This has truly been an incredible experience guys! I can honestly say my expectations wouldn't dream of coming close to what these films actually are. The Lord of the Rings has quickly become so special to me and I'm so happy I get to share this journey with all of you.

Can't wait for Return of the King! These movies are so good... nothing else really comes close. And to think, they're so old I had them on VHS as a kid growing up...

Garrick Smalley

"Never piss off a tree in a fantasy movie" Sofie wins!

Ashley

The scene that makes Smeagol believe Frodo betrayed him is always one of the hardest to watch for me.

Namikaza

Now that's how you do a battle in the night. Take notice GOT😂

You might enjoy knowing that Celeborn and Galadriel in Lothlorien had a daughter. That daughter grew up to marry Elrond. So Arwen is Elrond's daughter and Galadriel's granddaughter. Also, you said "I really need a map." if you ever feel a bit lost on the geography, there are countless maps out there. They really put the "where are they?" and "how far do they have to go" into perspective.

It might be an epic task, but once you have watched all three movies, you might want to check out the extended edition appendices from the dvd releases. I hope it's ok to share a link here, but someone has uploaded them to YT. Could even make a fantastic set of reactions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo30CbcgtE0&list=PLRzqXH8K0HzHLIkb6g9PcXtaKBpFpomPB This playlist covers all three films. He has also uploaded playlists for each film individually. There are the best behind the scenes ever done for film. Also if you interested in learning more about the lore, as well as the changes the films made, there are some amazing online resources. Nerd of the Rings on YT has compiled an epic collection and it is very easy to follow. As well as Man of the West. Others may have other recommendations. A lot of people recommend The Silmarillion as the next go to, but it is quite heavy. It's not a novel but chronicles events. A couple of years ago Brian Sibly edited many of the texts into a book called the Fall of Numenor and it's an amazing book to start a lore journey with and less overwhelming. It's also available on Audible. I am loving these reactions. Thank you for taking the time to do them.

I remember someone asking Peter Jackson about where the lighting was coming from in some of these darker scenes and he said, from the same place the music comes from, or something to that effect. Made sense to me.

Gabriela Popescu

Stayed up until 3am to watch both parts 😂 such an amazing reaction as always! I can’t wait for you to watch the final installment, for me it’s my favourite! But also sad we’re 2/3 of the way to the end haha. Loved watching your reaction ❤️

Harry Potter next hehe

Be sure to listen to the song in the end credits. It's titled "Gollum's Song" and is really haunting.

Any idea when your gonna start LORD OF THE RINGS RETURN OF THE KING

Just a little background on the Lord of the Rings and author J.R.R. Tolkien Much of the themes in the book and movie reflect his experience in World War I, particularly in the Battle of Somme, one of the worst battles in War, where modern chemical weapons were deployed. Sauroman's mind of "metal and wheels" reflect the effects of industrialization on both war but as we see now our lives today which are dependent on "machines" - a.i. etc where we just respond and no longer ponder the simpler things of life.

You coaxed me here from youtube because patience is not one of my virtues. In case you are interested in having lore-questions answered (spoiler free), imma do that, because no sane human can be asked to read up on ALL of the lore of Tolkiens world. A lot of it isn't even explained in the books. Aragorn is an heir to the direct line of the Kings of the "Men of the West" so called, because their original Kingdom was on an island to the West of the Continent LotR takes place on. It isn't there anymore but thats not important. This Kingdom, Numenor, was founded by the Brother of Elrond. Elrond, his brother and therefore also Arwen are all "half-Elves", descended from the first Human/Elf mixed couple. They have the choice to either live as elves or humans, but once they go human, they can't go back and their choice to be "mortal" and live as "humans" does not mean that they will have a human lifespan. "Humanized" half-elves still go on for a thousand years plus, unless dying from illness or, obviously, being killed. While all of the Humans from that Kingdom had longer lifespans than "lesser men" (about double of real world humans), the line of kings could life up to 4-500 years. How strong the strength of that blood comes through varies but is said to be particularly strong in our boy Aragorn. This by the way also means that technically Arwen and Aragorn are blood related, if you wanna be particular about it. Although on his side its like 6000 years or an estimated 300 generations, making it rather meaningless.

