Woho first \o/ Looking forward to this one! Fun fact (or urban legend, never seen this officially confirmed): my old school (King's Canterbury) was on the short list of "places to film Harry Potter" but then when they asked the Dean of Canterbury permission, he said no because "witchcraft". So I believe Rochester (one of our rivals we would play sports against) got the deal instead... Such a shame, our library & dining hall kicked ass (I believe those are the areas they wanted to use, maybe also part of the crypt and/or cathedral).

Razzer95

So this is just to give you a heads up the rest of the series, the actor who played Dumbledore in the first two movies Richard Harris sadly passed away soon after filming this movie. He was quite ill for the later parts of the film but was determined to see it through.

Oummie

Welcome back Sofie. I hope you are doing better and take it easy. Excited for your reaction to the second movie of Harry Potter and your other reactions to come.

Erik Poulsen

Hey Sofie, awesome reaction! 🙂 Just a little information about Wizards and Muggles in the Harry Potter universe, both Wizards and Muggles are human. Wizards are just humans with magic. What Hermione is is a 'muggle-born'. Muggle-borns; Traditionally while a child will inherit Magic from their magical parents, sometimes there are children who have two non-magical parents that will be born with magic. Hope that's not a spoiler. It's in the books, both Philosophers Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

Ninaofthe90s

Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the best parts of this movie. God he is sooo funny. Kenneth Branagh did a great job 😍

Alyssa Dyson

The function of a rubber duck is to make bath time lots of fun btw...didnt seem like you knew 💜🤣

gak9319

I think Dumbledore hired Lockheart to expose him as a fraud. He's also the best character in the movie😂

Enzo Reis

This second film is so nostalgic to me that I actually had my obsessive phase with the second one, even though as a film it's not as revered by the fanbase. For me the first film is magical and whimsical. This second one is much more mysterious and suspenseful and just as adventurous, it's all about bravery here. Besides, it's a more intense film and there are some very raw scenes at times.

gak9319

You're just gonna have to move past the blatant disregard for the safety of the children. It's a thing and it's gonna continue to be🤣 Minor spoiler I guess?😅

Xenon

Draco actually had a few improvised lines in this movie, that made it into the final cut. The "I didnt know you could read" line was one of them. He simply forgot his actual line and this was the first thing that came to his mind. The other scene that I remember was at the very end, when everybody was standing up to clap for Hagrid. Draco stopping Crab from standing up with the other students was improvised. All 3 were supposed to just sit there and do nothing, Crab forgot that and Draco just tried to pull him back down to save the scene. He showed a lot of talent in these movies, specially for somebody his age.

Forty

Amazing reaction, as always. I'm so glad you were able to appreciate why it was so meaningful that the entire school gave Hagrid a standing ovation at the end. Many reactors I've seen don't really get that moment, but I think it's important to remember that Hagrid's life was essentially ruined because of Riddle. Having his name cleared, even after half a century, is incredibly significant for his character. Christian Coulson (who plays young Tom Riddle in this) is brilliant. He was quite a bit older than 16 while filming this, he was already in his mid-twenties, which you can kinda tell, but the performance completely sells it nonetheless. His mannerisms and appearance perfectly embody the description of young Tom Riddle from the books. He is both vile and sinister, yet gorgeous and incredibly charismatic. I absolutely adore his performance. Fun fact: to make the Voldemort anagram work in every language, his middle name and sometimes even his surname vary across translations. For instance, in German, he is called Tom Vorlost Riddle, while in French, he becomes Tom Elvis Jedusor. Can't wait for Prisoner of Azkaban!

Ninaofthe90s

I absolutely adore Lucius Malfoy. Jason Isaacs was such a great addition to the cast. ❤

