Rachel moving out is definitely one of the more bittersweet moments of the series. Happy for Monica & Chandler but it’s the end of what we’ve been so used to since the start. The next several episodes are some of my fave in the season!

That was an amazing reaction to two amazing episodes. I cried with you when Rachel moved out or when Joey said he will not miss Chandler's money, but him. It's really an end of an era. They are growing up, start new chapters and it is exciting, frightening, nostalgic, bittersweet at the same time.

In the first episode, I love that last scene between Rachel and Ross when they sign the divorce papers and realize how they got married in the first place. That tiny moment when Ross almost blurts out that he too loves Rachel - but cannot. And yet, Rachel sense it, everything pauses for a moment... and changes totally. From a place of anger and hurt to honesty and vulnerability. "I gotta say... I know I divorce a lot of women. Never thought I'd be divorcing you." "I know. I always thought if we got married, that'd be the one that stuck." And because of this instant change in the mood in that moment, I firmly believe that if Ross could open up and confess his feelings, Rachel would meet him right at that place. She already said she loved him a season ago, she does not want to say it again without Ross saying it first, but should Ross do it, it would change everything between them.

Aww your reaction to the scene of Rachel saying goodbye as she walks out of the apt one last time as Monica's roommate was very sweet. As a side note, they are quite critical of Chandler eh? Not just rachel in this ep but even Phoebe during S5's vegas finale ("big deal, its only Chandler"). The easy answer is the writers were finding it funny to have the gang make lots of Chandler jokes during these blocks of episodes. But from the standpoint of the characters, I don't think its because they don't respect him as a friend. I think its because Chandler is the sarcastic friend and as someone that was known as the sassy sarcastic fork tongued member of my friend group for many years, what ends up happening is your friends get sassier (and meaner in tone of jokes and replies) because of yo u. Basically my friends got annoyed w/ my sass and they subsequently matched my tone. But also Rachel was saying really hurtful things because she was offended by Monica mentioning her on again off again with Ross and she wanted to hit her low. I don't think Chandler deserves to be a punching bag or have rude comments made to put him down, but this is my rationale for why they can be so hard on him. Also 2nd side note, I never realized how much Phoebe is an agent of Choas until watching these eps with Sofie. She really did cause chaos the last few eps! What would be her alignment? Chaotic good?

Totally agree. I think Rachel actually loves Chandler (as a friend of course), they bonded over their parents divorce, their corporate jobs, we saw them talking about having lunches together regularly (at least when she worked at Bloomingdale's). So even though she tries to hurt Monica saying things about him, she does not mean them. She is hurt because she has to leave, because she is sad and because she is angry at Monica mocking her and Ross. But I loved how SoFie instantly realized that all of this is really about the girls having a really hard time to say goodbye to this chapter of their life, and being afraid of starting a new.

You mention the streaming service issues, I did notice a few scenes have been cut out here and there compared to the original run (Or the the original run on home media at least) I don't think it matters much in the next few seasons, but maybe it's good thing to mention this now because when it comes to the season 9 finale; that was a 40 minute episode, but streaming services have now cut it down to around 20 minutes instead of making it 2 episodes so a loottt of the jokes are gone. Might be good the find the 40 minute version for that one when you get to it. Just thought I'd say this early enough.

One more thing I wanted to add. Rachel's story arc from the beginning is to becoming from Daddy's rich and spoiled princess a brave and independent young woman. We are halfway at the show and she already did a lot of steps workwise. But at home, Monica still created a bit of shelter around her that was safe and comfortable. Now, to continue her journey, she has to leave this behind. It sucks, but necessary and I think Rachel is adaptable enough that at the end this will help her tremendously. As for Monica, as much as she is frightened to live with a boy, this is a new chapter for her and Chandler and it is so exciting.

I'm not crying, that's... sweat! Coming out of my eyes. Lots of it.

Great reactions Sofie, thanks for sharing your journey with us!! I cried along with you, and I watched this as it aired, so I’ve seen it a few times 😂 it really is a bittersweet moment in the series, but I’m glad they gave it an entire episode, bc it’s just to big not to.

Edo

agreed! Sofie is so emotionally intelligent!

Enzo Reis

Loved the Rachel and Ross scene at the end! Phoebe is always in the crime scene. 😂 Also, the scene where Monica sees Rachel's empty room gets me too.

Enzo Reis

Thanks for the reaction Sofie! 🥺🤍🫶🏻

Rey

The ending is preparation for the series finale

Intros often get shorter for popular sitcoms as the series progresses. At least this happened a lot in the 80's and 90's. Full House, Perfect Strangers, Family Matters, and Step by Step are just a few other examples of this.

EW

Agree that it is bittersweet, but there are fun story lines that come out of it.

Edo

LOL i just caught that when rachel said 'i was just about to go across the hall n write that on chandler' you said 'Pheo----Rachel!' Phoebe been saying too much shit about Chandler recently haha

Wendy

Aww, that was a great reaction. You getting emotional made me emotional.

Rey

LOL, series finale making people cry is not a spoiler.

Edo

What?? I had no idea they cut it down that much!

Kelly

You noted that the theme song is shorter. On the DVD version, producers cut, they said that the network increased the ads so they had to cut down the theme song. It’s definitely noticeably shorter, and I prefer the longer version.

Rey

It really isn’t. In fact, you may have spoiled it

Norbert

oh wow you got this emotional at Rachel moving out, you are going to be a MESS when the last episode hits. I guess this was good practice for fighting the tears

Allison

Retroactive big hug, Sofie 🤗