Gandalf, while being immensely powerful in terms of magic, especially after his "death", is still not in middle earth to be big on displaying a lot of power himself and forcing the world to obey his will. You have already deduced that he is some kind of angel and that fits pretty well. He is an agent of the (good) higher powers of this world BUT his purpose is explicitly to aid, advise, guide and inspire, NOT to take power and split the sky calling lightning on his enemies. Lets say that said higher powers had some bad hickups with stuff like that in the past.

Blackeyedlily

I love the moment of Wormtongue shedding a tear. I believe he thought that aligning himself with Saruman would get him what he wanted. Primarily power and Eowyn. But I don’t think that he ever thought it would mean the total decimation of his people. I think this is his moment of recognition of what he has actually played a role in.

Absolutely perfect reaction!! Your empathy and attentiveness are so so strong and having watched these again and again since I was a little girl 20+ years ago you caught things I still haven't, seriously great! I love these movies so much. The books that inspired them too. I do try my best to live my life by them and I have a bit of a hobby at this point of watching reactions to get the perspectives of others about them. Honestly, they are my go-to when I need to let myself feel any emotion under the sun. These cover them all in so many ways at once that it feels like I'm looking at human art for the first time, every single time ♥ Glad you're enjoying looking forward to RotK and Princess Bride so much!

Amy the Defiant

I think, not to ramble sleep deprived nonsense for too long, part of the reason these are so special is that these comfort my brain and heart together if that makes sense. Like it's medicine for the both of them at once. These speak to all of me instead of just choosing a lane to go for my emotions or pure cold logic. And it physically feels like a warm hug 🤗 Anyway thanks for posting these they helped me through a rough night just now, take care everyone be kind to yourselves 💕

Bonjour Sophie ! Wow!

Grima was crying because he realised the side he's chosen is evil.

My respect for your insight, sense of humour & thoughtfulness has only grown having watched your reaction - and your thoughts - as you saw this film, Sofie. You are one remarkable young lady.

When Gandalf and the Rohirrim arrive at Helms Deep, man I get goosebumps every single time! Such an epic scene and the score😍

I'm a bit late, but regarding your question as to how long Aragorn can live, he canonically lives to the ripe age of 250 years young. Yes, Valinor/the Undying Lands are the original homeland of the Elves, with the original Elven colonists arriving at Middle Earth approximately 6,000 years before the events of the film, if I recall correctly. Regarding the difference between Orcs and Uruk-hai, the Uruk-hai are essentially a cross between Orcs and Men. They're larger, stronger, more durable, more disciplined, and at least as ruthless and aggressive. And yes, they're also more intelligent than your typical Orc. In a very real sense they're super-Orcs. I know you've already finished, but I have to say that I'm absolutely loving these reactions you've made. I look forward to finishing the trilogy tomorrow night!

The moment when you say: " they describe Sauron like lovecraftian being " you had me

John Walker Is That Dude

Aragorn is responsible for this being this bad he told Theoden to liek him go he wanted to kill Grimma if he let the king do what he wanted Saruman would t have known about the weak point at Helms Deep. This is 100% on Aragorns meddling behind

