Yay the Maleficent storyline is almost over, I can finally come back ! I literally cannot stomach Emma’s childish behavior towards her parents in this season, like being mad is one thing, but stomping around like a 3 year old is another. Especially given how little “punishment” she had to endure after she tried to take Henry away from His home, all so she could find what feels like home to HER. That was screwed up that, as a mother, she’d try to choose her own happiness and was willing to chuck his just because She didn’t feel at home... She’s made plenty of parenting screw ups and lied to her child too….For Her OWN Benefit. More Than Once. She’s such a hypocrite. If onlyyy she’d had to endure, from Henry, ONE-TENTH of what she put her parents through, each time she chose herself and her own feelings Over her son..I couldn’t wait for this storyline to end

Hook really has a way of getting through to Emma because he's worked so hard to earn her trust. Enough for her to let down her defenses and be open with him. I think she reacted so strongly to her parents withholding something significant from her because she's in the process of unlearning to expect betrayal and abandonment from people, and it's still hard for her despite the progress she's making. One of her biggest fears is someone she puts her trust in not being who she thought they were, as this has happened to her to a traumatizing extent throughout her life. That's why she was so focused on the idea of them misrepresenting themselves to her when she trusted them. Her reaction may seem disproportionate to people but it's because it touches her specific traumas. She's come a long way from the woman who left Hook on the beanstalk because she couldn't take a chance that she was wrong about him, but the fear of betrayal and abandonment is still a part of her.

But that doesn’t excuse it considering she did the same thing. Perhaps if she hadn’t. She Also abandoned her child. Also has lied to him. And one of the characters should have told her that to her face. That if she deserved Henry’s forgiveness, then they deserve hers, period. From Henry’s POV, she too showed herself to be someone different than who he thought when she lied about his father To Protect Herself. She chose to put herself before her child, multiple times, which as a mother is just as bad. So she had no right to get on her high horse over her parents, regardless of what her past was or what traumas she had.

She has every right to get on her high horse. That is exactly what Snow and David have been doing this whole time, no? Judging others on their morality while having their own flaws. The Emma who lied about Neil and wanted to leave storybrooke would have been told not to do so by her parents, the same parents who then revealed they were also lying to her. It’s a level of hypocrisy that Emma just hasn’t matched, which gives her a right to be mad in my opinion Wanting to leave a town her son was just kidnapped to another land in is not “screwed up”. And hiding a secret about your sons “dead beat” father who broke your heart is not on the same level as what The Charmings did. From her perspective, Emma was a victim with Neil, it was her story that she struggled to tell. Snow and David were perpetrators with Maleficent, they were keeping secrets about what they did to someone else. Yes, still their stories but the context is much different. Oh and “abandoning” Henry is the furthest from what Emma did. That is not what giving up your child up for adoption is. Unless you’re referring to another moment in the show

Something I think that doesn’t get brought up enough - Zelena more or less (arguably more) did the same thing to Robin that Faith did to Riley in BtVS and no one really seems to take into account how that made either of them feel. It’s magical SA and it’s gross and I hate it as a plot point.

Shannon

Yeah, no. Emma should have handled the Neil situation differently, true, but the Charmings flat out sacrificed someone’s SOUL because they wanted to cheat the system for a good kid. Not the same.

FACTS just like henry emma can be super annoying she can accept the author made regina a villain when he didnt but not the fact the author made the apprentice do an evil act
