squeebers

1:24:41 Technically not a "wood-elf" at least, I don't think so, since she is from Rivendell. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe she is one of the half-elven. That's my understanding from the book, anyway.

Squeebers

1:52:57 I never noticed the wink at Elrond that Gandalf gave! OMG! That's amazing! Gandalf just said, "He will become what he was born to become. Don't worry Elrond." All in one wink.

Ant

I’m thoroughly enjoying how intuitive you are. It’s evident that you haven’t encountered these before, yet your instincts are terrific. Experiencing them vicariously through you is truly delightful. Also, I live just fifteen minutes away from Hobbiton, and agree, it’s an exceptionally beautiful place.

Gigi

binging these on thanksgiving weekend this year ❤️❤️ best reaction ever sofie

T3RS1

Hey I'm new here. Still remember when I was watching those with Harry Potter when I was 11 and 12 ... best time of my life. 20 years ago. Those movies shaped who I am today.

Axle101

I came across your LOTR reaction videos on YouTube yesterday and just wanted to thank you. Your investment, emotion and understanding of the story somehow elevated the trilogy for me and was quite possibly one of the best things I have ever watched on YouTube. When I saw you had extended versions on patreon it was an easy purchase. Thank you so much ☺️

Martin Campeau

God damn you're smart! That's why I subscribed. Very good reaction video.