I'm late to this but about the "scoring game" of Legolas and Gimli - Peter Jackson suffers heavily from "Elf-Bias" when he made this adaptation of Lord of the Rings, it's one of the Film's biggest failings. He essentially made Legolas look godly while he turned Gimli into a joke character, when canonically, in the books Gimli is by far the better fighter. He only gets a few great moments to shine in the films, when in the books he outclasses Legolas in basically every fight they get into. It's written that way because Tolkien experienced the Wars of our world, and though the Dwarves are rough and rugged, enjoy brawling and drinking and crafting and mining - all this plays into the "roughneck" attitude of season and grizzled war veterans. They are like the best of the best when it comes to fighting in middle earth. The films down play all of this because of the aforementioned "Elf-Bias" and with how popular they are, most people who see Elves and Dwarves in media now write them or expect them to be similar to these films. that's how influential these films have been, because thats how most people even know Tolkiens works, when its not even a pure adaptation, it is by far the best one, but it's not how Tolkien wrote certain characters. In later "The Hobbit" films, the changes Peter Jackson made are even more egregious though.. To explain what I mean by "better fighters"; while the Elves are ethereal, and have great magic and bow skills and dexterity, the Dwarves of Tolkien's books says that the Dwarves are far, far better in melee combat. essential being 5 ft tall balls of rippling muscle and steely sinew. Dwarves have thicker skin and rock solid muscles. Dwarves with great weapons (like 2 handed axes and hammers) are the strongest race in melee combat. Not only are they beyond strong physically compared to men and Elves, they are the better craftsmen (Dwarven weapons are of higher quality than elven works, at least those not imbued with Elven magics..) and can wear thicker, heavier armour with no loss of dexterity... It's why during all these events in the movies, the Dwarves in the northern lands fought against other armies of Sauron - solo and unaided - and literally held them back for months or years, from within their fortress-cities under the mountains.

Kaljasser

Have to agree - I've always been heavily fascinated about Tolkien's Dwarves and their culture, and Gimli was too much of comedic relief in these films, which saddens me a little. Despite that, I love these movies to death.

Squeebers

I disagree. It was the right thing to do to stop Theoden from killing Grima in front of his people after just having been in a stupor for so long. His first impression on his kingdom after such a hard time shouldn't have been their king killing in anger. Plus, Grima did have a part to play yet. For good or ill (both). I think it's unfair to say it was a bad thing to let Grima live. However, it may be said that Grima shouldn't have been let go. But he got away regardless.

