Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

As much as we "hate" these last couple of episodes I just think they're really well done. Well written, well acted. Amy and Alexis, man... I don't know if I'd call them favourites of mine, per se, but they are just some really, really good stuff.

Be sure to check out the next intro, I know you skipped this one!

As hard as it's been losing Fred, Amy Acker does indeed slay her role as Illyria. I'm floored by her performance.

Omni

Amy Acker has owned every role I've seen her play

Phoenix Dawn

The way Wesley says "Yes" with a trembling lip when Illyria says "is it because I look like her?"...man, gets me every time!

There's A LOT of incredibly interesting stuff going on in this episode, but I just really love how this ends with Wesley agreeing to be a sort of alternate reality watcher to a murderous God(dess). It's such a cool concept for his overarching character journey!

Someone already mentioned it, but make sure to watch the opening credits for the next episode. It's the final time the credits get changed. Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof are fantastic here, but one aspect that often gets overlooked is J. August Richard's great performance. Probably his best performance on the show. It really is quite tragic how Gunn hated his old life so much, he was willing to do anything not to go back.

Lorne just being like "I can't help this time" ... he lost his bestie!!!! their relationship was really in the background but they were platonic soulmates for sure 😭😭💖💖

As much as it was heartbreaking to loose Fred, Illyria is kinda badass. 🤷🏼‍♀️💜

Fred’s death here and the title of this episode ('Shells') was foreshadowed in season 4. In the episode 4x20 ('Sacrifice') Fred and Gunn are talking about how Angel has cut himself off from his emotions while on the run from Jasmine: GUNN: “You heard Angel. Feelings don’t enter it anymore.” FRED: “That the world we’re fighting for? The right to be heartless, an uncaring shell, to be dead inside?" Then they talk about their shared guilt over killing the professor and then Fred disagrees with Angel’s approach by saying she allows herself to feel those emotions even negative ones like guilt when she tells Gunn: “well I don’t know about you, but…I’d take that over being a shell any day.”

Wisdom of the Sphynx

Yeah this one is a rough episode. The flashbacks to her leaving TX to drive to CA where she hugs her mom goodbye. Always hits me 😞.

I personally think that Lorne never read Knox. Early in the season Fred tells Knox he doesn't have to go to Lorne to be read, that she trusts him. I think maybe Lorne assumed he did a reading because he was supposed to read all the W&H employees but I really don't think he did - and he shouldn't blame himself for "missing" a sign.

Gunn was talking about Barry Allen from the TV show the flash. You won't watch that. But that's what gunn was talking about . Great show.