luckily ron's broken wand isn't one that chose him at ollivander's, it's a hand me down from a family member. it doesn't work as well as one that'd chosen him but it's suitable for his education and the weasleys need to save money. they make hermione much more OP in the movies- she's extremely smart in the books but she still doesn't have a full wizard education, she wouldn't be able to pull off these crazy feats. she had to do one pixie at a time in the book and she didn't destroy a speeding bludger- fred and george just wrestled them back into their holsters. she also doesn't know about wizarding culture, slang, and norms, given she was raised in the muggle world. in the book it's ron who explains what mudblood means to a confused hermione and ron who informs harry that hearing voices is taboo even in the wizarding world. it makes much more sense to me that he's the one who knows these things given his upbringing- it's a great strength of his in the trio that the movies neglect. here's how the blood stuff works- pure-blood: two magical parents and four magical grandparents half-blood: one muggle parent and one magical parent OR two magical parents who are half-blood OR two magical parents who are muggle-born OR two magical parents who are a muggle-born and a half-blood/pure-blood muggle-born (mudblood): two muggle parents but born with magic squib- two magical parents but born without magic muggle- someone with no magic and no magical parents james is a pure-blood and lily is a muggle born, which makes harry a half-blood. other pureblood families include the malfoys, the weasleys, and the longbottoms. hermione and colin creevey are muggle born. filch is a squib (it's revealed in the chamber of secrets book and the extended version of the movie but they didn't include it here) loved the reaction sophie, thank you!

Sharon

It's not mentioned in the movie, but in the book, Lockhart was only hired because no one else applied for that position. And also, in the books, Hermione doesn't know what a Mudblood is, and Ron is the one who explains it to both her and Harry.

Enzo Reis

There's a Chamber of Secrets extended version avalible on Max I think! You should re-watch it on your own. There's a few deleted scenes on this extended version.

Enzo Reis

Yes! 😃 She is from France.

Thomas Green

Muggles and their ''Safety''

Kevin Karst

The reason why the music sometimes sounds a bit like Star Wars is that the legendary John Williams was both the composer for Star Wars and the first three Harry Potter films. I'm pretty impressed that you noticed some similarities, it wasn't obvious for me at all. Also, in my head canon Ron definitely insisted on sending Errol with the release papers to Hagrid as a revenge for the spider thing. 😂

Thomas

No not a spoiler. I don't think Sopfie expects the next movies to be 100% safe for the students. So I guess she already suspects/knows it.

miah.sun

in the books, each member of the trio had their strengths and weaknesses. Hermione's is book smarts. She thrives in a school environment. However, she often lacks practical application in real life situations when under real life pressure. On the contrary, Harry (and Ron) is weak in the school environment but Harry thrives when it comes to practical application of magic - doing over theory. For example, Harry took up right away to flying. Ron's strength is his cultural knowledge of the wizard world. He has much practical knowledge that Harry and Hermione do not as they were raised in the muggle world. However, his strength is often given to Hermione in the movies. For example, in the movie Hermione is the one who explains what a mud blood is however, in the books, it is Ron. He is the one who knows the offensive history behind the world and because of it he is the one who has the visceral reaction to that world being used against Hermione. He often acts as a translator of the wizard world to Hermione and Harry in the books.

Camelot VFX

The weird thing to me about this storyline is that no one questions how a 2nd year student would be capable of petrifying anyone? Like okay if they thought the monster did it, but there was no monster sighted during any of the attacks, they just kept finding Harry there, and the debate was about whether or not he had personally attacked them. But come on, the teachers should have known there's no way a 12 year old knows a petrification spell.

Nebulous Shooter

I hate how much he gets downplayed in the movies.

Muna

(Spoiler Free) The early books noted how some portion of wizarding community originally thought that Harry may himself be a Dark wizard or have powers unknown because of his survival as a baby against Voldemort. People speculated this even though it was well-known that the Potter family were against the Dark arts so it was judgement that was misplaced just to try to give reasoning behind Harry's inexplicable escape from the darkest wizard of the age. When people discovered he was a parselmouth in the 2nd book, these rumors started up again that he is a dark wizard with unknown powers and thats why the school students started to fear him and were convinced he was the heir. Combine the fact that he seemed to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, it was hard to ignore.

Camelot VFX

Ah, well that's kind of nebulous but does make sense. They weren't sure what he was capable of, and jumped to conclusions. Thanks for the explanation!

Leuvie

Decoy Malfoy 😆

Keeley Thurman

John Williams definitely seasoned that Quiddich match with a dash of Clone Wars soundtrack.

Leuvie

In Swedish, 'I am" is 'Jag är", and ä is quite an unusual letter to have in a name, so they made the anagram into latin; "Ego sum Lord Voldemort" and gave him the name Tom Gus Mervolo Dolder. Tom Dolder for short.