When I saw where you were leaving off, I was like, “OOOOoo we gonna start with some Arwen and Aragorn!” For context, everything that is in this sequence at the beginning of this part is a flashback to before the fellowship left Rivendell. Also, I like this bit because it kinda shows in the best way you possibly can show it that Aragorn can “rest” while still “awake” He is sitting there and he kind of “dozes” off and we get these flashback scenes. Aragorn does need actual sleep. But he can go longer without it than normal men and hobbits and such because he’s got a bit of ancient elf in him. Elves don’t need sleep at all. They can walk around with eyes open and be actually resting. Aragorn can do this but to a lesser degree in the books. 4:15 He just wants what is best for her. And Arwen’s father Elrond made it seem like her leaving is what is best for her. But this always makes me sad. It’s not what either of them want!! They are literally perfect for each other. Even when Aragorn looks at Eowyn he can’t help but think of Arwen because he loves her, only her. I am so glad he never reciprocates Eowyn’s feelings in the movies or the books. And I really like that you took it as him respecting her father’s wishes. 5:30 He lives to be 210 years old 6:37 “what the hell is this?” something that doesn’t happen in the books. Literally everything in this sequence Peter Jackson put in because he wanted to separate Aragorn for a bit. Don’t ask me why. 8:27 So, Orlando had just fallen off a horse and cracked his rib so he couldn’t perform the stunt they had planned to get him on the horse. It got to post-production and Peter had to send this shot in to have them CGI Legolas onto the horse. Which is the weirdest way they could’ve CGIed him onto the horse, haha. But in the behind the scenes they had him stick his fist up and do a hop. 10:43 for people who know the books this fake-out death made them go, “Bruh, we know he makes it! What are you doing Jackson?” But I really like the scene that comes from this. Not fooling you with his fake out death either it seems 11:32 OMG! You are right! Legolas did lose his temper! That happens only twice. Here and later at Helm’s Deep. I thought it was just the once at Helm’s Deep. But he totally lost it here, too. 19:29 They had a stunt guy do this for Viggo because it was a real river that got pretty rapid. But he insisted upon doing it himself afterward. He had on more weight than the stunt guy because he had his sword and costume and such. He flowed to a different point and was sucked against a rock and was pulled under. He would’ve been trapped there if he hadn’t been able to kick off the bottom. He nearly drowned. But they got the shots they needed. And amazingly, when he came up, he STAYED in character. After having a near death experience. LIKE WHAT?! Perfect Aragorn. 20:12 I know I just praised Viggo as Aragorn, but I MUST do it again. This horse’s name is Uraeus. He was a last minute replacement horse to do this scene with Viggo. Viggo went to the stable as often as possible to help train Uraeus to do this routine with him. Even spending the night there sometimes. The kisses the horse gave him weren’t planned, Uraeus just did it. After the shoot, the horses that were purchased and trained for the movie had to be auctioned off. Viggo bid on Uraeus and purchased him. As well as another horse named Florian , I think, for the stunt rider for Arwen. Who had bonded with that horse during filming but couldn’t afford him herself. Viggo is the best! I swear. No one else could’ve or would’ve played him well enough. Viggo IS Aragorn as far as I’m concerned. 21:57 Yes, kind of. When Aragorn inevitably dies, Arwen will not have aged a day, I am pretty sure. It is my understanding that having given her love to him means that when he dies, she will be so overcome by grief that her very spirit will long for death and she will pass away after a long time roaming the earth in grief and despair. After passing. Her spirit may roam the earth. But I think it would go to the care of Mandos in the Halls of Awaiting. Maybe… I could be wrong though. I haven’t finished reading the Silmarillion yet and I am waiting til I’ve done that to read the Appendices in the Return of the King. Tolkien describes Men as having the gift of mortality. It is a blessing to have an ending. 25:20 This is the mid-movie prologue. LOL! That’s what Peter calls it. Galadriel is speaking telepathically to Elrond from Lothlorien. 29:20 Time for the geography lesson! 32:43 In the book, literally all Faramir wants when talking to Frodo and Sam is to learn of his brother’s death. He asks about “Isildur’s Bane” only for that. Therefore, when the ring tries to corrupt him, Faramir’s conversation always goes back to his brother. The ring cannot offer him anything that would make Faramir corrupted. Because he is driven by one of the purest things one can be driven by. Love for a sibling/family member. There is one point in the conversation in the book when you can tell Faramir is less angry and comes to the understanding that this thing “Isildur’s Bane” (the ring) was what drove Boromir to ruin. And that he wanted no part of it. At that point in the book, Faramir is literally the most gentlemanly, genuine, good-hearted man in the book (cave for maybe Aragorn). I see this as the ring not knowing what else to offer Faramir. The Ring probably made him think that bringing the Ring back to his father would win him his father’s love and respect. But Faramir, knowing that no