Hey guys,

I want to let you know that due to copyright claims, I will have to reduce the visibility of the videos.

The episodes will be watchable but the visibility will be reduced down to 35%. This will apply on the new shows that I'm gonna start watching from now on.

As for movies and with the exception of Firefly, You're going to have to sync your own copy or you can reach out to me to share with you the same copy I was watching from.

If you intend to do this full-time/be your main source of income then you absolutely need to blur videos and remove the sound. You can have it be clear right at the start to allow people to sync but it should not be more than a minute or so at most. Do not mess around with copyrights - if the hammer comes crashing down it's essentially game over for your channel. And if you worry about losing subscribers - don't, the biggest reactor I know (Popcorn in Bed with almost 5000 members on Patreon) has blurred videos with no audio and are clearly doing just fine. At the end of the day we're here to watch YOU react, not just use you as a cheap proxy to watch movies.

In addition, by not having sound you allow us viewers to set the volume of the movie/show & the volume of your reaction independently - definitely a good thing!

It will come a day that I'm definitely gonna have to do this. I just didn't want to jump right to syncing. So I'm just like preparing my subscribes for the inevitable.

I've seen it happen on other channels too - I think smaller reactors can get away with it (they basically fly under the radar) but bigger ones (and I would definitely include you in that group) - it's risky business. It sucks but hopefully people understand.

Is it easy to follow along to reaction on your own copy watching rather its 35 or no view at all? Just curious ,I've never had to use my own copy to watch reactions. but dont mind at all as long as able to follow along still. Asking whoever knows ,thank you lol

I'd bet that reactors generate more interest in shows / movies than they cost in diverted viewership. Throwing copyright claims at you is self-defeating, shortsighted nonsense.

This is how I sync things up: - Get the real video loaded up and paused at the very start. - Start the reaction video. - Press play on the real video at the same time the reactor presses play Now to confirm you are in sync: watch for scene/shot changes in the movie. Even if the reaction video is blurred, you can usually still tell those apart. I will typically find the video that is ahead and then just tap pause on/off until it and the reaction video playback are in sync. Credits are also good as they're typically bright text that quickly fades in/out and you can use that to sync the two copies up. And then finally, when the two videos are in sync I'll fullscreen the reaction and then drag my version of the video and reduce it so that it fits over the top of the blurred video from the reaction. Every so often I'll quickly check to see if they're still in sync (this can be an issue if you're watching international movies and you & the reactor are using different versions of the movie but that's pretty rare.) Honestly I much prefer watching along with my own video because it lets me control the volume of the movie & the reaction independently, which can be useful in certain cases (think the beach landing in Saving Private Ryan for example). Some movies I also pretty much know off by heart so I don't even need the audio... but that's just me :p.

Sounds fine to me! You need to do what you need to do! though can you make sure where you place the pip video the background isn't really busy? There's another reactor i watch and they have a corner of a sofa and a skateboard and bits of stuff all piled in the corner beside it in the place where the pip goes and with high transparency it makes it a lot harder to see what's happening with the busy background behind it

100% - i feel Lost had a huge comeback online because of the react generation finding it. Never heard anyone mention it for like a decade then it started doing the rounds on reactor channels and suddenly felt like an entire generation started to take notice and pick it back up decades later. Especially old shows it keeps them alive and finds them new audiences, and new shows it generates buzz around big water cooler moments now people tend to binge watch more than watch week to week. Game of Thrones was helped massively by everyone watching RW reactions. Same happened with games and lets plays and thankfully the games industry figured out it was a good thing for them in every respect, makes me sad that TV and movies are still trailing behind on this

I have reactors I watch on youtube and those I support on Patreon. The difference is not how good the reactor is, but whether I have to sync my own copy or not. I never watch reactions of things I don't have my own copy of ... I am interested in watching reactors discover things I am a fan of.

PS. I love the way you stop and rewatch things. So much better than reactors who talk over things, and miss crucial bits of the show/film. That is very frustrating.

Thanks, this was helpful! I guess I’ll get used to it and learn. I think I’ll try doing it with next videos that have 35 percent so can practice while there’s sound , if can always have sound even if no video that would be convenient but I assume at some point will have to use own sound too. But interesting that you prefer using your own sound on video too.

Some of these series were simply too new... Like "The Last of Us" it got renewed so there will be a second season next year. While Once Upon a Time last aired five years ago. Even Buffy which is now owned by Disney doesn't seem to care about the copyright. Which is beyond odd.

I havent tried yet but I guess you can try on another device at same time as phone if it doesn't work on phone-such as tv or tablet or laptop if you can. or to try two videos at once on laptop/computer if can.

I think it’s really cool how your patreon subscribers seem to have risen up quick recently, I think it’s cause of once upon a time being very popular but that’s just a guess haha also stranger things is sure to raise as well. I assume that’s why you now have to focus on copyright issues. Anyway I hope in future you can do this full time , that would be really cool lol well only if you wanted to of course.

Sorry Sofie. Copyright is such a nuisance. Personally I tend to watch your videos when I’m on lunch break at work or when I’m cooking dinner so I won’t be able to watch along with my own copy. If that’s going to have to happen in the future then I won’t be able to watch your videos anymore so I hope that’s not for a long while. Copyright sucks! I was really looking forward to Charmed, Dollhouse and Stranger Things. I hope they aren’t too affected. 😔

Sofie is the only person I support on patreon right now because the other reactors I watch all use the watch along format and I can't do that. I am going to be really bummed when that happens. I will try to support you for as long as possible but at the moment its hard I only watch Angel and Firefly and they will be ended soon. If you do Dollhouse I would love to stick around for that but not interested in the other shows at the moment. Damn copyright!

You can download the "picture in picture" google extension and then go to the website or plateform you use to watch your shows, launch the episode, click on "picture in picture" extension it will make your episode open on a small window that you can move and adjust like you want, and then go to Sofie's reaction video and you'll have the video exactly like if it wasn't a watch along video, with your own copy of the episode placed like you want on her video (all you have to do then is sync the videos together, which won't be complicated at all). It looks complicated explained like this, but really it only takes 40 secondes max 😉

I just had a question if you don't mind,how do you make the episode to open on small window and adjust and move? I tried it yesturday and was only able to do that with sofie's reaction video because its a smaller window but not the episode to adjust and move. I had the extension installed. Thanks.

Nevermind,its working for me now,thanks. I needed to download picture to picture extension for specific platform watching on.

For anyone who may need it : download the picture in picture extension for the specific streaming service if you are watching on a streaming service. There are picture in picture extensions for all the major streaming services on google. Then you can easily watch along by moving the little picture screen as if its watch along onto the reaction screen.

Okay, so this is gonna sound complicated but don't worry it's actually super easy and quick: Step one if you don't have VLC media player to play your DVD download it (takes one minute tops) and if you already have it, put your DVD in your PC, then launch it with VLC media player. Okay, now just follow these step, and you'll be ready to watch along! 1-Click on "View" on top of the VLC page and then click "Always on top" 2-Now click Tools from the top menu and then click "Preferences" to open the settings window. Click on "video" on top of that new window and then uncheck "Window decorations". Click "save" and close that little window. 3-Now you can resize your video to the size that you need and adjust it in the corner of the screen as you please on top of Sofie's video. If the controls bother you and you wanna hide them, just click on your keyboard "Ctrl" and "H" at the same time and it will be better (make sure you click on your video window before clicking on your keyboard, so it works on your video and not on Sofie's)! Enjoy 😉