SuperEllen

Totally agree, Jason Isaacs acted the hell out of Lucius Malfoy! I've been lucky enough to meet him for a picture and an autograph, and in the 2 minutes I was with him, he decided to tell me the true on set story behind the Lucius Malfoy item I brought to be signed (I'm not saying which item as it would be a spoiler for Sofie). Amazing man, amazing actor, amazing representation of the character!

Elisabeth Hutchinson

I love how intuitive you are, Sofie. It makes watching these movies with you something really special. How you predicted that the author of Tom Riddle's diary was the same person who opened the chamber at first was really impressive. 👏 Good job.

Elisabeth Hutchinson

Plus, if anyone is fiercely loyal, sometimes to a fault, in the books, it's definitely Ron.

ThisIsAnOutrage

Never realized until Sofie pointed it out how little the first movies showed Harry actually casting spells 😂 Also (sees Dobby) “Gollum??” got me

demonic-myst

6 weeks 6 weeks of the year is when harry has to go home for summer holiday their is another 7 weeks worth holiday (2 weeks xmas holiday, 2 weeks easter holiday and 3 seperate one week mid term/trimester brreaks but hogwarts only makes u go home f9r the summer holiday the other breaks are optional so he gets 7 weeks a year holiday where he can hang out at hogwarts with no classes

demonic-myst

The shop scene has more to it in exstended version draco and his dad enter the shop and sell some dark artefacts

demonic-myst

Corect distant Some children of two wizard parents or even one parent can be born without magic but they still have a dormant magic gene over generations it can come back so a family that had a ancestor 300 years ago who was a wizard could randomly have a wizard or witch born into the family

demonic-myst

Ok so basicly the ministry can detect when a child with magic comes of age so for muggle born witches and wizards somone from the school like hagrid was for hardy are sent to teach the family about magic and make sure the parents acept the kid Learning about her disadvantages hermione at a young age decided to be the best witch she could be and studies hard basicly her muggle parentage is a chip on her shoulder pushing her to work hard

demonic-myst

Salazar wasnt evil here abit context During the schools founding was the witch hunts muggles killed witches and wizards salazar believed letting muggle borns in would alow the witch hunts to find them so it was a matter of security the basilisk exists to kill witch hunters

demonic-myst

Fun fact the otion harry drinks in the hospital to regrow bones wss invented by h8s ancestor and harry gets royaties from it

Tom

1:28 Hagrid vehemently advocated for aharry because he didn't want Harry to suffer his own fate from the false accusations which cost Hagrid his wizard status.

Rhi

Shoutout to Richard Harris, he was such a great Dumbledore - RIP! And his son Jared plays all of my favourite characters these days too - such a talented family! I forgot how much i love this film, it gets better every time you watch it

J. J.

My favorite of the movies, as I think it is the most complete adaptation. And yes, young voldemort was a snack, lol. Harry doesn't hesitate to mention it multiple times in the book 😂

Huron

its really hard to watch with you syncing in when you stop it so much and go back everytime.

Musashi

Too much pausing... I can't sync this with my own copy when you pause the movie every 10 seconds. Not willing to watch the movie on a blurry 10 cm window on the top right corner of my screen

SoFieReacts

Starting from the 3rd movie the movies are in full opacity.

Musashi

Thank you! I just get frustrated with it XD

Musashi

(Just saying): It's not exactly enjoyable either, probably because it's 144p resolution. I'm still gonna watch the rest of them bc I like your reactions, but in MY opinion ALL reactors should ONLY do watch along sync videos. I mean if I'm gonna invest 5 € in your Patreon then I can surely invest 2 € or so for the movie. There's simply no reason to show it on the screen ......................................

Squeebers

I would rather she pause and talk than talk over the movie and miss something. That's more annoying when a reactor asks a question that was just answered or will be answered in the next few seconds if they weren't talking over it. Luckily, SoFie is a pro and does none of the annoying stuff.