matter what good thing he does his father will always think little of him. Especially with this new grief of Boromir dying. The Ring would’ve offered him the usual things too. Like, renown, power, respect from all, ruling the world, etc. But still, Faramir was too pure-hearted to fall for the Ring’s false-promises. The showrunners thought making Faramir like he is in the book would diminish the Ring’s power. I disagree. It merely shows that Faramir is literally too good at heart to be corrupted. The Ring has adverse effects on different individuals. Most of them, especially humans, are easily corrupted. Hobbits are kind and good-hearted and can hold it for longer with more subdued effects. Literally everyone it comes across. Everyone who holds it, gets corrupted. And Faramir in the book, doesn’t try to take it. For he knows. I like to think of Faramir as Tolkien’s way of showing us Boromir as he should have been. Just like Gandalf the White is Saruman, or rather Saruman as he should have been. Sorry for that long winded rant. But Faramir in the books is up there for my favorite character. Jockeying for position with Aragorn. 36:15 I hate Denethor. He’s one of those “love to hate” characters. The actor did a phenomenal job! Holy cow! 40:26 If anyone else had played Gollum, this wouldn’t be nearly as endearing and lovable! I love Gollum! Andy Serkis KILLED this role! Basically invented a whole new way of acting, while he was at it. Yeah, them beating up Smeagol isn’t this brutal in the book. And Faramir absolutely doesn’t just stand there and let the other men do it. 46:15 This is such a far cry from book Faramir, it’s insane! David Wenham was absolutely the perfect guy to play him though. He did an amazing job! 50:19 This is the best clip I have ever seen of someone opening a frickin door! 59:12 Legolas losing his temper enough to revert to his native tongue is everything and I can’t explain why. 59:30 I think you just voiced why I love this moment so much! 1:03:00 I am shocked you forgot that that is what Gandalf went to do. To retrieve Eomer and his band of exiles as well as any men as he can find on the way. 1:05:33 I LOVE LEGOLAS SO MUCH!!! Gets mad about 300 men and CHILDREN going to battle against 10,000 and loses his temper. Then apologizes for yelling! I can’t! He’s too good! And yes they are both so beautiful. 1:06:06 After reading the book, I have slight beef with this. The elves of Lothlorien are also fighting battles. They are defending their own borders, are getting to defend them, or have just got done defending them. They would not be able to show up here. PLus, Haldir showing up here meant that they needed to do something with them after they showed up at Helm’s Deep so Peter Jackson killed them all. Which doesn’t happen in the books. Pretty sure they take ships to Valinor after Sauron is defeated and Aragorn becomes king. Plus, it kills the stakes a bit. The constant downward spiral of tension that was being built up is now lessened slightly because of these elves showing up. I can’t be the only one that sees something wrong with this choice. 1:07:22 Although I do appreciate the awkwardness of Aragorn here. Does the proper Elvish greeting, stops midway and goes for straight up hugging Haldir. 1:08:20 I enjoy Legolas’ subtle smiles so much! 1:12:45 RIGHT! Why is it not the norm!? It adds so much to viewing enjoyment, honestly. 1:20:16 Dwarves are hardy fellows. Basically honey badgers. Take a fall, take hits and keep fighting. 1:20:50 I don’t know whose idea this was, but they are brilliant. The stuntguy did this a few times first then Orlando begged to do it for close ups and shockingly, they let him. Amazing moment that probably made Tolkien roll in his grave. 1:21:50 Don’t be sorry. It is an awesome sequence! I wish I was old enough to go see these movies in theaters. HECK! I wish they’d release them in theaters again! I would definitely go see them! 1:28:10 This will never not be awesome! Aragorn’s face when Gimli tells him to toss him is so amazing! 1:29:58 Apparently Orlando didn’t know that Legolas did this until he saw it at the premiere. He only knew he was doing takes with him shooting arrows in different ways. They surprised even the actor who played Legolas with the stuff Legolas did. Also, I am pretty sure the death count for both Gimli and Legolas would be higher if we were going off what is on screen. But in the book it was, in fact, Gimli 43 and Legolas 42. 1:34:30 Pippin for the win! 1:37:54 HE DOES KNOW BETTER IN THE BOOKS!!! They did Faramir dirty! 1:47:06 In the books Frodo and Sam never go to Osgiliath. Frodo doesn’t stand in front of a Nazgul and almost hand over the Ring. Nor does he almost kill Sam. But it’s a good sequence, honestly. And I really think it fits. And it leads into Sam’s awesome tear-jerking monologue! 1:49:45 His best friend nearly killed him and he gives one of the most heart-warming, yet simultaneously heart-wrenching speeches of all time immediately afterwards! I LOVE SAM! “Nothing dampens your spirits, does it, Sam?” ~ Frodo. Rosie Cotton is a lucky hobbit 1:51:15 Gollum and Faramir both heard Sam’s speech. 1:57:07 He has been working his whole life to hear these words from his father. But hearing them from a hobbit is more impactful than anything his father could say to him now. 1:58:48 I do like that Sam shows a bit of compassion to Gollum here.

Again. Sorry I love to leave long paragraphs on movies I really love in depth! Not sorry for the ones I will leave on Return of the King.
