My favourite episode in the entire Buffyverse, and I think the ending is the worst, most painful gut punch - even moreso than the reveal of Joyce's body or Jenny's death. Having Cordy back - the real Cordy - just showed how much she was missed. She really was the heart of the show and, even though I love season 5, the show instantly feels more alive because of her presence. It's heartbreaking how her character arc ended but if you had to kill her, this episode is the perfect way to send her off. It's a complete celebration of the character and all that made her great, and for long-term Cangel shippers like myself it finally gives us some (albeit tragic) closure. All of this hits different with the revelations over how Charisma was treated now being public knowledge, but I'm glad she got one more opportunity to play Cordy. She absolutely killed it in this episode.

“I get that now” may be one of the most heartbreaking phrases ever. Angel 1x9 Hero Doyle: “The good fight, yeah? You never know until you’ve been tested. I get that now!” Angel 5x12 You’re Welcome Cordelia: “Doyle pissed me off so righteously going out like that! But he knew. Knew what he had to do. And didn’t compromise. He used his last breath to make sure you’d keep fighting. I get that now!” I really love how they used the symmetry this phrase for both Doyle and Cordy.

This episode wrecked me when it first aired. Like you I was so happy to have Cordy back. And I thought she'd be back for the rest of the season, a season at the time was never announced as the final season, I don't know maybe it was, but things were different back then. Internet was still just a baby. But, the Doyle callback...What a gut punch of an episode. In conclusion, Thank you Joss Whedon for creating so much of what I love, but moreso fuck you Joss Whedon. Not for your writing but because of the piece of shit you were revealed to be.

I choose to believe Cordelia and Angel are still going to find each other down the line. In supernatural genre no end has to be the end no matter how final it's presented as tonally. Ship and let ship, but I truly do not understand how one doesn't "see" the romantic connection between Cordelia and Angel. It's possibly the most well-written slow burned mature relationship in the Buffyverse, and while chemistry is a subjective thing, the sparks seem so off the charts to me. I think some of the pushback has to be fans who refuse to see Angel as anything other than Buffy's man, and some of them haven't even fully watched Angel the Series, nor are they obligated to but... Cordelia and Angel is everything I love about a romance. I am not a "epic love at first sight" person. I can acknowledge that Buffy/Angel was one of the best written tragic pairings of that trope, but by the nature of it, I don't think Buffy and Angel ever truly knew each other the way Angel and Cordelia do. Buffy and Angel are in love with an *idea* in my humble opinion. This episode really does make it clear that Cordelia is the heart of the show. It was the perfect celebration of the program on every level.

I believe Joss Whedon found out the show was getting cancelled around Episode 14, so at the time this aired, nobody knew it would be the final season yet.

My favorite episode of Angel ever. I've seen it at least 10 times and the ending still hits me like a ton of bricks. I agree with Sofie, Cordelia is Angel's true love. I know a lot of people are fans of the Angel and Buffy relationship, but it feels like Angel and Cordelia have something much deeper; they feel like soul mates who understand each other better than anyone else. Interesting how we saw Angel, Cordelia, Lindsey, and Doyle this episode -all the characters who were in Episode 1. I could be wrong, but when Angel defeats Lindsey, the music that plays sounds like the same heroic music that was used in Season 1. Something I've always wondered: When Angel and Wes go to visit Cordelia at the hospital, we see a lifeless body in a hospital bed, but Cordelia pulls the curtains so that we never see whose body is in the bed. Given what the ending revealed, can we assume this was probably Cordelia's body in that hospital bed?

Randy Giles

Cordelia does say, "I'll be seeing you", as she leaves, so you can definitely interpret that as her waiting for Angel in the afterlife.

Hi SoFie, Been eager for you to get to this episode. For me ”Oh and you’re welcome” is right up there with “can we rest?” and “I’ll never forget…I’ll never forget” in their ability to put a spear right into my heart 💔🥺. While Charisma and Cordie both deserved better from J.W., like you I was glad they gave her character a proper send off and they got to share a real kiss. As Cordie said “We take what we get champ and we do our best with it.” 💛

I didnt realize this the 1st or even 2nd time watching this show but i realized when angel and cordelia are talking about doyle, the line where cordelia says "i get that now", that is actually Doyle's final words to angel

Eric C. Johnson

About the last part, when Angel enters the room, he says, "Cordelia?" and she answers, "Yeah, that chick's in rough shape. You think they'd give Miss One Foot in the Grave her own private room." She is answering literally while intentionally obscuring what's happening and that she IS the only patient in the room; she even wakes up from her vision in the pre-titles in the same bed. And yes, the hero music is "I'm Game," which has been used throughout AtS (and briefly Buffy when he fights Riley in the alleyway).

I had heard the reason they didn't bring Cordelia back as a regular in the final season was because Spike. Apparently they didn't have enough money to pay both James and Charisma. And Joss had to have Spike because as Joss was debating with the network as to whether they would renew Angel for season 5 or not, Joss got them to agree by promising to get Spike in the show.

Captain Hammer

I never realized this was the 100th episode. But man, what a good one for the 100th. Cordelia, Doyle, and Lindsey all remembered. And Cordy gets to go out like a bad ass.

Captain Hammer

Yeah that was actually James's theory. James said he negotiated for a huge increase in pay to play Spike on Angel. He thinks he asked for so much they had to cut somewhere else so they cut Charisma sadly. That's just his speculation in hindsight.

Randy Giles

I know bringing in Spike was pivotal in the show getting renewed, but I don't buy the second part. If the budget was an issue, they could have easily cut other cast members to free up money for Charisma. Everything I've read suggests she was let go because of the pregnancy, not James Marsters coming in.

Randy Giles

That's what I figured, but hospitals usually fit two patients per room, so there is the small possibility that this was someone Cordelia shared the room with and she was just being considerate by closing the curtains. You're right though, the placement of the bed definitely suggests it's Cordelia's body.

Adam Worthington

Oh, this episode always breaks my heart! So bittersweet. As much as I hate Cordelia dying there is no other way as she wouldn’t be anywhere else but by Angel’s side. She’s the Yin to his Yang! I love that her last act was to give him a goodbye kiss… farewell sweet Cordy! 😭

Phoenix Dawn

Love this episode but I have never been Cangel fan. Like, for me they were very platonic for over 2 seasons and all of a sudden "omg, I love you"...I never liked that. You can have deep connection and still be friends. I have friends that I have amazingly deep connection with and I am not romantically involved with them...But yeah, Season 4 killed Cordy in many more ways than one...so, this was a great send of given the circumstances. I am glad she is not part of the team this season though. Wolfram n Hart storyline would not at all work with her being there.

It wasn’t all of a sudden, it was gradual unlike Bangel