Quetzalcoatl

A bit late, but don't see anyone else mentioning it. The reason Filch thought Harry attacked Mrs Norris, was because Harry knew Filch was a squib (someone with magical parents, but no magic themself) so Filch assumed Harry had done it out of spite, which fits in with the whole "enemies of the heir beware"

Squeebers

2:22 That is everyone's first assumption LOL 4:08 Um.... no but I can forgive you not knowing about Dobby. 14:10 I love the dad! He loves Muggles and their "artifacts" but he has a gross (in a funny way) misunderstanding of the use of them. 21:40 Jason Isaacs! LEGENDARY ACTOR! He quite literally built Lucius' character from the ground up. He helped the costumers fix the costume (and by that I mean he literally started grabbing things and redoing the entire look including the wig!) He knew this character inside and out! He is so faithful to the character in the book it's amazing! 24:17 There is a deleted scene here where Lucius and Arthur get into a scuffle. It's worth looking at if you get the chance. 27:30 It's a good time to mention that if Muggles were to go by the train or the school, they would not be able to see it. Hogwarts actually looks like ruins dangerous decrepit and such. 30:35 Not an ent. It's not able to speak or anything. It's the Womping Willow. 32:50 Me and my family quote this line so often! We love Filch! 40:00 The Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position is cursed. Terrible things happen to them or they are forced to be replaced year after year ever since Voldemort went to school at Hogwarts. 44:20 I wish people got into Positions of directing, writing and acting roles etc on pure talent nowadays. 46:30 I love Hagrid in this scene! He's so... just comforting and wholesome! This actor! Did so well! RIP Robbie Coltrane. You shaped my childhood! 51:27 There is a theory that Mrs. Norris is Mr Filch's wife. the theory is she was cursed to turn into an animal slowly over time. Also, remember that Filch is upset and saying things he doesn't mean. He just wants someone to blame and he blamed the nearest person. 1:14:09 This actress did this so well I cannot get over it! 1:15:34 Gilderoy accidentally slighting Snape by calling him his assistant. 1:19:20 Snape be like, "WHAT THE ACTUAL...." 1:25:30 - 1:25:45 OMG! I love how attentive you are! 1:26:05 Two things I wish they had done with the hat. #1 It fell down over Harry's eyes in the book. and In this scene he put the hat on to speak to it. But I guess that would've ben tricky to pull off cinematically without it looking wonky. 1:32:55 Props to the Crabbe and Goyle actors! Jamie Waylett and Josh Herdman. And props to the ADR people. 1:34:42 This improved line from Tom Felton is amazing! 1:39:00 I swear this actress did an incredible job! Shirley Henderson! 2:05:20 And you know it was serious because Hermione would NEVER rip a library book. 2:18:35 My family and I quote this line constantly! "It's an odd sort of place this, isn't it? Do you live here?" 2:19:25 This door is really cool! I am not 100% sure but it might've been practical, at least to some degree. 2:24:00 Yeah this actor SOLD this! He did an amazing job! 2:26:10 "looking like a snack" caught me off-guard! LOL! 2:28:13 You're reaction to this bit is EVERYTHING! 2:34:23 Voldemort is a "mudblood" himself and he is one of the most powerful wizards to ever live. 2:43:18 From what I understand these two lines of dialogue were improv initiated by Jason and Daniel had the perfect response in character. I love these films! 2:44:47 Harry is so clever. Also, when Voldemort gets back in movie/book 4 how mad do you think he'll be to learn that one of his most prized possessions was destroyed because of Malfoy's eagerness and scheming to try and get Dumbledore and Hagrid removed from Hogwarts? 2:49:19 Snape is mad about it, too. Haha! He wanted the exams to happen. Look at him. 2:50:38 You would think that after this, after his name is cleared, he would be allowed to go to Olivander and buy a new wand. But I think he sticks with his broken wand inside the umbrella. 2:51:30 At this point you don't know where Azkaban is or what's there. After having context, this scene is all the more powerful. Hagrid needed this good feeling to chase away what he went through in Azkaban. I absolutely love this movie. This is the one I remember rewatching the most as a kid. I loved the first one a lot. I loved the third one but I got super scared of that one for obvious reasons. But I would still watch it. But this one was IT for me. The big fight with the Basilisk. Tom Riddle. Hermione going down for the count but STILL through her cleverness was able to help them figure out what was going on. Moaning Myrtle! It's so good! There are a few changes from the books. But, seriously it holds up!

McStick

Lockhart was hired by Dumbledore to show harry how not to act when you are famous, and what happens when you let it go to your head. At the same time Dumbledore knew the position was cursed so might as well put someone bad in the position 2 birds with one stone

Sarah Harris

"Spiders and snakes - my worst nightmare" she says!! This one is not the film for you Sofia 😆
