Chandler and Monica, not only was it not planned, but once they had the idea, they were actually only supposed to have that one night in London and that was supposed to be the end of it. But then the studio audience had such a strong reaction to the reveal that they'd slept together that they decided to actually make it a story. I knew you'd get excited by seeing them kiss for the first time too. No other reactions I've seen to that episode have really been all that bothered by the kiss. Like, they've been excited for the relationship and all, but the kiss itself never seemed to be a big deal to them because things had already started between them. But I knew you'd love it and rewind to watch it again. And I'm so glad, because I feel the same way about it. Sure, not technically their first kiss. But it was their first onscreen kiss. I'm very excited for your reactions to their storyline. I feel like we all have those stories and episodes in shows that when someone is reacting to it you're just excited for them to get to it. Just because you yourself love it. And I think this was that for most of us tbh... 🤣 To be fair to Emily, I think she was just humiliated. I get the question of why she continued on through the wedding if she didn't wanna see him after, but I think it was the humiliation. Ross had already said the wrong name, and ending the wedding with not even getting married would've just added onto it for her probably. I think she just didn't wanna face it and have that awkward moment of walking away from her wedding directly after the already very awkward moment of her groom saying his exes name.

rewatching the end of s4/beginning of s5 reminds me of the beginning of s2 where at the end of s1 rachel just found out ross was in love with her & it made her realize she felt the same way. he didn’t know that though so when she wanted to confess her feelings he came back from china with julie. she was trying so hard to hide those feelings but she couldn’t anymore. so watching now knowing he’s about to get married she realizes again “i’m still in love with you” but then sees how happy he is. then he says the wrong name & it gives her hope. this time she doesn’t want to wait & decides even though he got married she needs to tell him cause it hurt waiting so long the first time. sorry this was so long lol just watching these past few episodes made me realize this comparison.

I've heard that the writers hadn't intended to get Monica and Chandler together up until this point but I do believe that Matthew and Courtney had their own little campaign going to get these two together. No one can convince me otherwise lol. Their chemistry and physicality was too strong from the beginning!

Totally agree about Emily. I think she was just too shocked, and it’s like being under a spotlight and having to answer a huge question in front of everyone you know, and I think she was just so conflicted and embarrassed, she just wanted to finish the ceremony and get out of there without any more drama or humiliation. She didn’t stop loving him, she was upset and embarrassed. After having some time to cool off and calm down, she was willing to go on their honeymoon and work it out, but obviously that didn’t happen. 😂

Man I forgot how horny Monica and Chandler were after the wedding episode, sneaking around like Spuffy. And the bathtub and kitchen table kiss? Very domestic. They can do it all. I was always pretty ambivalent to Rachel and Ross's relationship but every rewatch I find them more and more irritating, and even kind of forced on me at times in comparison to just how organic Monica and Chandler are. I just feel bad for Emily here even though she's framed as the obstacle. Being about to take Rachel on his honeymoon was some next level audacity.

I love both the kitchen kisses, the way she holds the back of his head in the first one felt so natural. Like Sofie said, as if they were already an established couple. And I always thought it was so funny how every time they kissed in front of the others they only questioned him, never her even though she was kissing him back just as willingly, lol.

The writers have said in a previous DVD commentary that they wrote episodes like The One With The Flashback to experiment, to see who had chemistry and what the fans thought of them. So, I'm pretty sure after that episode they had been wanting to do something with those two but just didn't know how and they were always a little too focused on Ross and Rachel, because at that time Ross and Rachel were the big TV couple. Matthew and Courtney always had chemistry, I'm so glad Sofie saw it and picked up on the hints, I did too.
